In a water birth, some or all of labor, and sometimes the delivery itself, takes place in a tub of warm water. Many parents choose it for comfort and freedom of movement during labor.
Where can I have a water birth?
Water birth is most often offered at home and in birth centers, and some hospitals allow laboring in water. Ask any provider you are considering where they attend births and what their own experience with water birth is.
Is water birth safe for me?
That depends on your health and your pregnancy, and it is a question for your midwife or doctor. A provider experienced with water birth can walk you through how they screen for it and what their plan is if things change during labor.
