We are planning on a home birth for our first child this August. We would like to use our insurance to cover the cost of a doula, we currently have a Blue Shield HMO plan. We would like this birth to be as positive and as natural as possible with little to no intervention, but understand hospital transfers do happen and that’s perfectly ok. I would really like a doula to help guide me and encourage/empower me to believe in my body’s natural ability to give birth at home. Attending the birth will be two midwives, my husband and my mom, and possibly a doula!

Hi, this is my first pregnancy just trying to get a bit of guidance. I am planning to give birth in a hospital. I am a single mother so looking for a extra help
First-time mom planning a hospital birth at Pomona Valley Hospital and looking for a birth/postpartum doula with a practical, evidence-based approach. I would like support during pregnancy with education, preparing for labor, helping me understand my options, and creating a birth plan/preferences document. During labor, I’m looking for someone calm and supportive who can help me advocate for myself, ask questions, and help me process decisions without pressure unless medically necessary. Postpartum support is my biggest priority. I would like help with recovery, breastfeeding/pumping support, newborn guidance, emotional reassurance, and preparing to return to work as an elementary teacher. I am hoping to breastfeed/pump and would value someone knowledgeable about lactation and pumping for working moms. I am open to holistic approaches as long as they are grounded in research and evidence-based care. I am not looking for an anti-medical approach and am comfortable with hospital care and interventions when medically necessary. I would prefer someone experienced with first-time moms and familiar with Pomona Valley Hospital or the surrounding area (La Verne/Claremont/Upland/Pomona).
I plan to give birth at Scripps hospital in Encinitas. I am looking into insurance coverage for doula services but expect to pay some out of pocket obviously. My birth plan centers around flexibility. I am aiming for natural birth and utilizing different birth positions and coping skills. I've had a some trauma with needles and medical care when I lived in Haiti and got typhoid: makes me reluctant to get epidural but open if my headspace is bad. This is my first baby and I am 28 years old. Would prefer someone who is in their 30's or older. Bonus if faith-based. Looking for coaching through labor and helping with positive mindset. Struggled with depression for years so apprehensive about postpartum and curious about options. I have BLUE SHIELD Gold 80 trio HMO
