About me

Hello, My name is Alyssa Wagler and I am a birth doula supporting clients in the southeast Iowa region. I LOVE birth! I have 4 children of my own and have supported over 70 births so far. After having a doula for myself, I understood the importance of moms getting education, support, and advocacy during pregnancy and labor. That's when I trained to be a doula with Stillbirthday academy. I have since done training with Spinning Babies as well, to help further my understanding of comfort measures while also helping labor to progress. It is a truly humbling privilege and honor to support moms and dads as they transition into parenthood. Bringing new life into this world is a gift and I'd be honored to guide you.

Service introduction

I attend homebirth and hospitals. Primarily attending the Southeast Iowa regions of Burlington, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Ottumwa areas. I support unmedicated, medicated, and cesarean births. This is what parents can expect: 1. I provide a free consultation for all parents to get to know me and see if we'd be a good fit. 2. Clients should expect: - Two prenatal visits with me in your home to prepare for birth. - Personal contact info to reach out with any questions, concerns, or updates during the pregnancy. - Continuous in-person support during labor and delivery. -One postpartum visit to check-in. -and so much more! 3. Family is important! I will be sure the dad/husband/trusted-support-person is involved with all aspects and supported as well. 4. Evidence-based care is a must and will be provided all along the way. 5. I can provide acupressure as needed/desired. 6. Spinning Babies is used in labor prep and during labor. 7. We will work together to create a birth plan that is catered to your personal preferences.

Full birth doula support

Clients will receive two in-home prenatals, in-person birth support, and a postpartum visit. This package is $850 + travel. This package is ideal for parents looking to get education, have someone they know and trust stay with them during the labor process, and have a sounding board for questions through the pregnancy, labor, and postpartum process.

Prenatal education

This package provides two 3-hour prenatal visits. This will prepare you for birth and help you create your birth plan. Pricing is $500 + travel. This package is ideal for parents wanting the birth education but desire to labor on their own or only with hospital staff.

We had a wonderful experience with Alyssa, from the prenatal visits, to labor and delivery, and even postpartum support. I appreciated all that she gave us to think about in advance, including the birth plan, and also considerations for our first daughter when preparing for our 2nd. Her calm support during labor was phenomenal! I would 100% recommend her!

We absolutely LOVED having Alyssa as our doula. She was so respectful of my choices. She's extremely knowledgeable and provides information to help us make choices and feel comfortable with them. Frequently asked questions

Does a doula provide any medical services?

No. A birth doula is not trained to provide any medical services. I am, however, educated on medical and non-medical options and will give you evidence-based info for you to make a decision that is best for you and your baby.

Can we add birth support later if we only hire you for prenatal education?

Yes! When you sign the contract for prenatal education we will go over options should you choose to add birth support.

What does the consultation include?

The free consultation is to meet one another, hear your main birth goals, look over my contract, and answer questions about my doula services. This meeting is preferred to be done in person but Zoom is an option as well. The meeting lasts around 30-40min.
