The cost of a lactation consultant in Bloomington, IL can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Bloomington offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a lactation consultant in Bloomington, IL, depends on your specific insurance plan. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many health insurance plans are required to cover breastfeeding support, including lactation consulting, without cost-sharing. However, coverage details, such as the number of visits allowed or whether you must use an in-network provider, can vary by insurer. It's best to check directly with your insurance company to confirm coverage, required documentation, and any restrictions. Additionally, some local lactation consultants may help navigate insurance claims or offer sliding-scale fees if coverage isn't available.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Bloomington, IL, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

Kayla Lashay

Packages from $900 · $30/hr

Hello, my name is Kayla, and I am a full-time doula proudly serving families throughout Indiana and surrounding communities. Born and raised in Indianapolis, I am also a mother of four beautiful children who have inspired my passion for birth work and maternal support. My journey to becoming a doula was deeply personal. After experiencing trauma during three of my own births, I realized how important compassionate, informed, and empowering support truly is during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I chose to turn my pain into purpose by helping other mothers feel seen, heard, educated, and supported throughout their birthing journey. As a doula, my mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and empowering experience for every family I serve. I believe every mother deserves respectful care, emotional support, and an advocate by her side. Through my work, I strive to transform trauma into healing and blessings by giving back to the community and supporting families during one of life’s most meaningful moments.

Having kayla as my doula has truly been one of the best decisions during my pregnancy journey. She has been incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, supportive, and caring every single step of the way. During such an emotional and important time in my life, she has made me feel genuinely cared for, heard, and at peace. One thing I appreciate most is how she never tries to overshadow my wants or opinions. She always makes my choices, comfort, and birth preferences the priority while still guiding and educating me with so much patience and compassion. That balance is so important when choosing a doula, and she does it beautifully. Kayla presence alone brings reassurance, comfort, and confidence, and I truly cannot imagine going through this journey without her support. I would recommend her to any expecting mother looking for someone who will advocate for them, support them, and truly care from the heart. 💕

Hiring the right Doula was an incredibly important and necessary part of my birth story. I was terrified to give birth due to past trauma and fear of the unknown. I needed someone by my side to teach me what to expect and to be my advocate. Sarah fully prepared me for the expected and unexpected. She was my advocate, cheerleader, and friend through the entire process. I felt prepared and was able to be fully present for the birth of my son. I felt, and feel, she really cares for me. Sarah continues to check on me (4 months PP). I don't think this is a job for her, but a calling for those who need her. Hiring Sarah was the best decision I could have made. If an informed and beautiful experience is what you desire, consider Sarah.
