Hi, I’m Melanie Powell—certified doula, childbirth educator, author of From Fear to First Cry, and the founder of both Little Flower Birth Services and the non-profit Under His Wings Collective. As a mother myself, I know firsthand that bringing a child into the world is one of the most profound, transformative journeys you will ever take. But I also know it can bring up deep questions, past fears, and medical anxieties. That is why my life’s work is dedicated to walking beside women and their partners, ensuring you never have to navigate the medical landscape alone. Through Little Flower Birth Services, my practice is rooted in three core pillars: Advocacy to help your partner step into their role as your protector, Sanctuary to guard your peace with a protective "Baby Bubble," and Autonomy to honor your God-given intuition through a trauma-informed framework. Whether I'm teaching evidence-based physiological birth classes, coaching partners in our signature advocacy workshops, or offering quiet, steadfast support in the delivery room, my goal is to transform your anxieties into your greatest strengths. Beyond my private practice, my heart for community led me to establish Under His Wings Collective—a non-profit initiative dedicated to expanding access to sliding-scale and free childbirth education, alongside trauma-informed virtual doula support (such as our Virtual Bloom Package) for Medicaid-eligible, low-income, and high-anxiety mothers who deserve dedicated care regardless of circumstance. When I’m not supporting families across the DFW Metroplex, leading virtual education cohorts, or advocating through the collective, you can usually find me baking something nourishing for loved ones or cherishing quiet moments with my daughter. You deserve to enter your birth room feeling strong, informed, and deeply supported. I would be honored to walk this sacred journey with you.

What made us choose Melanie as our birth doula for our first birth experience was the fact that she was Catholic and she offered a lot in her birth package. She was extremely helpful all throughout my pregnancy, especially on the day of my delivery. She helped us map out a birth plan and she did a great job educating us. During my labor, Melanie coached me through exercises she prepped us with to deal with the contractions. After I got my epidural, I was still experiencing pain on my right side. Melanie spent hours lightly shaking the area to get my daughter to move. It really helped me deal with the pain. She also helped the nurse with getting my daughter to turn face down to prepare for birth. Melanie offered me the comfort and support I needed in the last hours of my labor. Because of her support, my husband was able to get some extra sleep so he could be present with me and available post-birth. I would strongly recommend Melanie as a doula.

Pregnancy, childbirth and new babies have been my passion since I first found out I was pregnant over 16 years ago. My birth and postpartum experiences - both wonderful and challenging - fed my spirit and inspired me to give back to other new parents. I am excited to help you and your family along your journey of parenthood in an open, non-judgmental manner. From pregnancy through birth and beyond, my support, knowledge, and experience can help you become the parents you know you can be. I would love to help ease the many transitions that a new baby can bring, help you build confidence in your abilities, and provide support for all your new family needs. I look forward to supporting you along this joyful, exciting, and amazing adventure! I am here to help YOU, expecting and new parents, to feel sure of yourselves in your roles by shining light on your own innate intelligence and that of your new baby. I am excited to teach you the basics, the truths, and the skills to confidently prepare for, enter, and beautifully navigate postpartum and new parenthood.

We hired Hilary as our Postpartum Doula and she provided us critical support, care, and counsel from day one of leaving the hospital with our newborn son. I don't know how we could have gotten through this phase without her regular day and night time visits. The breaks she provided us a few times a week were invaluable: leaving our son with someone we fully trusted to catch up on sleep or even run errands. She was also a constant ear for us with all of our new-parent questions: from our baby's health, to breastfeeding, to products. If she doesn't know the right answer, she will get you in touch with someone who does. She is fully dedicated to making sure you have the support you need and are on a good path as a new family. Hilary has a great approach to coming into your home and making everything feel smooth and easy. We are going to miss working with her, and can't recommend her business enough to other families whether it's your first kid or your fourth.

As a doula, I not only bear witness to the birth of babies, but to the birth of parents. Learn more about the principles that dictate Aila Birth Village by clicking here. Aila, pronounced I-la, means “from the strong place”. As such, I am committed to providing you with the support and resources you need to effectively build up your family. My expanded services now include antepartum support, birth support, postpartum support, childbirth education, breastfeeding education, infant sleep consultations, and even a special Back to Work planning program. I believe that you have a fundamental right to experience a beautiful birth as you define it. I recognize that this is a sacred, transformative time for you and your family, and I will treat it with authentic reverence. This means your feelings should be heard, your preferences should be honored, your reproductive rights respected, your heart protected, and your body enveloped with the love and support of your birth team. To this end, I provide you with evidence-based tools and resources that places you and your baby’s needs at the center. No matter the setting of birth - hospital, birthing center, or home birth – and no matter the type of birth – vaginal, c-section, or via surrogate - your birth can be empowering. My hope is that my support is virtuous and exemplary and this is reflected in how you feel during our time together.
