I am wanting to birth at a birthing center and they require a doula for the attendance of the birth. We are spending a lot on the birthing center so we would like someone not as expensive.

I value informed consent and would like all procedures, interventions, and newborn care options explained before decisions are made whenever possible. My goal is a low-intervention birth with freedom to move during labor, use natural comfort measures, minimal cervical checks when appropriate, delayed cord clamping, immediate skin-to-skin contact, and uninterrupted bonding time after birth. I would prefer to avoid induction solely for convenience or to speed up labor and do not want to feel pressured into a cesarean birth unless it is medically necessary. I would also like time to discuss and make informed decisions regarding newborn procedures and injections, rather than having them performed immediately after birth. Most importantly, I am looking for a calm, knowledgeable, evidence-based doula who will help me feel respected, empowered, and supported throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.

I currently have an OBGYN that does accept my medicaid. I had a c section with my daughter in 2022, and I really want to try for a vaginal birth. My OBGYN and I are not connecting as I would like and I did more research and feel better finding a mid wife or doula that I can connect with and listen to my wants and needs. I appreciate it! From my understanding, TRICARE covers up to 6 hours of antepartum and/or postpartum doula visits (which can be divided into 15-minute increments however we'd like), along with one continuous labor support visit during the birth. I also understand that, to be eligible for TRICARE coverage, doulas must be certified through one of TRICARE's approved certifying organizations (such as DONA International) and have an active National Provider Identifier (NPI) for billing. Are you certified through a TRICARE-approved organization and do you have an active NPI? If so, I'd love to learn more about your services, your availability around my October due date, what your birth support includes, and how the TRICARE billing process works. We're expecting our first child, a daughter, on November 6th, and we're currently at 25 weeks. We'll be delivering at Texas Health Harris Methodist Southwest in Fort Worth with Dr. Stacy Butler, so experience at that specific hospital is a plus. The main reason we want a doula is that I will be my wife's only support person in the room. We don't have family nearby and aren't planning to have anyone else at the birth, so we're looking for someone who can provide continuous support through a long labor and give me a chance to eat and rest without leaving my wife alone. Reliable backup coverage matters to us for the same reason. A few things that are important to us: My wife wants to keep her options open on pain management, including an epidural. We're looking for someone who will support whatever she decides in the moment rather than steering her toward or away from any particular kind of birth. We are formula feeding exclusively and have already made that decision, so we'd like a doula who is comfortable with that and won't push breastfeeding. We are not religious. We don't mind if a doula is personally religious, but we would prefer that faith, prayer, or scripture not be part of our birth experience. We're also interested in hands-on preparation. Childbirth education as part of a package is something we'd consider. Having birth doula, postpartum doula, as well as night services available from the same provider is a plus. We'd like to book within the next few weeks and are flexible on scheduling consultations, including evenings and weekends.

I would really like to give birth vaginally and am looking for someone who values modern medicine but can also help keep things as natural as possible if it is safe. I’m looking for someone who will advocate for me when things get crazy in the delivery room and who is willing to coach me through labor and help support my husband in supporting me.
