I am Joan Sherwood, founder of Peaceful Beginnings To You. My calling to become a doula was born from a personal experience. During the birth of my child, I was left alone in a hospital room without any support. My spouse and brother were sent home because I was not in active labor. My water had broken, so I was admitted, and I faced the daunting process of labor alone, in a secluded area until it was time to push. This experience, where I delivered a 9 -pound, 2-ounce baby without my loved one's present, ignited my passion to ensure that no other person would have to endure such solitude. My journey as a doula began 25 years ago when I assisted a family member through labor. Since then, I have been a source of support and guidance for family and friends, which eventually led me to pursue certification as a birth doula through DONA International. I am deeply committed to holistic birth and postpartum care, and my extensive training reflects this dedication. My education includes a Family Development Credential, studies at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the Center for Homeopathic Education, and the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. I am also a certified Calm Birth Instructor, Infant Massage Instructor Trainer, Womb Sauna Practitioner, and have received postpartum training from Indigemama, BirthMama, Traditional Postpartum Practitioner, and Birth Arts International. My approach to doula care is centered on the needs of the laboring person. I come with no preconceived notions, and I remain as fluid and flexible as possible to meet the evolving needs of each individual. In addition, to running my private doula practice, I have provided doula care to underserved communities as a doula and doula mentor for a federally funded program in Brooklyn.

Joan was my doula for both my pregnancies, one in 2014 for my now 8 year old and again during the pandemic for my 2 year old. I highly recommend Joan she provided such consistent support during both pregnancy, while birthing and postpartum. I was so fortune because Joan is just naturally resourceful and intuitive and she was right by my side every step the way. To this day I consider her such an empowering and beautiful human being and I am thankful that she was with me on my journey into motherhood -- I would choose her again and again and again!!!

Becoming a mother has shaped not only who I am—but also how I support others. I’ve experienced birth in many forms: a hospital birth with medical interventions, a hospital birth without medication, and finally, a peaceful home birth. Each one was powerful, unique, and taught me something new about strength, surrender, and support. My journey sparked a passion for supporting women during this incredibly personal and transformative time. I became a doula because I believe every mother deserves to feel seen, supported, and truly heard. My work is rooted in empathy and a deep respect for each person’s unique experience. I offer care that meets you where you are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Whether it’s helping you prepare, offering reassurance, or simply holding space, I’m here to support you in making this journey your own.

Whether you desire hands-on comfort techniques, advocacy in a hospital setting, or emotional reassurance in your home birth, Ivy Haven Birthwork is dedicated to honoring your unique path to parenthood.

Working with Ivy Haven Birthwork was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy. From the very beginning, I felt so seen, heard, and genuinely supported. This wasn’t just about information or checklists — it was about having someone walk beside me with calm, grounded presence every step of the way. Throughout my pregnancy, I always felt like I had a safe space to ask questions, process emotions, and explore my birth preferences without any judgment. Every visit left me feeling more prepared, more empowered, and more connected to my body and my baby. During labor and birth, Ivy Haven showed up with such quiet strength and intuition — anticipating what I needed before I even had to ask. Whether it was hands-on comfort, encouraging words, or just holding space, the support was everything I hoped for and more. I truly don’t know how I would have navigated it all without that presence. And postpartum… wow. Having someone check in on me — not just the baby — made all the difference. Ivy held space for my recovery, my questions, my tears, and my joy. From helping with practical tips to simply sitting and listening, I felt truly cared for in those tender first weeks. Now, with my baby girl nearly four months old, I still carry the strength and grounding I gained from my experience with Ivy. I’m endlessly grateful.

Hi, I’m Jacqueline, but you can call me Jacqui. I’m a full-spectrum doula who believes birth is both sacred and deeply human — not something to “manage,” but something to be supported with care, humor, and grounding energy. My background as an esthetician, medical assistant, and ordained minister means I show up with a calming presence, steady hands, and the ability to connect with just about anyone. I show up as both a guide and a teammate — someone who listens first, encourages often, and helps you tap into your own strength. Whether it’s breathwork at 2 a.m., a good laugh when things get intense, or quiet reassurance in the moments that matter most, I’m committed to walking alongside your family with compassion and confidence. My goal is to help you feel prepared, empowered, and never alone during one of the most transformative moments of your life. My hobbies are reading, crafting, hosting karaoke nights at local bars, helping my partner run a part-time catering business and cuddling with our Beagle-mix Emo. I look forward to meeting you!!

Working with Ashleigh was an amazing experience. She was knowledgeable on so many birth topics and took the time to review all of our options with my husband and I. Christina was amazing, and her services were worth every penny! I ended up having a Caeseran so she was not able to join us in OR- but was able to meet up with us once I got back into my L&D room from PACU. She was a passionate advocate for me, overall staff at my hospital was amazing with the exception of one RN- but Christina went to bat for me! She was supportive while pregnant and never in a hurry or rushed during our weekly calls. If I were to have a second baby in the future (I am first time mom) I would totally use Christina’s services again!

Hello! I'm KathyAnn, and for the past year, I've had the honor of serving as a Birth Doula. My extensive experience with newborns, along with being a mother myself and working in postpartum care, has truly shaped my approach. What I love most about what I do is the opportunity to advocate fiercely for my clients, provide a nurturing and safe space, and help them connect with their innate strength. If you're looking for support, I'd love to chat more about how I can help and see if we connect well.

KathyAnn helped me through the process of my delivery. I had a hard time with my first child and was so alone in the process. With my second, she was there from day one. Even late at night I would call her and she would answer. She was kind, attentive, and wonderful around. All the way up the delivery, she was there with me. Even after my baby was born, KathyAnn gave me some tips on care for when my baby boy came home with me. I would recommend her to my friends and family.

Hi! I'm Lorraine. I'm a doula and lactation counselor. I'm also the founder of Repose Postpartum, a postpartum care company that focuses exclusively on recovery, newborn care, and breastfeeding. I've worked with about 300 families throughout NJ and NYC over the past 8 years. I encourage you to think of yourself as the CEO of your home, and to bring in a doula as a postpartum consultant who will help you navigate their new normal and help you start their parenthood journey on the right foundation. That looks like: • Ensuring that your physical and mental health is prioritized, as it's the foundation for your family's unit • Translating newborn care into systems that actually support rest and recovery • Guiding you on how to better understand and respond to your baby's cues and behavior • Providing breastfeeding counseling so that you can feel more informed and supported on how they feed their baby • Educating you on the intricacies of newborn sleep, and helping to implement gentle and realistic sleep routines. I accept most benefit programs offered by employers. I'd love to learn more about how my team and I can support you during the early postpartum period.

Bringing a baby into your life can be a beautiful yet, overwhelming experience. I've been a doula for 11 years and counting, so I've been doing this long enough to know that every family is different. Because of that, I like to get to know the families I work with so that I can support them in a way that is specific to their individual needs. I do not make the decisions for parents or tell them what to do, I empower them to have the confidence in their own parental decisions with evidenced based information, care and empathy. On top of being a doula, I'm a Childbirth educator, Certified Lactation Counselor, Nutritionist, Holistic Health Coach, Certified Sports Nutrition Coach, and Personal Trainer with specialties in pelvic floor, core health, prenatal and postpartum fitness. I bring all of my skills to families to support them in the way that is specific to their needs.

I wanted to take some time for you to get to know me, the CEO and Founder of Reverence Birth. I was born and raised here in New Jersey by my wonderful Colombian parents. I was fortunate that my parents taught me Spanish and raised me with many different Colombian traditions. I also enjoy spending time with my loved ones, as well as my two beautiful cats, Cheese and Bloom. However, growing up, I was not only an only child but also battled many lifelong chronic conditions. Let’s just say, as a Latina woman, I understand how it feels when receiving care at a medical center can be daunting. This is why I embarked on the path of helping many vulnerable populations from different communities. I am well-acquainted with, and have experienced, the health disparities, inequities, and inequalities that many of you may have faced and felt. Therefore, I am using what I love to do, which is educating and supporting women and their families during pregnancy and all the way through their postpartum period. I strongly believe that all women and their families deserve to be helped, supported, heard, and respected. That's exactly what you will receive with us here at Reverence Birth. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out!" -Melanie Betancur
