Hello! I am looking for a birth doula. My ideal doula is someone who is comfortable and experienced with advocating for plus-size mothers. As a plus-size woman, I have a lifetime of experiences of my concerns being ignored or dismissed based on my weight, and I have read a lot about unnecessary birth interventions being forced on fat moms simply because of generalizations made about their weight. It would also be excellent to find a doula who can assist with lactation support after the birth. I am looking for a doula that accepts United HealthCare insurance. My plan covers up to $1,500 in doula services (I can provide additional detail about my specific coverage). I would like to stay near that amount but would be okay with supplementing additional costs out of pocket for the right fit. I will be giving birth in a hospital. This is my first pregnancy, resulting from 1.5 of fertility treatment and three IUIs. I would like to deliver vaginally if at all possible. I am okay with pain medication (i.e. Epidural) but would like to make it as far as I can without it. I would like to deliver in a position that is not flat on my back. I would like delayed cord clamping. I would like a protected golden hour with my baby on my chest and to attempt my first latch during that time.
