I had a hospital birth and had no clue what I was doing and neither did my husband. It was a rough experience to say the least. So when I got pregnant with my second baby I wanted things to be different. I did a lot of research and ended up having a home-birth. It was beautiful, I had never been so close to God. Ever since I was little I wanted to help others. I dreamed of being a nurse while helping my grandpa after countless surgeries by putting bandaid’s on him. I served in mission trips at orphanages and food banks. And then as I got older and pursued my nursing dream, I found the NICU. I immediately fell in love and knew where I belonged. Since becoming a NICU nurse, I have become a military spouse and have had 5 children of my own. My love for babies has deepened to where I am wanting to help outside the hospital walls. I am hoping to help families with the transition home - especially during the nighttime hours when it’s most difficult for some.

Hello! I’m Hannah Palmer, and I am a DONA-trained doula. I am located in Clarksburg, WV, and will be serving clients in the North Central WV and surrounding areas. I have been drawn to the miracle of birth and children for as long as I can remember. I have firsthand experience with breastfeeding my own two children, and have seen the vast benefits for myself and, most importantly, my children. When doing my own research, I discovered that the Appalachian mother has encountered some challenges, such as lack of support, limited information on the birth process, and massive gaps in the care accessible in the area. I then began to research alternative birth options and discovered the world of a trained Doula. Giving birth to a child is an amazing and life changing experience. I believe that every woman deserves a birth that is supported and honored by a group of people that include her wishes and desires during the planning period and ultimately, the birth itself. My goal is to provide you with all the compassion, guidance, and confidence throughout the entire experience. Hello, As both a mother and an experienced OB nurse I value the sacred nature of welcoming a new baby into the world. I feel as though this experience can be both rewarding and overwhelming, both exciting and terrifying, both invigorating and exhausting. However, I believe there is nothing more uplifting than embracing fellow parents during this special time. Whether it’s for the first time or the ninth, welcoming a new baby is unique and filled with physical and emotional challenges as our minds and bodies are stretched to limits beyond our imagination. I understand the demands that a family faces in the hospital as well as the transitions that take place when introducing a new addition at home. I feel that as a medical provider I am able to offer safe and supportive care in the hospital setting, but that many families need support that extends beyond the typical 2-3 days at the hospital. My goal is to offer support, encouragement, education, and ultimately to empower my families to feel confident and positive as they embark on their individual parenting journeys. I want them to have confidence and peace of mind moving forward from their postpartum experience. I value diversity and believe each family should have a support system centered around their family values and goals.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Joey, for 18 years. We have been blessed with 3 girls and 1 boy during that time. We also experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage, and the joy that our rainbow baby brought to our whole family. I have loved all things relating to birth and babies for as long as I can remember. I drew a picture when i was very little, showing me being a “baby nurse.” Having had 3 hospital induction births and 1 spontaneous natural hospital birth as well as being high risk for the majority of my pregnancies, I understand the medical side of pregnancy and birth. I also loved each of my births, for all of their similarities and differences. I never had a professional doula. For my first birth I was blessed to have my mom and an amazing nurse help me. They rubbed my back, had me change positions, breathed with me, and helped me achieve the vaginal birth I wanted. I did not have this for my other births, and I wish I had had someone there to help me focus, it would have made it easier and more relaxing. I was able to successfully breastfeed all four of my kids. I breastfed anywhere from 18 months to 3 years old, depending on the kid and their needs. I have dealt with almost all of the typical breastfeeding hurdles, including a baby that had multiple food intolerances that changed my diet drastically. I have learned from each of these circumstances and hope that I can pass along my wisdom and encouragement to other moms. As a doula I have experience with both natural birth, induction birth and c-section moms. I also have worked with NICU families and pumping moms. I also have personal experience with cloth diapering, baby wearing and co-sleeping. Over the years as I have read and researched, I believe that as women we need to be more in awe of how our bodies work and are capable of birth. Because of this, I decided to also become a childbirth instructor. I want more moms to be able to advocate for themselves and understand their bodies and the birthing process. I believe every mom, no matter the situation, can have an amazing birth.
