I am looking for a doula that can be a support system as well as an advocate for me while I am in labor. I want to feel confident, know my rights and know that someone is there to speak up for me when I may be unable to or uncertain. I plan on having a birth plan created. I do not have an estimated budget as im not sure what that would be. But I do plan to try and use my insurance if possible.

Currently seeking a doula for overall support from now up until a little after my pregnancy during the postpartum phase. I am currently five months and am seeking to deliver at Washington Hospital center.

First baby, hospital birth at Georgetown. Would like to labor naturally as long as possible but I am not totally against pain relief. Would love a doula who can support me in different positioning, hip squeezes etc and help me exercise my full agency during birth. It’s important to me to find someone who is a blend of holistic care and Western medicine. We’d also love for our doula to help us a bit after birth with postpartum and newborn care. Tri-Care East (Humana military) will cover the six hours worth of visits + one untimed visit for birth so we need someone who is a participant with them. After that our budget for postpartum/newborn support is $1,000 but we are open to discussing that further.

I’m really nervous about labor and delivery. I want an epidural and am good with medical intervention. I’m nervous that my husband won’t be calm during the birthing process. I’m looking for additional support that is affordable for labor and potentially post-partum. My husband is amazing and will be there, but my research suggests that having a doula can help to avoid unnecessary C-sections and episiotomies. I am NOT looking to do a natural birth and my research concludes that I absolutely will want an epidural, as the benefits outweigh the labor pain risks for me. That being said, I want an advocate who understands birthing. Someone who will be able to communicate with the doctors in instances where I cannot. I also want to be sure that the baby received skin to skin contact from both me and my husband. Other than that, I’d like to simply learn more about the support I’d receive as well as potentially have someone with the right touch to provide massage or comfort during this time. This is my first child and I’d like to ease my anxiety as much as possible. I’d like to understand the types of support I could get for about $1,500 but we can discuss options. We plan to give birth at Georgetown University Hospital and I am currently a Medstar patient.

During delivery - Support spontaneous pushing when appropriate. - Choose comfortable pushing positions. - Delayed cord clamping when medically appropriate. - Immediate skin-to-skin when possible. After delivery - Help initiate breastfeeding. - Keep baby with me when medically appropriate. - Support my recovery and initial newborn care.
