Did you know that a mother does not see her doctor until four to six weeks postpartum? Many health issues can arise during that period; it's comforting to know that your questions can be answered and problems addressed with a medical trained postpartum doula. I want to bring home health care back to its roots with at-home follow up care for families following birth. To have a trained medical profession in your home teaching you how to care for your newborn baby, while also caring for your entire family is a rare gift. Acupuncturists undergo four years of Eastern medical training which includes three years of Western medical training. I also happen to be a baby expert, caring for over 105 babies and being a single parent foster parent to a set of 3 month old twin baby girls. If there's one thing I know, it's the language of babies. A few examples of what I offer my families include: -Videos with helpful techniques such as putting on a nipple shield, pace bottle feeding, or multiple options for newborn carriers - Newborn care - Bottle washing, sterilizing, CDC guidelines for bottle care - Infant laundry and nursery set-up - Nighttime care - Errand running - Organizing anything Marie Kondo style - Dietary suggestions to help heal the post birth body, to address joint pain and for lactation support - Cooking healthy meals and snacks for family - Keeping mom hydrated, rested and cared for - Create a daily feeding schedule for Mom/baby that optimizes Mom's ability to rest and restore her body - Researched information on environmental and safe baby-care products and topics - In-home acupuncture treatments which aren’t extra cost, they come as a perk to me being your doula :)

Vanessa provided overnight care for my newborn for several nights while I got much needed sleep. She was patient, caring, and attentive with my son. It was invaluable to know that my son was in excellent care during such a difficult transition for our family. I couldn’t recommend Vanessa enough!

I began my career as a birth professional in 2013 as a registered nurse, specializing in Labor & Delivery. I am also a certified doula and home birth midwife. I have worked as a travel nurse in different states, which has allowed me to learn a variety of useful methods and introduce them where beneficial to my birthing moms. It has been my pleasure to work with families of diverse backgrounds, helping them welcome their new baby into the world and fulfill their best possible pregnancy & birth experience. I enjoy working with women who labor with or without epidurals assisting them with massage, positioning, and breathing techniques to achieve a calming labor experience. I have attended over 2,000 births including water birth and cesarean deliveries. I completed my training and certification as a birth and bereavement doula through both the DONA International and Stillbirthday (bereavement) programs. I have also obtained certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to assist women in their breastfeeding goals. As a Chocolate Milk Cafe facilitator I hold monthly meetings to provide Black women and their families with breastfeeding support and resources. I have received training as an Evidence Based Birth Instructor through Evidence Based Birth. Additionally, I have completed training to become a fertility and pregnancy and infant loss (PAIL) advocate. As a registered nurse I hold certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), AWOHNN Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate & Advanced), and Safe Sleep. My goal is to help educate mothers and families to be as prepared as possible for the childbirth experience and help them to adjust thereafter. I offer hands-on support, as well as help mom understand each step of the labor/birth process so she may better voice her desires to her provider (MD/CNM). I am very open and willing to answer mom/family questions and address any expressed concerns. Sharing the birthing process and miracle of life is my passion. I know that the birthing process can be very overwhelming and my focus is to help diminish any sense of fear and replace it with knowledge and empowerment. I highly recommend! Lydia is a midwife, experienced, and completely trustworthy midwife. She and her entire team do a fantastic job; they have been like my support system throughout my pregnancy and childbirth journey. I will definitely return to them in the future. My overall pregnancy birth and experience is happy and satisfied. I share my experience with my family and it has changed how they think about natural home birth. I came to Lydia at the beginning of my pregnancy and enjoyed everything about the whole process. All of the preparations we did with Lydia were important beginning to end. Having a midwife at the birth made me feel safe and more comfortable. They are experts, and you trust them and let them guide you. The midwife and doula care makes all the difference during pregnancy and childbirth. The preparation was very important for me and my baby, resulting in a peaceful and unique experience. I would undoubtedly do it again. I did placenta encapsulation and feel they helped me stay relaxed, focused and calm. Everything was excellent!

I own and operate a birthing practice in Missouri and Kansas. My birthing practice is named My Ancient Birthing to commemorate my love for my God and also to embody and recognize ancient birthing practices. I am also an activist for the fair treatment of minorities; therefore, my practice serves as a pillar in supporting this paradigm. I am an ante, intra and postpartum doula AND midwife, a fertility and birth practitioner through DONA and I specialize in small surgical circumcision(s), lactation coaching and maternal fitness. I have a plethora of accomplishments through my work in My Ancient Birthing, but among the greatest achievement was being interviewed by the Voyage Magazine on March 5, 2026. I was able to introduce my birthing practice to people who are not privy to it and be a reminder for those who were already aware. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I would like to start by saying I am extremely pleased with the work provided by Ahyashah! She was my midwife and doula. She is DONA certified which is a HUGE plus! She is very knowledgeable in this line of work. She was willing to answer any and every question that I had and if there was something she wanted to confirm, she did her research and got back to my husband and I. She is very soft spoken, sweet, kind and knowledgeable. I know I said knowledgeable already but once you hire her, you will understand why I am expressing this more than once. My husband pointed out that he appreciated how she also ensured his understanding, not leaving him out of the loop like the doctors did in our first birth. We had a water birth. Ahyashah was there every step of the way! I was delighted to have her on my team and will definitely book again, if we have another baby! Thank you so very much Ahyashah!

I am a mother of 5 and Dede (grandmother)to one darling little girl. I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am an animal lover with 2 rescue dogs and 2 rescue pigs! I love to cook vegan meals and enjoy taking traditional meal recipes and making them vegan! I have a huge heart and am very sensitive to my environment and those around me in an intuitive way. I LOVE people and am genuinely curious about everyone I meet. I have been told my whole life that I am a good listener. I also have unique perspective on life and situations in general. During stressful events, I am a pillar of strength, calm and stoic. I help those around me stay grounded. Maybe that makes me sound boring, but I assure you I am anything BUT. My sense of humor will keep you laughing (releasing oxytocin) through labor. Until you get to the part where you need quiet. I have an uncanny ability to "read the room" and blend in to the background if that's what best suits the situation. I connect and attune quickly and effortlessly to my clients. I have been a doula for about 20 years. When I was in the thick of motherhood myself, I knew that I needed a career where I could help people during life's transitions. My business took off and here we are. Over that course of time, I have served hundreds of families and have trained hundreds of doulas too!

Heidi was a wonderful doula, and ensured that I had a beautiful birth experience with my youngest son. If I could go back in time, I would have asked her to accompany me with my two older boys. One of the most valuable things she did was to guide my husband in caring for me and supporting me. I felt loved, seen, cared for and safe with her looking out for my family.
