About me

My name is Kristen. I am an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and pediatric Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with over 10 years of experience in hospitals, NICUs, community programs, early intervention, feeding therapy, WIC, and private practice. I currently spend time working in feeding/nutrition therapy for kiddos birth through 3 years old, then see clients for lactation education & support in home and virtual visits through my private practice, The Lactation Mentor. I have a strong clinical background and practice evidence-based care, but in a way that prioritizes your family’s unique needs. As a dietitian, I have had the absolute privilege of walking alongside families through every possible feeding scenario, and I believe this has shaped how I practice as a lactation consultant. I know and deeply believe that every feeding journey is unique, and there is no wrong way to feed your baby if you are given the tools and information to make informed decisions that work for your family. I have an empathetic and therapeutic counseling style, but I’m also a total goofball with a little touch of sarcasm. I never take life (or myself) too seriously, because life is too short to not be laughing! When we work together, you’ll find me making complex topics easy and fun by giving you relatable examples using a teaching style that meets you where you are. I am a fierce advocate and want you to have all the tools you need to be able to advocate for yourself. I know that, for you to be successful at this, you need to make a plan that works for you. I want to empower you to have the confidence to navigate the ups and downs of lactation even long after we’re done working together. I believe you have the right to make informed decisions in a medical system where the odds are unfortunately often stacked against you meeting your lactation goals. That’s where I come in! You’ve got this, and I’ve got you. Outside of my day to day, I am an avid reader, yogi, and artist, and enjoy exploring new coffee shops and breweries with my husband and our dog, where we live outside of Philadelphia, PA.

Service introduction

We're reimagining lactation care to provide the kind of ongoing support families actually need - from pregnancy through 16 weeks postpartum. No, your OBGYN won’t tell you how to do it or support you through it, and you certainly won’t learn everything you need to know at the hospital or from the pediatrician. But you weren’t meant to go through this season alone, and you don’t just have to “figure it out” when you take your baby home. Breastfeeding isn't solved in one appointment. That's why we provide ongoing lactation care from pregnancy through postpartum. We provide comprehensive lactation care designed for families who want an experienced lactation professional walking beside them from pregnancy through postpartum - not just teaching them before birth, but helping them navigate whatever comes next. Start with a Complimentary Prenatal Consultation to learn more!

I cannot recommend Kristen and the Lactation Mentor enough! I struggled so much with my first baby (only made it 4 months breastfeeding - so many clogged ducts/almost mastitis even with 2 local lactation specialists) and was highly recommended by a mom friend to connect with Kristen before I had my second baby. Kristen was the BEST resource and investment for our family and I cannot thank her enough. My husband and I truly believe we have a healthier baby/mom/family because she walked with me to prepare for the hardest season of motherhood postpartum. Her program gave me the tools I needed to prepare before my baby came, but her heart was what walked with me every step. She is the most genuine, passionate, human being, and I am truly honored to know her. Preparation brings peace, and Kristen prepared me to the point where I knew what to do. My goal was 6 months breastfeeding. I am now 15 months and counting breastfeeding my little one! She helped me build my confidence as a mom and became the first in my family to breastfeed (I came from a formula only family). I have a healthy baby and am much healtheir mom, and truly think she’s making a huge difference for so many mamas and babies (alongside Taylor - I was so happy they created a program and wish this was a standard for every mom!) Thank you Kristen! ❤️😭

I truly don't think I would have been able to breastfeed my baby long term if it weren't for Kristen. She helped me through early postpartum anxiety and pain with latching and nursing. She helped reassure me with every "silly" question that came along. She is a safe person that I felt comfortable sharing each emotion and moment that I felt during pregnancy and postpartum. I felt empowered through the prenatal education and nurtured during the postpartum period. As a pelvic floor therapist, The Lactation Mentor is at the top of my referral list. I emphasize to my clients that it is so important to have a team of perinatal health providers there to support you (lactation, doula, pelvic floor therapist, midwife/OB, chiro, childbirth education, bodywork). Don't hesitate to reach out to Kristen. She will support you like you're her sister. Leanne Markey, OTR/L, Imagine Pelvic Health

I saw Kristen when struggling with mastitis with my third baby and she was so helpful! She provided me with all the most recent research and guidance on treating clogged ducts and mastitis, and I ended up not needing to take the antibiotics! I wish I had started seeing her from the start of my breastfeeding journey!

I worked with Kristen as a lactation consultant both before and after having my son, and I truly can’t recommend her enough. I went into breastfeeding with specific goals. I wanted to nurse at home while also having the flexibility for my son to take bottles at daycare and Kristen helped me confidently make that happen. Her prenatal education gave me such a strong foundation, and her postpartum support was absolutely unmatched. She was always there to answer my questions, ease my concerns, and make me feel seen and validated every step of the way. What really sets Kristen apart is that her support didn’t stop at breastfeeding. She continued to be an incredible resource as we introduced solids and navigated my son’s allergies. She’s not only knowledgeable, but genuinely caring, and that made all the difference. I’m so grateful I found her, she’s been an amazing support and someone I trust completely.

Kristen was so helpful in my breastfeeding journey. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her, exclusively breastfeeding at 9 months. She helped me so much at the newborn stage not only with actual breastfeeding (latching), regulating my supply, helping me know if my baby was getting enough, and overall answering every question my postpartum brain could think of. 10000000/10 recommend!!

In summary - Kristen saved my life. After meeting with her 6 months into my failed nursing experience with my son, she offered support, safety, and reassurance to me. And made me absolutely certain to reach out to her when I got pregnant with my second. Sure enough, I had so many similar issues with my daughter, bringing back all the trauma from my first experience, and she was there through it all. Because of her, we fought through my daughter’s oral restrictions, the fact that I’m a working mom and how to successfully transition back and forth from bottle to breast all the time, and a handful of other challenges. We are about 6 months in, and THIS journey is all I ever wanted. None of it would have been possible without Kristen. She would quickly disagree and give me all the credit. But she changed my life and helped me rewrite a horrible story into a beautiful new chapter and so yes, I will always always recommended her. Her compassion, her expertise, and her clear love of what she does, are second to none.

Kristen was amazing to work with! She is so sweet, supportive, and incredibly knowledgeable. My baby likely has a lip and tongue tie and was struggling to latch well with the bottles we were using. Milk was constantly leaking from her mouth during feeds. Kristen recommended trying Dr. Brown’s bottles, and the difference has been incredible. Since making the switch, my baby’s latch has improved so much and there is little to no leaking. I’m so grateful for Kristen’s guidance and expertise.

The Prenatal TLM program was essential to my success in breastfeeding my son! Kristen was so thoughtful and gentle when sharing her knowledge. She really got me through some hard times postpartum and was there to share in the joys and successes as a cheerleader as well. Highly recommend establishing The Lactation Mentor as a member in your new baby village!!

While I am not a previous or current client, I can confidently say that with TLM you are in great hands. The love, knowledge, and enthusiasm TLM puts into prenatal education, community education, and lactation consulting is top notch. My team adores collaborating with TLM to bring greater outcomes to our shared clients.
