I plan to give birth in the midwifery unit of the MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington DC. I am looking to have as few interventions as possible and plan to birth unmedicated. I would strongly prefer a doula of Christian faith, though shared faith is not a requirement. I’m only interested in doulas with experience in a hospital setting and would prefer a doula with at least 3 years of experience. Ideally, my doula would also be able to take photographs periodically throughout labour and delivery, though I know this may not be likely. I am not interested in postpartum care.

We’re moving midway through the pregnancy to the DC region, Maryland side. I am planning to give birth at Salem Hospital. I am open to epidural, my birth plan is to deliver naturally with the hope of my delivery going as smoothly as possible.

My company offers up to $5,000 towards doula services, but I would need everything in contract and paid by the end of the year because this benefit will be ending. In order to qualify, my doula would need to meet at least one of the following requirements: - DONA or CAPPA - Demonstrated training + experience through NY and/or CA state(s) affiliation - For Doulas who don't have state association: Training and/or experience requirement with attestation of 24+ training hours, 5+ observed births My ideal birth would be un-medicated vaginal birth utilizing natural pain management techniques. I would like to have the ability to labor and birth in different positions, depending what feels right to me instinctively. This will be my first birth, so I am looking for some assurance and coaching perhaps, but cringe at the idea of a team yelling at me to push at a time that doesn’t feel quite right. I am open to it, but don’t think I will want to birth in supine position. I’d like to learn a lot more about how babies naturally move throughout the birth process, and change positions to help my baby descend. I also was told at my last ultrasound that at the moment, the placenta is touching my cervix, so it will need to move in order to have a vaginal birth. My doctors seemed fairly confident that it will move as my uterus stretches. If possible, I would like to avoid both induction and c section.

I don't know enough about this part and need an expert who can know the signs and take charge when the time comes for delivery. I want to discuss my birth plan and trust that there is an expert by my side who will ensure my wishes are respected as much as is possible, within bounds.
