The cost of a midwife in Shelton, CT can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Shelton, CT, depends on your specific insurance plan and provider. Many insurance plans, including private insurance and Medicaid, offer coverage for midwifery services, especially if the midwife is licensed and practicing within a network or at an approved facility. Coverage may also depend on whether the services are provided in a hospital, birthing center, or at home. It’s important to contact your insurance company directly to confirm the details of your coverage, including copays, deductibles, or any restrictions on midwifery care. Additionally, some midwives may offer payment plans or work with out-of-network insurance situations.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Shelton, CT, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

After struggling with severe pain during breastfeeding and hearing that discomfort was normal and to keep pushing through, I was beyond grateful when Stephanie came to my rescue. First off, Stephanie knows her stuff! She is so knowledge and passionate about sharing all she can to help with lactation. Stephanie was able to tweak my techniques, give me pointers, and boom, no more pain! With no judgement, and a kind attitude, Stephanie made it easy for me to relax and trust the process. Breastfeeding is NOT suppose to hurt! Who knew! If you're having any sort of issues with feeding or lactation, call Stephanie! Your welcome!

With Jamaican (paternal) and American (maternal) roots, I embody a rich heritage that includes Irish immigrants, Creek, Maroons, and Syria. As a BLACK Afro-Indigenous woman, my spiritual and professional journey is deeply intertwined with my membership in the Divine Sisterhood Circle, a BIPOC women-led community dedicated to creating sacred, inclusive spaces where families feel safe, seen, heard, and supported. I am also a proud member of the Traditional Community Birth Workers (TBCW), focusing on preserving ancestral wisdom and traditional birth practices without the use of legend drugs or ultrasound. My offerings include a comprehensive range of services such as emotional, physical, and spiritual support throughout the birthing process. I provide energy work, massage therapy, traditional womb care, yoni steaming, belly wrapping, herbal teas and salves, placenta rituals, hip closing ceremonies, and meal preparation. Having completed extensive training in lactation consulting, birth assistance, holistic midwifery skills, and full spectrum doula work with a concentration on reproductive justice, I am committed to empowering and healing families through culturally affirming modalities. My philosophy centers on the sacredness of birth as a transformative ritual, where each family’s unique experience is honored and supported. Hi! I'm Kaitlyn. I am a DONA Certified Birth Doula and a Rhode Island Certified Perinatal Doula experienced in working with those choosing to have a home birth or water birth, those walking through birth anxiety, and those needing strong human rights advocacy in the hospital setting. I utilize evidence-based childbirth education to teach, Spinning Babies techniques to physically support, trauma-informed care to emotionally support, and Birth Monopoly training to encourage advocacy with my clients. I take an overall holistic and natural-minded approach to care. I work with my clients throughout their pregnancy, continuously through labor and birth, and for a few weeks postpartum in the hospital, at home, and in birth centers. I also offer supportive care during the postpartum period with physical and emotional support for mother's, newborn care, cooking, light cleaning, and more. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education, and prior to becoming a Birth Doula, I spent a decade professionally teaching. My career has been spent educating and caring for children and their families, which has proven to be extremely beneficial to my birth work. It’s my desire to continue supporting and loving families as they engage in the most important moments of their lives. I birthed both of my children at home and I have a deep love and respect for home births. Through my own pregnancy and birth experiences, I found that having proper support from people you truly trust and feel safe with is absolutely essential for a satisfying birth experience. I'm eager to support you, educate you, reassure you, and help you advocate for everything you want your birth to be. It's my goal to ensure you always feel safe, heard, loved, respected, and empowered throughout your journey.

Kaitlyn has been a long time friend. We were both excited when we found out that we were both pregnant and only a day apart with our boys! This was my first pregnancy and her second. Unfortunately, we live in different states and didn’t see each other much in person. When I was 17 I lost my mom and Kaitlyn was always by my side. The same holds true, even in different states, during my pregnancy. Kaitlyn was always a text, Snapchat, or voice message away from answering any questions I would have. No question or concern was too much to ask! At 20 weeks I learned my son had a cyst in his brain that could indicate a chromosomal abnormality (at 27 weeks we found out that he would be ok after many appointments at a specialist). Kaitlyn was my first call, she kept me calm and although there were no answers she could give me that would take the worry away, it was a blessing to have someone virtually there to support me. I went into labor first and had a hospital birth, everything was beautiful for the first couple of hours and then reality hit. If only postpartum held the same excitement feeling I felt for 9 months. Kaitlyn was in labor at that time and I still felt the love and support that I had throughout my pregnancy. It wasn’t until a month or so after giving birth when she mentioned about becoming a doula and I couldn’t agree more that she would be perfect for that profession! She was doing the work of a doula, virtually, but it didn’t feel like we were 100 of miles apart. If we both were up during the night (throughout pregnancy and postpartum) we would text or Snapchat each other videos of whatever issue we were having. She had advice that I would’ve never thought of. Being that my mom passed away and this was my first pregnancy, I didn’t have that women to go to for advice, to cry to, or just to share our struggles with. Kaitlyn was that person for me, granted she is not my mom but she is someone who would give me honest advice, someone who would wipe my tears through the phone with laughter. She did all this before making it her profession. Her compassion and care make her the best choice for anyone to choose her to be their doula.

Greetings, my name is Cathleen. Born and raised in Rockland County NY. My background has been weaved in women's wellness focusing on mind-body-spirit connectedness. My style of work is intuitive & spirit-led fusing evidence based information and ancestral wisdom. I'm a full spectrum doula, breech without borders trainee, Postpartum Healing Specialist weaving ancient & indigenous healing modalities. I have a more holistic approach such as breath work, the use of essential oils, physical touch, and change of laboring positions. I support hospital and home births. I work with you to help you have the empowered birthing experience that you desire and deserve. Although, I didn't listen to the call to this path until 2020 to become certified doula, my first birth that I supported and postpartum care was provided in 2006.

Recent review

Cathleen was an extremely caring doula. I am so grateful for having had her as my doula as she was always caring for me and guiding me to balance my body, mind, and soul while preparing to welcome my child to this world. She incorporated sound body movement with soul care, which I am sure influenced my homebirth experience. My labor lasted 12 hours (start to finish), and she was the only one there at the time of the birth because my baby came so speedily that the rest of the team did not arrive in time. I’m sure my baby chose her to be there because of her grounding presence and her positive vibrations. Will definitely choose her next time, and the next, and the next.

When I first reached out to Meka about being our doula, she instantly responded with enthusiasm, tons of information and a motherly feeling of genuine care and support. I had read a few books, but didn’t really know what to expect and wanted a doula that was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and great with communication. Meka exceeded all of my expectations, and I consider her an essential component of my successful birth experience. Meka is always in touch, whether it is sharing articles, resources, videos, answering my thousands of questions, getting to know my birth preferences and helping to calm my anxiety with suggestions and offering an ear to listen. She not only supported me, but my husband, as well, by making him feel more confident as a support partner, and more prepared for what the hospital might entail. We practiced breathing routines, experimented with the peanut ball, and learned so much about pregnancy, labor and delivery. Meka was nonjudgmental, extremely patient and understanding, calm and sensitive to my fears. Meka is flexible with her communication, whether it be virtual or in person, e-mail, texting, etc. She was the first person I called when I went into labor, and was immediately on the way at 4 am when my water broke, with her adorable doula shirt, of course! Meka was a warm and comforting presence throughout my labor. After coming home from the hospital, Meka constantly stayed in touch with my husband and I, and helped me during the postpartum visit, both physically and emotionally. It was so nice to see her afterwards and I know that we will stay in touch. I absolutely recommend Meka and know she will be an amazing advocate and support for your birth experience!
