I am a first time mom and I plan to give birth at the hospital. I’m not sure about a budget. I haven’t fully constructed my birth plan, but I know for sure I want my birth and delivery as natural, low maintenance, unmedicated vaginal birth. I don’t want the umbilical cord to be cut right away, no episiotomy, I want to my placenta to come out naturally, I don’t want to push on my back, non-medical coping strategies, using my own linens, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin immediately/uninterrupted golden hour with mom first hour then dad, I and/or my husband will be present at all tests (baby will not be out of our sight), lactation consultant asap, breastfeeding immediately, birthing ball, remaining mobile, intermittent monitoring, saline locked, care clustered and DND sign, labor down, dimmed lighting, my own music, delayed bath, have my placenta come out naturally and encapsulated, do not wipe off vernix, I am having a boy so we want him to be circumcised. I would like a very well educated, knowledgeable, and experienced doula not only with birthing but assisting in birthing/delivery with a black woman. I have tricare west insurance.

I'm a first time mom, age 42. I feel that the info my mother share may be outdated and the internet is saturated with contradicting information so I'm overwhelmed. I would prefer to use my insurance if that's possible. I'd like to have a natural birth but I really don't know my options. My husband is more comfortable with spanish so that would good.

Location: Houston, TX 77077, USA
Due date or baby's birthday: August 07, 2026
I am planning a hospital birth and am looking for a birth doula who can provide emotional, physical, and informational support throughout labor and delivery. I want someone who will help me advocate for my birth plan, communicate with the medical team, and provide comfort measures during labor. My goal is to go into labor naturally and avoid Pitocin, induction, and a C-section unless they become medically necessary for the safety of me or my baby. I want a doula who will support my preferences, help me stay calm and informed, and provide continuous support throughout my labor and birth. I would prefer a certified doula with hospital birth experience who accepts Texas Medicaid or offers affordable pricing, sliding-scale fees, or payment plans, as my budget is limited.

I wouldn't mind a hospital birth, but a water birth is my choice. I have insurance with Aetna, so whatever my insurance doesn't cover is my budget...? If you don't work with insurance, ideally I'm not trying to go over 6k. I prefer a holistic and natural approach. I need someone I can contact easily that will respond withing a couple hours and not 24 hours. I prefer a midwife/doula that is a POC, has a background in ancient traditional birthing, and knows herbs better than me. I don't want Westernized typical American care where I'm just another dollar to the facility and not a patient growing a little human. Ideally, my midwife/doula is compassionate, can be funny where space allows, and is very knowledgeable and can handle emergencies if the case cause for it rather than automatically pressing for cesarean.

I plan to give birth in a hospital because even though I have a vaginal birth with my 1st I had to have a C-Section with my 2nd because of an accident I had in between them, where I had exploratory surgery and uterus reconstruction. At this time, I’m in a different state of mind, I would say a more conscious view of things and while I wish I can give birth at home I know it would be a risk for me. I don’t have a clear budget because this is my first time doing this, but I’m willing to move forward if I find the right person. My birth plan would be delaying the cordt cutting so the baby can receive complete nutrients and cells that need. Also skin to skin touch, in a peaceful environment and supported with the right people beside me that know my story know my case, and that can support me and all ways.
