What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in Tucson, AZ?

The cost of a lactation consultant in Tucson, AZ, can vary depending on the provider, location, and type of service (in-home consultations, office visits, or virtual sessions). On average, lactation consultants in the U.S. charge between $100 and $300 per session. Some insurance plans may cover the cost of lactation services, so it's worth checking with your provider. Additionally, some hospitals and community organizations offer free or low-cost lactation support programs.

The cost of a lactation consultant in Tucson, AZ can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Tucson offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a lactation consultant in Tucson, AZ, depends on your specific insurance plan and provider. Many insurance plans, under the Affordable Care Act, are required to cover breastfeeding support and counseling, which may include lactation consultant services. However, coverage details, such as the number of visits allowed and whether the consultant must be in-network, can vary. It's essential to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage, any potential out-of-pocket costs, and if pre-authorization or a referral is needed. Additionally, some lactation consultants may provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement if they are not in-network.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Tucson, AZ, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

Hi! I’m Marie. I am a Mother, Photographer, Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula, Certified Breastfeeding Counselor & Childbirth educator. My passion lies in the deep-rooted belief that there is an extreme need for birthing families to be thoroughly supported throughout their pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. After learning firsthand the immense value of having a doula, as well as a solid understanding and education of pregnancy and childbirth during my own experiences, I was inspired to help new families gain the confidence, comfort, and peace of mind that having the guidance of a doula can provide. I bring the experience of being a nanny for almost 20 years, a special education and early childhood educator in Montessori, as well as being a photographer for 20+ years. I am also trained in Positive Discipline. The skills I have gained by providing these services for others are crucial to the work I do as a doula. By working with many amazing families throughout the years, I have learned how to anticipate the needs of others and make myself available to them accordingly, which directly relates to my nurturing personality. I believe this is vital for a doula to possess. My clients rely on my peaceful, compassionate, loving, supportive nature to help them feel empowered, informed, and ready for this beautiful new journey. I currently reside in my hometown of Tucson, AZ after living in San Diego for 20 years. On my time off you can find me enjoying my time with my family, hiking, camping, working in the garden or just about anything that gets me outside and enjoying this beautiful planet we live on.

I cannot imagine my birth story without Marie. From our first meeting I knew she was a perfect fit. I had a scheduled induction for medical reasons and from the moment my induction began, she was the steady, nurturing anchor my entire family needed. Everyone tells you that Pitocin contractions are a different level of intensity, and I know for a fact I wouldn't have survived two hours of unmedicated labor without Marie right by my side. She was perfectly in sync with me—mimicking breathing techniques, providing hip squeezes, and offering the exact words of encouragement I needed to keep going. What truly makes Marie amazing however, is how she cared for my entire support system. My husband and mom both have knee issues, and my husband can get queasy, yet Marie made sure they were comfortable and involved without ever feeling pushed aside. She managed the 'roles' we had discussed prior perfectly: she empowered my husband to be my advocate and supported my mom in her role of comfort, all while keeping the peace and ensuring no one’s feelings were hurt. Even when nerves were high in the room, Marie’s calming energy was infectious. She even formed a beautiful partnership with our nurse, supporting him just as much as she supported us. Marie has a rare gift for making everyone in the room feel loved, seen, and capable. If you want a doula who is as skilled with physical support as she is with emotional intelligence and family dynamics, Marie is the one. She turned a high-intensity induction into an experience where I felt completely held and empowered.

Amanda is the brightest light and a vessel of knowledge. I had wavering feelings throughout my pregnancy of fears and doubts, but she always reinforced my ability to accomplish my birth goals. Amanda and I are friends for life because she helped me through this life changing event.

Hello My name is Delores, a certified Labor, Postpartum and Infant care doula with many years of experience in supporting families in their birthing process. Before there was a term for birth workers in this capacity, my love and compassion for comforting and supporting mothers and their newborns was a natural gift from God. I strive to make your birthing process relaxing and memorable by providing evidenced based comforting measures, breathing techniques, and unbiased care before, during and after birth. My main goals is to create a trusting, relaxing, safe space for you to feel empowered and heard while seeking to turn your special moments into meaningful memories.

I offer my highest recommendation for our night nurse and postpartum doula, Delores from Round the Clock Doulas who supported our family following the birth of our twin boys. From the very beginning, Delores provided exceptional care with a level of thoroughness, professionalism, and calm confidence that immediately put me at ease. Her attention to detail, reliability, and deep knowledge of newborn care made an enormous difference during our postpartum period. She was especially attentive and responsive to our twins specific medical and sleep related needs. Beyond her technical skill, she was kind, warm, and incredibly dependable-exactly the kind of person you hope to have caring for your children during such a vulnerable and important time. I would recommend Delores without hesitation to any family seeking a trustworthy, experienced, and compassionate night nurse or postpartum doula. Any family would be lucky to have her support.
