Amy Baker
About me
Holding a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Amy has worked specifically with infants and toddlers in the Bay Area for over 20 years as both an educator as well as Preschool Director. Her strong understanding of child and human development, in addition to her life experiences, have taught her that with each family comes a diverse and dynamic ecosystem — each with its own unique needs. As a postpartum doula, Amy offers physical support (cooking, light housekeeping, babycare, preparing sitz baths, etc.); informational support (feeding, babycare skills, context and perspective, information about products and local resources); and emotional support/encouragement for anyone in the family (including non-medical assessment of adults’ postpartum moods and experience, and care for older siblings). Amy views herself as a trusted partner who is dedicated to helping new parents discover the needs of their individual children and families, while helping to smooth the edges of everyday life with a newborn so you can enjoy this special time.

We absolutely loved having Amy's help during my postpartum period. She was so reliable, helpful, knowledgeable, and a pro. We trusted her wholeheartedly to care for our little newborn. She also was a calming presence that put us at ease from night 1. We appreciated everything she taught us and for the extra sleep she allowed us to get that first month!

Amy was such a caring and supportive presence in our lives as we navigated new parenthood with our son. She was so calming and loving with our son and was always available to answer any questions we had. We highly recommend her services!

We are so lucky to have found Amy to help us with newborn care. From the moment she walked into our home, she brought with her a calm, grounding presence that made us feel instantly at ease and felt she was trustworthy. Her deep knowledge, gentle guidance, and intuitive understanding of both baby and parent needs were truly invaluable. She was also a wonderful listener, never imposing but always offering thoughtful suggestions and advice that helped us build confidence as new parents. Her ability to soothe and care for our baby was nothing short of magical...our baby loved Amy! Whether it was helping us navigate feeding routines, gassy issues, sleep, or simply reassuring us when we needed it most, she was consistently supportive, respectful, and nurturing. Thanks to her, we felt empowered, rested, and much more prepared to care for our little one. We truly can't imagine those early weeks without her, and we recommend her wholeheartedly to any new family seeking compassionate and skilled postpartum care.

Amy is absolutely amazing! We had her for 2 weeks of last-minute night support when nights were getting really tough for us in the newborn days, and wish we could have had her for longer. Our twins were going through an uncomfortable gassy phase and she made sure they were soothed throughout the nights. Amy is super knowledgeable and willing to answer questions and share her expertise. She would always take the time to debrief at the end of each night, even if that meant staying a little longer to make sure all our questions were answered. She also brought books and bottles/wraps/shusher for us to try. We're really grateful for her support and would highly recommend her to any family in need of postpartum support!

Amy was such a wonderful support during a crucial time in our postpartum journey. She stepped in seamlessly as a backup doula when the original doula we hired had overlapping clients, and she was our guardian angel! From the start, she brought so much warmth, calm, and expertise to our home. During those intense first 10 days with our newborn son, Rye, Amy helped us navigate the witching hour with practical, compassionate strategies, and offered invaluable guidance on feeding and sleep that gave us confidence as new parents. Not only is Amy so knowledgable, but she is such a wonderful kind person. We quickly bonded, and some of my favorite memories from that time were the quiet hours overnight when I’d wake up to breastfeed Rye and end up having long, meaningful chats with Amy. In such a short time, she taught me so much about taking care of babies and about motherhood more broadly. We continued to bring her in on an ad-hoc basis in the weeks that followed, and she remained such a reassuring presence—even from afar. Amy was always just a text away and never hesitated to share thoughtful advice or check in. We’re so grateful for her care and would highly recommend her to any new family in need of postpartum support!

We’re so thankful we had Amy with us for this huge chapter of our lives. As first-time parents, she made us feel so much more confident by sending tons of helpful resources before our baby arrived and being a calm presence during the newborn days (including a stressful medical situation). She has an incredible sense for what both the baby and parents need. She's really well connected with anyone you might need through your pregnancy and postpartum journey, so you'll have a great community along with her.

Amy was a daytime doula when our son was a newborn, and we couldn’t be happier. She taught us so much, did a ton of work to help us get some rest and keep our sanity, and is just such a pleasure to have around. She has just the right smith of nudging us to the right decisions, but remaining completely open to our preferences where we had them. I wish we could keep her on forever as a nanny!

Amy is beyond amazing. She's very experienced and it shows in all the advice she gives us. As new parents, she's done more to teach us how to thrive with our baby than any classes or books could have. Some days we just need someone to look after our son while we catch up on some sleep, and we rest easy knowing he couldn't possibly be in better hands.

Having a newborn baby is one of life's most precious and challenging experiences. During those early sleep-deprived weeks, Amy was absolutely wonderful. Her calm, nurturing presence and wealth of knowledge brought our family so much peace of mind. Amy's expertise in caring for newborns is truly remarkable. She seemed to have an intuitive understanding of exactly what our baby needed, gently soothing and tending to him with the most loving touch. Just as importantly, Amy provided invaluable guidance and support to us as new parents. She taught us tips and techniques with infinite patience, boosting our confidence. Amy celebrated our successes and reassured us through the challenges. Her encouragement meant the world. Amy is more than just an outstanding night nurse - she became a friend to our family. Her warmth and positivity filled our home during those late night hours. We'll be forever grateful for the extraordinary care Amy provided our little one and for giving us the priceless gift of restorative sleep. Amy is truly one of the greats.

We had an incredible experience working with Amy for daytime post-partum support! As first-time parents, we were looking for a knowledgable expert to help educate us through the early days of our baby's life. Amy was that expert but she was also a friend and trusted partner. Prior to our baby being born, Amy made herself readily available to help us, dropping off books and sharing advice via text. During her visits, she made things so much easier, seamlessly blending into our family and helping with advice, tips and hands-on support. We loved working with Amy and wholeheartedly recommend her to any family looking for post-partum support.

Having Amy join us as a postpartum night doula was one of the best decisions we made for our family during the early weeks with our newborn son. The transition into parenthood is filled with joy, challenges, and a steep learning curve. Amy's support during this time was incredibly valuable. Amy provides far more than an extra set of hands at night: she is a wealth of knowledge on child development and parenting an infant, which she always delivers with warmth, patience and kindness. Each night in the months that Amy joined us, I was so relieved to be able to rest knowing that my son was in safe and very capable hands. Amy really felt like part of our family during her time with us and while we are capable of parenting now (thanks to her) - we miss her warm presence in our home! Amy stood out because of her commitment to not just assisting us but educating us as well. She shared valuable insights on parenting and child development, helping us navigate the various stages of our son's growth. She even brought over books related to topics we discussed as extra resources for our learning and extra helpful baby gadgets (a better snot sucker! - ha) Managing a newborn is demanding, but Amy's presence made the newborn phase much more manageable and enjoyable. She didn't just help us survive the nights; she equipped us with the tools and confidence to thrive as new parents. For those considering postpartum support, Amy is an incredible choice who exceeded our high expectations. Her professionalism, kindness, and depth of knowledge were instrumental in our early days of parenting. We are deeply grateful for her help and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Amy for her invaluable support and care.

Amy is simply amazing and a godsend for our family, she took care of our infant while we are in the middle of moving and also looked after our toddler and dog and we all just adore her so much! Amy is extremely experienced, calm and patient .. she managed to take care of our whole family in the midst of chaos and we are so appreciative and feel so lucky to have found her. Our toddler daughter still asks on a weekly basis when Amy can come back and visit her, she misses playing teacher/student with Amy.

We are very grateful to Amy for the postpartum support with our first baby. Amy became the 3rd most important person in our daughter’s life after mom and dad. She is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, our daughter immediately felt comforted and soothed in her hands. She went above and beyond offering tips and solutions that work and helping me become more calm and confident as a new mom. I have no hesitation to recommend Amy to any new family. She is awesome!

Amy worked with us as a night doula for the first 6 weeks with our newborn. Amy is AMAZING!! As a new mother, I was anxious and nervous about just about everything. Amy is incredibly professional, knowledgeable in infant/postpartum care and caring/warm!! Our entire family, but especially our baby boy were in the absolute best hands under her care. Amy took excellent care of our son Max (allowing me to get much needed rest!) and was a huge support for me in my new mom/breast-feeding journey and just a pleasure to spend time with (at all hours of the night!). Amy brings a truly perfect blend of expertise/insight, warmth/care, adaptability/flexibility. I really feel she was instrumental in setting our entire family up for success in the early days of new parenthood.

Amy is a wonderful postpartum doula! We had financial struggles after IVF and wanted a couple of the services Golden Gate Doulas provides. We couldn’t afford the night doula service which we would’ve booked had our finances been different. We had an easy time contacting GGD and having them match us with Amy for both services we wanted. I started to have very severe complications and contacted Amy to let her know what was going on and that I needed her to help my husband while I was in the hospital until they deliver my baby early. I didn’t have the baby’s room organized and I felt like I needed support when the baby comes home. Amy quickly set up a time to come help my husband set up the baby’s room while I was in the hospital. I let her know once the baby had arrived and was in the NICU that I needed breastmilk. She quickly found someone willing to donate to us and I was so very thankful. We had a very hard time going to the NICU everyday so I never scheduled the bring your baby home visit. Amy was very aware of everything we had going on and offered to just come help us in any way she could. Our baby was difficult when she came home and I didn’t know if she would do well with Amy but booked a visit anyways. Amy came over and took great care of our daughter while we got some things done. Amy is a wonderful resource and she is always willing to help and we truly appreciate her. She was very resourceful during a difficult time and we can’t thank her enough. If you are looking for a wonderful postpartum doula look no further because Amy is a sweetheart!

Amy worked with our first born starting May 2022. I was highly selective in the interview process and Amy was an absolute stand-out given her child development background, willingness to teach/support, and positive attitude. I 100% give her credit for setting me up for success in the first week. Thanks to her persistence and guidance, we surpassed birth weight by my daughter's first prenatal visit, received numerous compliments from Kaiser's lactation check-up, and have optimized operations at home to make the division of labor not just bearable, but well-greased, between my husband and I. She's also very experienced working with families of various ethnic backgrounds (and challenging family dynamics). Beyond her practical advice, her background as an early child educator is FASCINATING and I can see her magic at work as she applies what she knows to personalizing the interactions she has w/ my newborn. Also did I mention that she really cares? The first night she came over, it felt like I was welcoming an old friend to sleep over. I tell all my friends she's like my Mary Poppins.

Amy helped my husband and I with overnight and daytime care for our newborn son, from 1 month to 3 months old. We were lucky to catch her with some last-minute availability in her schedule, as we hadn't planned ahead for finding a night doula, and we were really feeling the sleep deprivation and needing some extra help. Amy took excellent care of Aiden, and during our daytime sessions she also provided us with expert advice and guidance on caring for and feeding Aiden. While we weren't breastfeeding, and thus didn't have some of the more complex issues that some families face, we still really appreciated Amy's help. Our son is doing great and continues to thrive, thanks in part to Amy's help!

When I reached out for doula support our lives were upside down we knew we were late looking for someone our twins had been in the nicu for a couple of months and we had just lost one of them and were heartbroken and exhausted. Amy, who had a pretty tight schedule already, immediately got on board and worked out a plan for us with a colleague and gave us the respite we so badly needed. Her calming soothing presence put our anxious minds at ease and we were able to get much needed rest once our baby boy came home. I will never forget those early weeks and the care and attention she gave to our family and the connections she made for us once her scheduled no longer allowed her to continue with us. We were extremely well looked after and I miss her presence in my home dearly.

We hired Amy as a sibling doula in anticipation of our second child being born and I cannot recommend her enough. As a sibling doula, Amy was on call to come be with our 3.5 year old son when our daughter was born. Our daughter ended up being born during school hours so we were grateful for Amy's flexibility in instead coming to be with our family when we brought baby home. She was such a blessing! Amy helped get every one of us comfortable and happy - from talking through emotions and ideas about new baby sister with our pre-schooler to cooking us all meals to making me a cozy place to nurse through the night and waking me for medications. Amy was a loving, calm, and confident presence in our home. She even took wonderful photos for us of baby coming home and our first day all together as a family of four. Amy is incredible!
