About me

My midwife story began with the home births of my own children. They inspired me to share the transformative experience of owning my birth, finding my own path, and becoming Me. I began my home birth midwifery journey through traditional apprenticeship, where I was more or less self taught. I embarked on a journey which took me halfway across the world to a charity birth clinic in the Philippines. Then I returned again to my mini-farm in Connecticut where I raised and home schooled my three children and ran a small community practice. Over a span of 15 years, my experiences included solo practice, busy group practice, and birth center, blending of traditional midwifery with formalized education. In 2025, I graduated from Midwives College of Utah and earned my credential as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). Currently I work in solo practice, supporting families in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and eastern Connecticut with holistic, personalized pregnancy care, home birth, postpartum and newborn care with all visits in your own home.

Holistic prenatal care delivered in the comfort of your own home means no traffic, no waiting room, and no worries about childcare.Visits average an hour so there is plenty of time to ask questions, express your needs, and build relationship with your midwife. Prenatal visits are an essential piece of preparing you and your family for a home birth, and even though they are priced individually they are not optional.

Home Birth Support with Postpartum Care

Your package includes midwife support for a home birth and 6 in home postpartum visits, and access to me anytime there are questions or concerns. I feel passionate enough about postpartum care to include these with the package so that families are not worried about the price tag if they need care.

Newborn Care

The newborn care package includes well-baby checks for the first 4 weeks postpartum. This means newborn care is delivered in home at your postpartum visit while you rest and recover. There is no need to visit the doctor's office unless a specific concern requires a consultation.

What is a midwife?

A home birth midwife is a trained health professional who provides care, support, and advice during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Home birth midwives are experts in the unique variations expressed in normal pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Midwives practice with a holistic mindset, recognizing the union of the mind, body, and spirit of the MotherBaby dyad, embracing complementary modalities along with medical tools as needed.

What are the benefits of home birth?

Home births are associated with fewer medical interventions including epidurals, episiotomies, and caesarean sections. Home births allow you to have more control over the birthing process so you can birth on your terms, with your own people, in your own space Home births can reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections Home births allow space for loved ones to be present and involved with the birth Home births utilize natural pain relief techniques including massage, water therapy, aromatherapy, and breath work Home births allow for immediate bonding and breastfeeding Home births offer in-home postpartum care for both mother and baby Home births practice delayed cord clamping, which can increase baby’s iron levels and stem cells

Is home birth safe?

Research shows that planned home births with trained midwives for low-risk pregnancies have similar outcomes to hospital births in terms of the baby’s and mother’s health with lower rates of medical interventions like C-sections. The safety of home birth depends on several factors: 1. Low-Risk Pregnancy: Home birth is generally safe when the pregnancy is uncomplicated, meaning there are no underlying health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a history of complicated births. 2. Trained Midwife: Experienced midwives are experts in Normal Birth and all its variations while also trained to predict and manage complications. 3. Access to Emergency Care: Home birth midwives outline a clear plan for transferring to a hospital if an urgent need arises. 4. Proper Equipment and Environment: Midwives bring medical supplies (oxygen, medications for emergencies, tools to monitor vital signs) and ensure the environment is clean and conducive to a safe birth. In higher-risk pregnancies or cases where complications are likely, birthing in a hospital may be safer. Talk to your midwife about your individual circumstances to see if home birth might be a fit for you.

What if something goes wrong at the birth?

With comprehensive prenatal care and regular check ups, your midwife stays in tune with the health and well being of you and your baby. As pregnancy comes close to term, a transport plan will be discussed including identification of the nearest hospitals. There will be close monitoring of you and your baby through labor so that problems can be anticipated before they become emergencies and the transport plan can be activated. Your midwife is trained and equipped to manage complications that require immediate attention while carrying out a transport plan as appropriate.

Can I have a VBAC at home?

The short answer is - yes. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis showed that rates of successful vaginal births after cesarean were statistically higher at home than at a hospital with a lower rate of interventions. There are client circumstances that improve the safety of VBAC, and these are taken into consideration. Artemis Midwifery can offer a free consultation to discuss health history and help you decide whether an at home VBAC is the right choice for you.

Does Artemis Midwifery take insurance?

While Artemis Midwifery is not in network with any insurance provider, many private insurers will offer some reimbursement for midwifery services. Initial payments are due according to a payment plan and Artemis Midwifery will provide a superbill at intervals through pregnancy and at the conclusion of care that can be submitted to your insurance. We can also connect you with a billing service that will help with determining how much reimbursement is available and, if desired, can submit your bill. Artemis Midwifery is able to take payment directly from HSA accounts.

Where do you attend home births?

I attend home births for families in Massachusetts (Worcester County and Norfolk counties including Northbridge, Uxbridge, Milford, Worcester, Hopkinton, Oxford, Franklin, Attleborough, Foxborough. Southbridge, Marlboro, Rutland and Boston area) Eastern Connecticut - the "Quiet Corner" - (including parts of Tolland County, Windham County & New London County). I cover all communities in Rhode Island.
