What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Enumclaw, WA?

In Enumclaw, WA, a midwife typically costs about $3,000 to $7,000 for full prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care for a home birth or birth center birth, while hospital-based certified nurse-midwife care may be billed through insurance and total charges can be higher before coverage; individual prenatal or postpartum visits often range from about $100 to $300 each, and out-of-pocket costs vary widely depending on the provider, birth setting, and insurance plan.

The cost of a midwife in Enumclaw, WA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Yes—often, but it depends on your plan and the type of midwife. In Washington, many insurance plans cover maternity care from licensed midwives, especially certified nurse-midwives and, in many cases, licensed midwives, but coverage can vary based on whether the provider is in-network, whether the birth is planned at a hospital, birth center, or home, and your deductible, copay, and coinsurance. Under many health plans, prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum care with a midwife are covered similarly to OB care, though home birth coverage is less consistent. If the midwife is out of network, you may have to pay more upfront and seek partial reimbursement. Nationally, families with insurance still often pay anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars out of pocket for maternity care depending on the plan, while self-pay midwife packages can range from roughly $3,000 to $9,000 or more depending on services and birth setting.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Enumclaw, WA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Melanie Guymon is a superb doula. She spent nights with our little bub for 2+months, she gave us a reprieve and support during the difficult newborn days hard. We had a colicky baby and Melanie not only helped us advocate to our doctors that our baby might have reflux, but she also gave us superb tips on how to help ease her discomfort at night and during the day.  During her time with us Melanie also helped us prepare our baby to move out of the swaddle, and due to her tips, our baby seamlessly transitioned from her Snoo + bassinet and into her crib and a sleep sack. She continued to support us with sleep coaching as well, helping us with our babies sleep schedule, which has allowed our baby to sleep better than all of our other baby friends in a similar age range. We had Melanie start with us around the 6 week mark due to our postpartum schedule, and she was with us until just under 4 months. We could not have done this journey without her.

HI I’m Vanessa, Bronx-born, now based in WA, and I’m passionate about supporting, educating, and empowering families through one of the most important moments of their lives: birth. As an Afro-Latina birth doula and spiritual healer, I believe birth deserves to be treated with care, respect, advocacy, and real support; not fear or pressure. I completed my Birth Doula Workshop Training through the Simkin Center at Bastyr University in July 2023, where I gained the hands-on training and knowledge to support families through pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care. My approach is equal parts nurturing and no-nonsense. I’m here to make sure you feel informed, supported, and heard every step of the way. Whether that means helping you navigate the hospital system, offering emotional support during labor, providing comfort measures, or simply reminding you that your voice matters. I’m in your corner. Always. I believe birth is sacred, powerful, and deeply personal. Every parent deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered while bringing life into this world. My role is to hold space for you, advocate for you when needed, and help you move through this experience with confidence, strength, and peace of mind. At the end of the day, I bring both heart and real-life energy into this work. I’m not just here to “look supportive” in the background. I’m here to support you for real. We’re going to get through this together.

My experience with Bridgette was fantastic. My main reason for using a doula was I wanted someone in the birth room to be a fierce advocate while I was medicated and in pain and unable to advocate for myself. She was that and so much more. I had to push for 4 hours to get my little one out after already being in labor for 18 hours. The doctor said I was close to needing the vacuum to get her out and I credit Bridgette's knowledge, encouragement of frequent position changes while pushing and encouragement to keep hydrated and nourished with clear liquids to why I was able to get my little one out without the vacuum. Another thing that was a great help was giving my overwhelmed partner guidance on the best ways of helping me and keeping him calm and involved in a stressful situation. In addition to that she got the BEST pictures of the delivery while respecting the fact I didn't want any from the angle you could see my more intimate areas. I'll cherish those pictures forever. My birth was a beautiful wonderful experience. I have to credit part of it to luck but the majority of it to Bridgette.

Neha Chinchanikar

Hi there! I am Neha, a birth and postpartum doula based in Sammamish, WA. My path to becoming a doula was shaped by my own births and medical experiences at Northwest Hospital, Swedish Issaquah, and Virginia Mason. I know the power of a doula because I lived it twice, whose presence completely transformed my experience. She was the anchor that kept me grounded, providing the safety I needed to trust my body. I know that even the most empowered birth can be followed by a challenging recovery. My own postpartum transitions were marked by the reality of Postpartum Anxiety (PPA), a difficult breastfeeding journey, and a 5 finger diastasis recti that required patience and dedicated healing. These challenges were humbling, but they were also my greatest teachers. My Commitment to You: Full-Circle Care: Dedicated support throughout your pregnancy, labor and postpartum check-ins as you settle into your new life at home. Cultural Heart: A deep respect for your family's traditions and a commitment to honoring them from pregnancy through postpartum. Advocate and Empower: Empower you with resources and advocate for your choices in the birthing room.

Neha was a great birth doula. I wouldn't have been able to labor at home without her. She used many methods to help me cope with my pain. She was there from when I just had some cramps. When I texted her my symptoms, she quickly arrived at our home, helped time the contractions, poured ice over my body to distract me from the pain, used essential oils, and help me use the TENS machine. She helped my partner support me by suggesting position changes, feeding, and watering me. She gave me a list of aftercare items that have been very important for my recovery. All I desired for my birth was a quick labor and vaginal delivery, and Neha was essential in making that possible. I am very thankful to her, I wish everyone had someone like Neha to support them during their births.
