Hi, Looking for a doula to help me prepare for childbirth and be present at the birth - hoping for a medicated vagina birth in the hospital (Jersey City Medical center). This is my first child. My husband and I have no family in the country (we’re British from the UK) and so extra support is needed. Would also like support after during the postpartum stage. My name is Riley Burchell, and I am due to give birth to my first child, a boy, in late May of this year. My husband, Justin and I are planning to do a hospital birth at Jersey City Medical Center, but as first time parents and with no close family in the immediate area, we are interested in engaging a Doula or birthing coach for services to be present during the birth, provide advocacy, and assist in labor, coaching, etc. We are planning for an epidural and vaginal birth, but would like to discuss with someone experienced options regarding epidural timing, gravity techniques during labor, and general best practices that may or may not align with protocol at the hospital. Aside from the epidural, we hope to have a birth that is as natural as possible/with the least medical intervention as possible. Beyond that, we haven’t really thought of much and are not really sure where to start as it relates to other aspects of the birth plan! We don’t really have a budget in mind but heard that 1500 to 3000 was the norm for hospital birthing services.

Starting to try to get pregnant! I would like a low intervention birth(I think) and help getting sleep post birth. I will either give birth update in Hudson or in nyc.

We are considering a Doula since this is our first baby - maybe more to help my husband be helpful and not freeze/panic, but more interested in a night nanny for the first two weeks after birth. We plan to deliver at NYP Lower Manhattan. I’d like to stay mobile for as long as possible but planning on a low dose epidural. We would like to breast or combo feed but understand that depends on the baby. We are cost conscious, but still establishing our budget.
