Hi , I’m Marissa. I’m 25 years old and I’m due October 24th 2026. My husband and I are having a baby girl. I am interested having a doula through my Medicaid Insurance. I just really need the basics of just an extra advocate to be there in the hospital. I think it’s the smartest decision to have someone else besides my husband advocating for me if hospital gives me push back. I am planning to do an unmedicated birth , with free moving and switching positions. I believe if you are stressed and only allowed to be just on your back it doesn’t promote a smooth delivery. I would like freedom of movement during labor and want to use different positions, breathing techniques, massage, counter-pressure, hydrotherapy/water labor, and other non-medication comfort measures. I want a calm, supportive environment where my preferences are respected while still having immediate access to medical care if complications arise. I am looking for a doula who will provide continuous emotional and physical support throughout labor, help me advocate for my birth preferences, explain options when appropriate, and work collaboratively and respectfully with my midwife, nurses, and medical team. I also want my partner to be actively involved and would like the doula to help guide and support my partner during labor rather than replace their role. I plan to give birth at Women and infants. I think they are planning on inducing me because I am considered higher risk. We are a couple in a difficult situation. Ting (20 years old and 19 weeks along) lives in Middletown CT and has one more year before finishing her Bachelor's degree at Wesleyan University. She is working on this final year while being pregnant. She will be giving birth during her last semester, and probably right around the time of her thesis project. Dan (36 years old) has just accepted a two year contract teaching theater in Myanmar, and has been there to working this position since late July. Because of this, he is only able to provide financial assistance and emotional support from afar until December, when he will return to assist with the birth. Ting and Dan's relationship is strong and stable, and assuming the plan moves forward as described, their financial base will also be reasonable. We would likely have a support budget of up to 1,000 per month. This is our first pregnancy, and we're excited to welcome our baby to the world, but we hope to find the support of an experienced birth doula who can help us through the journey. We are enrolled to give birth at Connecticut Childbirth and Women's Center in Danbury. Although Ting has just begun her new semester at Wesleyan, she is having a pretty difficult time managing the physical changes and a continued and persistent morning sickness (more like all day everyday sickness). Ting is insured through Wellfleet (Cigna), so ideally we will find someone licensed through them to help, but we understand that doula care is often out of pocket.e
