I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Joey, for 18 years. We have been blessed with 3 girls and 1 boy during that time. We also experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage, and the joy that our rainbow baby brought to our whole family. I have loved all things relating to birth and babies for as long as I can remember. I drew a picture when i was very little, showing me being a “baby nurse.” Having had 3 hospital induction births and 1 spontaneous natural hospital birth as well as being high risk for the majority of my pregnancies, I understand the medical side of pregnancy and birth. I also loved each of my births, for all of their similarities and differences. I never had a professional doula. For my first birth I was blessed to have my mom and an amazing nurse help me. They rubbed my back, had me change positions, breathed with me, and helped me achieve the vaginal birth I wanted. I did not have this for my other births, and I wish I had had someone there to help me focus, it would have made it easier and more relaxing. I was able to successfully breastfeed all four of my kids. I breastfed anywhere from 18 months to 3 years old, depending on the kid and their needs. I have dealt with almost all of the typical breastfeeding hurdles, including a baby that had multiple food intolerances that changed my diet drastically. I have learned from each of these circumstances and hope that I can pass along my wisdom and encouragement to other moms. As a doula I have experience with both natural birth, induction birth and c-section moms. I also have worked with NICU families and pumping moms. I also have personal experience with cloth diapering, baby wearing and co-sleeping. Over the years as I have read and researched, I believe that as women we need to be more in awe of how our bodies work and are capable of birth. Because of this, I decided to also become a childbirth instructor. I want more moms to be able to advocate for themselves and understand their bodies and the birthing process. I believe every mom, no matter the situation, can have an amazing birth.

I am very clean and calm. as well as a very good communicator from all my years in the hospital. I value peace and harmony and hold the family in the highest esteem. As your doula, I’m your non-medical teammate from bump to baby. I bring a DACM background, midwifery training, and deep somatic skills to offer steady, practical support—not needles. Prenatal: We clarify your birth values, map options, and rehearse pain-coping (breath, movement, vocalization). I coach your partner in acupressure, counterpressure, positioning, and other comfort measures (such as back pressure, heat/cold, and the use of a birth ball) so they feel confident and helpful. Labor & Birth: I create a calm field: rhythmic touch, position changes for progress, temperature/lighting tweaks, hydration cues, and clear communication with your team. I help you stay grounded, heard, and in choice. Postpartum: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)- informed recovery—warming meals, gentle herbal teas/compresses, rest planning, and somatic down-regulation—to support hormones, bleeding, and mood in the early weeks. What I don’t do: clinical tasks, medical advice, or acupuncture at the birth. What I do exceptionally well: nervous system steadiness, pain-coping support, and partner coaching so your birth feels collaborative, supported, and yours.

Katie Mayeux is a skilled midwifery apprentice, birth and postpartum doula, folk herbalist, and internationally recognized yoga teacher with nearly two decades of experience in women’s wellness work. She began her midwifery studies in a small village in Guatemala, apprenticing with a traditional midwife and Mayan Ajq’ij (spiritual elder). It was here that she began to see birth as a rite of passage, a spiritual initiation and a healing pathway for a lineage to purify and rewrite the script. She subsequently graduated from the School of the Sacred Wild’s yearlong herbalism apprenticeship and has more recently gained clinical midwifery experience as an advanced student through the Maternidad La Luz Midwifery Immersion Program, during which she worked at a high-volume birth center on the US/Mexico border. Katie spent fifteen years as a yoga teacher, which gave her deep insight into the body, breath, and the power of movement. She now uses that training to support pregnant families, helping them find comfort, strength, and alignment throughout the childbearing year. She teaches a prenatal yoga class in El Paso and is currently completing her certification as a Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner. She has attended over 100 births and currently resides in WNC.
