What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Kent, WA?

The cost of hiring a midwife in Kent, WA, can vary depending on the services provided, the midwife's experience, and whether you are paying out-of-pocket or through insurance. On average, midwifery services in the area may range from $3,000 to $6,000 for prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. Some midwives offer payment plans or sliding scale fees. If you have insurance, some or all of the costs may be covered. It’s best to contact local midwifery practices directly for specific pricing and to confirm what is included in their services.

The cost of a midwife in Kent, WA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance will cover the cost of a midwife in Kent, WA, depends on your specific insurance plan and the midwife's credentials. Many insurance plans, including Medicaid, often cover midwifery services when provided by licensed midwives or certified nurse-midwives, especially for prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care. However, coverage may vary based on the midwife's network status, location of the birth (e.g., hospital, birth center, or home), and the services provided. It’s important to review your insurance policy and contact your provider to confirm coverage details, including copays, deductibles, and any required pre-authorization.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Kent, WA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

My experience with Bridgette was fantastic. My main reason for using a doula was I wanted someone in the birth room to be a fierce advocate while I was medicated and in pain and unable to advocate for myself. She was that and so much more. I had to push for 4 hours to get my little one out after already being in labor for 18 hours. The doctor said I was close to needing the vacuum to get her out and I credit Bridgette's knowledge, encouragement of frequent position changes while pushing and encouragement to keep hydrated and nourished with clear liquids to why I was able to get my little one out without the vacuum. Another thing that was a great help was giving my overwhelmed partner guidance on the best ways of helping me and keeping him calm and involved in a stressful situation. In addition to that she got the BEST pictures of the delivery while respecting the fact I didn't want any from the angle you could see my more intimate areas. I'll cherish those pictures forever. My birth was a beautiful wonderful experience. I have to credit part of it to luck but the majority of it to Bridgette.

HI I’m Vanessa, Bronx-born, now based in WA, and I’m passionate about supporting, educating, and empowering families through one of the most important moments of their lives: birth. As an Afro-Latina birth doula and spiritual healer, I believe birth deserves to be treated with care, respect, advocacy, and real support; not fear or pressure. I completed my Birth Doula Workshop Training through the Simkin Center at Bastyr University in July 2023, where I gained the hands-on training and knowledge to support families through pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care. My approach is equal parts nurturing and no-nonsense. I’m here to make sure you feel informed, supported, and heard every step of the way. Whether that means helping you navigate the hospital system, offering emotional support during labor, providing comfort measures, or simply reminding you that your voice matters. I’m in your corner. Always. I believe birth is sacred, powerful, and deeply personal. Every parent deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered while bringing life into this world. My role is to hold space for you, advocate for you when needed, and help you move through this experience with confidence, strength, and peace of mind. At the end of the day, I bring both heart and real-life energy into this work. I’m not just here to “look supportive” in the background. I’m here to support you for real. We’re going to get through this together.

Hi! I’m a birth doula, childbirth educator, and lactation counselor with a background in osteopathic medicine and a deep passion for perinatal support. During medical school, I saw how the way we approach and nurture pregnancy and birth can shape early family experience, creating lasting ripple effects. In addition to birth work, I lead parent support groups through PEPS and am a mom of two teens. I understand how unpredictable and transformative the journey into parenthood can be, and my role is to help you feel grounded in the moment and ready for what comes next. Every parent brings their own values and lived experiences—sometimes joyful, always complex—and I offer steady support and advocacy tailored to your unique path.

Working with Jen was one of the best decisions I made for my birth. From the start, she brought a calm, confident, and grounding presence that felt so reassuring. She took the time to understand not just what my birth plan was, but why it mattered to me (which I think made all the difference when things didn’t go exactly as I originally hoped). Throughout pregnancy, she stayed in close contact and was always available when I felt worried or confused. Her guidance through the confusing days of pre/early labor and her arrival as soon as we needed more support made me feel really cared for. During labor, Jen really helped me cope with contractions and stay calm in between. She helped me get into a good flow and pulled many helpful things out of her toolbox (both metaphorically and literally) without disrupting my rhythm. Hospitals make me uneasy, but she helped me stay focused no matter what was going on around me. She kept me grounded when things got intense and I doubted myself. Jen interacted effortlessly with the medical team and brought up helpful questions I wouldn’t have known to ask (monitoring, IV placement, positioning especially during pushing). Between preparation during prenatal meetings and Jen’s encouragement and advocacy during my birth, I was able to stay confident and really be in the moment when my baby arrived. I can’t imagine going through pregnancy and birth without her.

I am eternally grateful to have connected with Keli during the most difficult time of our lives. She helped my husband and I navigate many stages of grief with such compassion, tenderness and knowledge. Support was always tailored to our sensibilities and evolving needs. Her calm, radiant energy offered us a truly safe space to share, be heard, and process our grief. Keli’s services filled a major gap in bereavement care that my therapist or doctors were not equipped or designed to address. I would strongly recommend her to anyone going through the unimaginable.
