About me

Hi, I’m Kortney! Growing up, I was afraid of birth. When I became pregnant with my first, birth became inevitable. Navigating pregnancy and birth preparation was overwhelming and never ending. I took a childbirth class and it was like have a tour guide to help me navigate on my journey. I became passionate about doing this for others as well. Luminary Birth provides comprehensive childbirth education to shine a light on your power from within and from those who came before you. To empower birthing people to make informed decisions for themselves and their babies throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. ​ Our mission is to provide a safe, sacred space where all people can feel welcome and open while we pull back the curtain on birth and explore what is happening to the human body, what our options are, and how we can find support for all that is to come.

Service introduction

I provide comprehensive childbirth education courses that informs families of all their options in birth. Preparing and empowering them for make decisions throughout their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys. The courses are activity based to keep you engaged and participating throughout leading to better retention and comprehension.

Packages
Group Birth Class
This four-part series is a comprehensive, evidence-based childbirth preparation course with various activities, including the birthing person and the birth partner. All course materials will be provided. Week One -Understanding Birth: Physiology of Birth, how the pelvis works, positioning, hormones, their role, the importance of relaxation, needs during Birth, and how to communicate them with your partner. Week Two - Birth Tool Kit: Fear & tension, breathing techniques, visualization, positioning, massage, pain relief options, what if... scenarios, birth rehearsal. Week Three- Making Decisions: Who makes the choices, how to make decisions, common interventions and their pros and cons, touch, action plans, finding a provider that aligns with you, and birth plans. Week Four - Lactation and Parenting: How lactation works, benefits of breastfeeding, how to know if baby is getting enough, positioning, how to optimize healing, postpartum mood disorders, primary infant care, postpartum planning. The lessons are activity and conversation-based to increase the ability to learn, comprehend, and retain the materials presented. The course material above is only partial of all that will be covered in class.
