Hi! I'm Jen. I am passionate about birth! I have been a Certified Birth Doula for 11 years, and a labor and delivery registered nurse for 2 years. I have seen firsthand how important education is in the birthing space, and am also an Evidence Based Birth Instructor. Education, Self advocacy and creating a good birth team positively impacts outcomes in EVERY situation. Nikita Johnson is a graduate of The National College of Midwifery and is currently preparing to sit for her Midwifery Certification Exam in Spring 2025. She has received hands-on training under the direct supervision of Certified Nurse Midwife Bayla Berkowitz at a homebirth midwifery practice in Pikesville, MD. Nikita has also studied with respected midwives Monika Karaosman at Althea Midwifery in Berlin, MD, and Maureen McIver in Westminster, MD. Nikita Johnson brings over five years of homebirth experience, including three years as a Homebirth Assistant and Student Midwife. Prior to this, she spent six years as a Certified Obstetrics Surgical Technologist, gaining extensive hospital-based labor and delivery experience before retiring from that role. Since 2019, she has been a highly regarded birth rights doula in the DMV area, known for her assertive advocacy and commitment to helping clients navigate the complexities of the Western healthcare system. Nikita is dedicated to empowering her patients to achieve their desired birth experiences while ensuring safety and informed decision-making through evidence-based care. Lauren is a trained postpartum doula certifying with CAPPA and holds a master's degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she researched perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infant feeding, equity & doula care. She also co-chairs the Board of Directors for Postpartum Support International's Maryland Chapter. Most importantly though, she's a mom of 3. She came to this work after a frustrating and painful postpartum experience with her first born when she was a young mom. After birthing her first two children within the traditional OB/GYN hospital system, she decided to have an unmedicated, Midwife-attended home birth with her 3rd. Each birth and postpartum experience taught her something new, and she welcomes all families - no matter their choice of medical care or arrival to parenting - to her doula practice. Originally from Cincinnati, OH Courtney relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2007 to attend Howard University. After Courtney’s son Lenox was born she felt called to support other families during the critical newborn period. She trained as a postpartum doula and newborn care specialist working with countless families as they welcomed new babies, navigated developmental milestones and sleep challenges, and worked to establish loving boundaries with their toddlers.
