The cost of a midwife in Midlothian, VA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Virginia Medicaid covers care provided by certified nurse-midwives for Midlothian residents. Federal Medicaid requirements include these services, so prenatal visits, births, and postpartum care attended by a CNM are reimbursed. Plan coverage is less consistent for licensed or certified professional midwives who attend home or birth-center deliveries, and only one midwife is listed within 60 miles of Midlothian. Private insurance benefits vary, so review your plan’s provider network and maternity coverage.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

I am a birth doula, childbirth educator and international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). I am hiring for VBAC clients and moms having their second, third, ect. babies.

Recent review

I made the decision to go with a doula late in my pregnancy. Having previously had multiple abdominal surgeries, including a cesarean, I decided to do everything possible to prevent another one. That’s where Sara came in. Sara provided me with resources and positivity right away. She was very supportive of my wish to have a VBAC, and she never once doubted my ability to do so. Little did I know that I would be diagnosed with severe preeclampsia at 35wks, shortly after meeting Sara in person. It became clear that I needed to deliver right away. I was given the choice to either have a repeat cesarean or be induced for a VBAC. Sara provided me with helpful information so that I was able to make informed choices. I decided to go for the VBAC, and Sara was there to support me every step of the way. Despite requiring many medical interventions, I view my daughter’s birth as a positive experience. I know that a big part of that is because I had Sara’s expertise and steady reassurance. Not only did she help us with labor and delivery, but she also provided postpartum and lactation support in the NICU and at home. I couldn’t have asked for a better doula. Our family is very grateful to have had Sara on our team.

There is no way I can fully express my gratitude for Eva and the fact that I was able to have her by my side as my doula. It's no exaggeration when I say it made ALL the difference in my birth and I can't imagine what it would have been like if she was not there. Not only is Eva a skilled and experienced doula in the matters of childbirth but she is an incredible listener and support which is so critical at such a vulnerable time. She gives you the space and respect you need but is a source of strength and wisdom when you need to lean on her. She was always available, incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely respected our wishes and experience which is hard to come by these days. Everything you would hope for in an ideal doula and more. Working with her was an actual blessing from God; I will be forever grateful. Where many people in the industry can dismiss or minimize your experience, Eva sincerely cared and honored us throughout. She went above and beyond and her love for the Lord shows in her character and the reverence she brings to her clients and her calling. Anyone who works with her is incredibly lucky to have her by their side.

Elise Benoit

Packages from $1,600

Elise is a ToLabor Certified Birth Doula, a CAPPA trained Postpartum Doula, an IPPA trained Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and a Lamaze Trained Childbirth Educator. Elise also attended the University of Georgia and Piedmont College and holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is a mother to Theo and Georgia and is married to Todd. She entered into the doula field after her own birth, which showed her the importance of building a supportive birth and postpartum team. She continued to add trainings to help extend her knowledge about the many facets of birth and offer assistance through the postpartum time. Those trainings and workshops include: Acupressure in pregnancy and childbirth, Perinatal Loss and Grief, and Spinning Babies Techniques. Elise believes that education and unbiased support lead to each birthing family feeling empowered and informed when making childbirth decisions. After personally enduring a battle with postpartum depression, she hopes to help her clients feel supported through the entire childbirth experience including the fourth trimester. Through her work as a birth doula and her own experience, she saw her clients have beautiful births, but still struggle with energy and emotions during the postpartum experience. She offers placenta encapsulation as a holistic option to balance hormones, replenish iron, increase prolactin for milk production, and boost energy levels. Outside of the birth world, Elise enjoys cheering for UGA (Go Dawgs!), arranging flowers, reading, retail therapy, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

I absolutely credit Elise with the amazing positive empowering birth experience I was able to have as a first time mom. Her presence is soothing, confident, and maternal. My husband was so happy to have her there, so reassuring and helpful. Even though we arrived in the delivery room as I was in transition, she still managed to set the ambiance and calm mood I needed for the space. For anyone on the fence, I would say absolutely go for it. Having a doula is everything I had hoped it would be. I will be calling her when it’s time for baby #2

K. Blake Slusser

8 years of experience
Packages from $1,495

Hi, I’m Blake! I’ve been working in birth since 2010. I am a Lamaze certified childbirth educator, certified birth doula, and prenatal yoga teacher. I believe that the journey through pregnancy and birth can be difficult and beautiful at the same time and love the opportunity to support parents as their family grows.

I had every fear, anxiety and horror story heard from friends going through my head about labor and delivery. How could I not, when one of the single biggest things you ever go through (delivering a baby) has no guarantee about how it will go? This is where Blake helped immensely. Not only has she been through this, three times herself, and more than that as a Doula, but she's a wealth of knowledge on everything about it. From the moment Blake told me she was available to be with us at the birth of our daughter, I felt the weight of the unknown world come off of my chest. Not to discredit the amazing nurses and midwives at my delivery or my incredibly smart OBGYN, but there is something to be said for having an advocate for you in the room. Blake personally came to our home prior to birth to learn more about our preferences, my fears, help us lay out a potential birth plan. She helped us understand what the different options were and when one thing might be more important than another. She was on call from there whenever we had questions, concerns or updates. She was my first call when I believed I was in labor. She gave me guidance on what to do from there and met us at the hospital before we were admitted. She walked me around the hospital for 45 minutes because I wasn't dilated enough for them to admit me at first. She advocated for me once we were admitted and ensured my birth plan priorities and needs were met, and quickly. She worked very well with the medical professionals and my husband in the room. She kept me comfortable, occupied and entertained, and above all else, calm. I'll never forget after delivering my daughter, and Blake getting me a snack and drink and literally feeding me while I held my baby for the first time. She checked in on us after delivery. When I look back on memories of that day, and photos (that Blake took) I feel so fortunate to have had such a positive birth experience and credit so much of that to having Blake with us.
