What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in Ogden, UT?

The cost of a lactation consultant in Ogden, UT, can vary depending on the provider, location, and the type of service (in-person versus virtual). On average, in the United States, lactation consultant services typically cost between $150 to $350 for an initial consultation, which usually lasts 1-2 hours. Follow-up sessions may range from $75 to $150. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of the cost, so it's worth checking with your provider. For more specific pricing in Ogden, UT, you may need to contact local lactation consultants directly.

The cost of a lactation consultant in Ogden, UT can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Ogden offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a lactation consultant in Ogden, UT, depends on your specific insurance plan. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many insurance plans are required to cover breastfeeding support and counseling, which may include services from a lactation consultant. However, coverage can vary, so it’s important to check with your insurance provider to confirm if lactation consultant services are included, what documentation may be needed, and whether the consultant needs to be in-network. Additionally, some consultants may offer billing assistance or provide superbills for reimbursement if they are not directly covered.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Ogden, UT, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

With five years of experience as a family chiropractor, she has dedicated her career to supporting families through every stage of infancy and childhood. Dr. Megan combines her passion for chiropractic care with her commitment to helping mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals. Her journey in healthcare began at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minnesota, where she became a chiropractor. After several years of practice, she identified a critical need in her community for specialized support in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care. This led her to further her education and earn her IBCLC certification, allowing her to address common breastfeeding challenges effectively. Dr. Megan employs gentle, neurologically-focused adjustments to alleviate tension in infants caused by the stresses of birth. When she’s not in the office, Dr. Megan enjoys exploring the beautiful Utah mountains. Whether skiing, golfing, hiking, or camping with her husband Matthew and their dog Sadie, she cherishes the time spent outdoors. I was so grateful to have Kaytalyn there when my baby was born. The night I met her was the night my baby was born. I unexpectedly needed a c-section two days before I was 34 weeks. I went to the hospital straight from a doctor's appointment, which I was supposed to have gone home and had my first appointment with her, when I realized I wasn't going to make the appointment, she just so happened to call to let me know she was going to be late due to horrible traffic, when I explained the situation instead of canceling the appointment she came straight to the hospital and spent the next eight or so hours with me, helping and go through a c-section and recovery and just be there with me so my husband could be with our baby in the NICU. I was so grateful to have her there, otherwise I would have been alone after going through a very traumatic situation, very suddenly. Over the next month while our baby was in the nicu she checked on us almost daily and sometimes more. Then, after our sweet baby came home, she came and helped me with various things so I didn't so feel so overwhelmed by everything that was happening and had happened. I had no idea when we obtained her services that we would be cared for so well. I would recommend hiring her to anyone who was looking for a Dula. She was wonderful!

I came to liz to seek lactation support. My 2 month old was struggling at nursing, getting very rigid and stiff with colic and eventually was only able to nurse in one position. She helped me get to the root cause of my babies struggles which ended up being a tongue tie. She referred me to great providers to help with this process. I followed up with her after to help my little one retrain his tongue and making sure latching continued to go well.
