Malissa has been a labor doula since 2014 and has attended over 70 births. A DONA certified doula, she is committed to lifelong learning and their standards and ethics. Other trainings include certification through DONA, Life Cycles in Buffalo, NY, Inspired Birth in NM, Neonatal resuscitation with Karen Strange and, Infant CPR, and proud to be a part of the doula team serving families at the Birthing Center of Buffalo. A yoga teacher since 2006, Malissa utilizes her experience before, during, and after birth. She’s taught in various yoga schools nationally including Albuquerque, NM, Buffalo, NY, and NYC including operating her school, Ashtanga Yoga Buffalo, from 2014-2021.

I am a certified birth doula, with special training in VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and am also a Certified Lactation Counselor. I became a doula after my own empowering births and felt a calling to support families throughout birth and breastfeeding. I believe that birth is a unique, individual experience that deserves presence, encouragement, and support. Being a guide as one navigates the unknowns and weighs the decisions of birth is one of my greatest honors, next to being a mother. I believe that doulas can change the world by inspiring calm and confidence in birthing parents. I love the power of birth to connect couples and delights in helping them work as a team. Birth is a deeply transformative experience and one that I will guide you through with compassion and enduring support. I love spending time with my two toddlers and husband, going on nature walks, reading or journaling, and digging in my flower and vegetable gardens.

I am a DONA-trained Postpartum Doula and owner of Sage Support. No experience of my life has been as foundation-rattling as having my first child. My husband and I lived far from family and friends, and - like most - our family had other day-to-day responsibilities that kept them busy. Add in a (short) NICU stay, early feeding challenges, and insufficient paternity leave, and I was a mess. In those early days, in between visits from our mothers and sisters, I constructed a tiny village of “nice ladies” - lactation consultants, speech language pathologists, a weekly breastfeeding group, and a psychologist - to put myself back together and stabilize my daughter’s eating. I believe that our country needs significant policy changes that better support families, birthing people, and infants. In the meantime, postpartum doulas can help fill that gap. I went through DONA postpartum doula and breastfeeding training in January 2021, and I’m working on the final requirements to be fully certified. I will work hard to support your family and refer you to other evidence-based professionals.
