I am in need of a doula to guide myself and my husband, Shaheen, through the pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period (including breastfeeding). We are hoping you can provide us with specific, actionable ways for Shaheen to support me during pregnancy, especially during labor, and during the postpartum period. I hope to labor at home as long as possible, avoid the epidural if possible, and I really would like to avoid a C-section. I am eager to learn about natural birthing techniques and positions that work with my body and gravity. We are first-time parents expecting a baby girl via a planned C-section at Stanford on September 16. We live in San Bruno and are looking for an experienced postpartum doula or newborn care specialist to begin after we return from the hospital. Our priority is overnight support for approximately 8–12 hours per night, ideally 5–7 nights per week for the first 2–4 weeks, with flexibility to extend. We need help with feeding, burping, diaper changes, soothing, swaddling, bottle and pump-part cleaning, and tracking the baby’s feeding and sleep. We would especially value someone trained in lactation support who can assist with breastfeeding, latch, positioning, pumping, and recognizing when an IBCLC should be consulted. Experience supporting C-section recovery is also important. The provider must communicate comfortably in English and have strong newborn experience. Postpartum doula or newborn-care training, infant CPR/First Aid, excellent references, and knowledge of current safe-sleep practices are strongly preferred. We want responsive newborn care and healthy sleep foundations—not “cry it out” or formal sleep training during the newborn stage.
