After retiring from a long career of working with children and families, I became a professional doula. I wanted to support and nurture birthing persons during this sacred time of their lives. I wanted to offer sacred holistic services to them, youth, and communities by partnering with them as they learn more about holistic reproductive wellness. I also wanted to educate them about the importance of preventive reproductive health care, maternal health justice, trauma-informed quality childcare, equity and advocacy, childbirth education and basic lactation support through coaching, training, and mentoring not only birthing persons but the community and new doulas. So, I immersed and dedicated myself to learning all that I could about how to support in this way. I am the mother of two amazing adult sons and oftentimes reflect on my birthing experiences. They were both very different births but what helped me survive was the birthing team I chose and the village around me when I returned home and encourage those, I serve to embrace their community and build their village. I am also a Childbirth Educator, an author, singer/songwriter, a Master of Ceremony and a speaker. I am a birth justice advocate that believes birth work is justice work and there is no way to separate one from the other!

I used to be a nurse in Brazil for 16 years. I would like to proceed in this area because I have always enjoyed working with prenatal and natal stages, including babies aged 0-6 months in the hospital. I decided to concentrate more on being a doula since it encompasses more of what I love to do. I have worked as a combination of an at-home nurse and post-birth baby care for mothers fresh out of the hospital. But since moving here instead of being a nurse again, I have decided to be a certified doula.

My name is Shante, and I am passionately dedicated to guiding women through the transformative journey of childbirth as a birth Doula. With an unwavering commitment to empowering women, I have made it my mission to ensure that every woman I support enters motherhood with confidence, informed choices, and a positive birth experience. One of my areas of expertise is hospital birth, emotional support, and the labor techniques. By skillfully assisting mothers in optimizing fetal positioning, I enhance their chances of a smoother and more comfortable labor. This technique aligns with my commitment to ensuring that the birthing process is as natural and harmonious as possible. In addition, I am well-versed in Hypno-Birthing, a practice that harnesses the power of the mind-body connection to alleviate fear and discomfort during labor. Beyond the physical aspects of childbirth, I recognize the paramount importance of emotional and mental support. I stand by each woman's side as an encouraging voice, providing a safe space for her to express her feelings and fears. My role extends beyond the birthing process itself, encompassing the entire spectrum of emotions that come with the transition to motherhood. As a birth Doula, my commitment to women's well-being goes beyond a profession – it is my calling. I am driven by the knowledge that I have the privilege to make a profound impact on the lives of both mothers and their newborns. My ultimate goal is to facilitate an experience that is not only empowering but also sets the foundation for a strong and nurturing bond between mother and child. I am here to provide guidance, support, and advocacy.

Hi, I’m Lianne—some like to call me Li. I’m a 34-year-old woman deeply committed to supporting parents and individuals through big life transitions, especially the beautiful, complex journey into parenthood. I understand how vulnerable and transformative this time can be. My goal is to walk alongside you with care and steady support—nurturing not just your baby, but you, and your whole family, as you adjust and grow. In addition to my work with families, I run an organic skincare company that connects me to the natural world through ingredients like shea butter, calendula, castor oil, etc. I bring that same care into your postpartum experience—whether it’s preparing nourishing meals, offering soothing massages and herbal baths, steeping teas, or blending hydrating tonics. Everything I do is designed to support your body, mind, and nervous system. I’m certified in infant CPR and life coaching, and I'm very open to learning if there is something you wish for me to delve into during our journey together! I bring compassion, experience, and a calm presence to every family I work with. I’d love to connect and see if we’re a good fit.

Lianne has been helping me since my youngest was a few months old and I went back to work. She has been a godsend for us, essentially “being me” while I was home so I could focus on the baby, nursing, and soaking up that precious time. She prepared insanely delicious meals that were nurturing (even my 5 year old enjoyed them!) kept things tidy and helped me make all of my apts on time and without stress. Now that my baby is a little older she still offers to lend a helping hand and has forged a beautiful relationship with both my children. She really fit into the family seamlessly. She knows what needs to be done, helps intuitively without being asked, and is always thinking of how to support and nurture those in her care. She’s one in a million and I can’t speak more highly of her

My journey in birth work started at age 12, when I had the unique experience of catching my little sister. At age 22, I started my work as a volunteer doula in Vermont, serving members in the community who lacked support. My early volunteer work gave me a deep understanding of how hospitals function, and how to work with medical staff towards the best possible outcomes for parent and child. In 2023, I was trained and certified through DONA, with mentorship by Penny Bussell Stansfield and Dr. Teri Nava-Anderson. Having been through two training programs has given me a diverse range of strategies to draw upon in our prenatal planning sessions and during your labor and birth! I have been honored to participate in many birth stories, each with unique circumstances and goals. I have experience supporting medicated and unmedicated vaginal births, scheduled and emergent Cesarean births with first, second, and fourth-time parents, queer parents, low-income parents, autistic parents, non-native English-speaking parents, sexual assault survivors, people with depression, and parents of color. I am a member of the queer community and this has strengthened my belief that all bodies deserve respectful, compassionate, and culturally humble care.

I became a birth and postpartum doula after completing my training through Birthing Project USA in 2020. I began my doula business to address and help circumvent the racial disparities African American women and other women of color face in the medical industry. I loves educating all mothers to inspire positive prenatal experiences and to better equip them for labor, delivery and postpartum. It brings me joy to support moms during such a special and intimate time. I love encouraging them as they learn and grow more confident on their journey to childbirth.

As a doula and childbirth educator with over 20 years of experience, I have come to learn that compassionate support is the most important thing I bring to birth. Close to 1000 births matters. Having taught 1000s of couples in childbirth classes matters. But mostly what matters is that the person giving birth feels respected, listened to and supported by someone who is thinking about all possible options for you in an objective way. I believe in freedom of choice based on knowledge of the alternatives. I aim to increase confidence and decrease fear. And in the end, I want you to feel like you have had a compassionate, knowledgeable companion dedicated to helping you navigate this this major life transition that we call birth.

I spent the first six years of my career working in early childhood education. First working in a daycare, then moving onto preschool, and later working as a nanny. My time in early childhood gave me a great appreciation of mothers, children, and families. I found it incredibly rewarding to be welcomed into someone’s home and life to care for their most precious possession. As I worked in early childhood I simultaneously took certifications in my other passion, fitness. I began to learn about anatomy and how different perinatal bodies are to women who have not given birth. One of my trainings stated that 80% of women will be pregnant (and eventually postpartum) at some point in their lives. This special consideration stuck with me. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to try for children that I fully understood the wonder of fertility, pregnancy, and birth. I became obsessed with devouring all the information I could on these topics and finally stumbled upon Ina May’s guide to childbirth. This book completely changed how I viewed birth and melted my fears of childbirth away. However, by the time I became pregnant navigating the often confusing OB and even midwifery world left me feeling dizzy. The entire process left me feeling disempowered and I knew I couldn’t go into giving birth from this space. This pushed me to train to be a birth doula to ensure I would have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. The training helped me to understand physiological birth, navigating the medical world, and what I wanted even in the event of an unplanned obstacle. I finally felt confident I could handle whatever labor could throw at me. My passion for birth was born out of necessity and I plan to use that same level of devotion to help other women. I truly believe my unique skill set and experiences have lead me to the field of birth work. I created Fit to Birth to combine all my knowledge and passions. I hope to provide resources, education, and support to pregnant women in Sacramento and beyond.
