The cost of a midwife in Alexandria, LA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Louisiana Medicaid covers certified nurse-midwife care for members in Alexandria because federal rules require Medicaid programs to include these services. Reimbursement includes prenatal care, birth attendance, and postpartum care provided by a CNM. Coverage for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth-center deliveries varies by plan, and local options are very limited, with one midwife listed within 60 miles. Private insurance coverage depends on the individual policy and provider network.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Alexandria, LA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

I'm a passionate birthworker since 2020, specializing in Lamaze/Breathology, childbirth education, prenatal yoga, and birth/postpartum doula services. Based in McComb but originally from Cincinnati, I proudly serve the wonderful communities of Southwest Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana In 2024, I took a big step in my career by deciding to begin my midwifery journey, and fully stepping into my midwife era. Now, as an apprenticing midwife/monitriece, I focus on traditional midwifery and herbalism, bringing ancient wisdom to modern birth practice, while still also serving the community as a full spectrum doula. As a homeschooling mom of three energetic, young, vivacious girls, I deeply value the importance of providing comprehensive and compassionate care to families during the childbearing year. I'm dedicated to empowering women and their families to make informed choices about their birth and postpartum experiences, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

My experience with Herlistic Living was truly professional, meaningful, and beyond my expectations. From the very beginning, Mrs. Adriana Hawkins-Smith was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. She took the time to answer every question I had thoroughly and clearly, whether it was by phone, text message, or during our in-person conversations. Her communication was consistent, reassuring, and made me feel completely confident throughout the entire process. The transfer of my placenta from the hospital to her care was smooth and stress-free, with no issues at all. Mrs. Hawkins-Smith handled everything with the utmost professionalism and respect. She did an amazing job preparing my placenta fertilizer, and the umbilical cord gift was beautifully done and very meaningful to me. I am truly grateful for her care, attention to detail, and dedication to her work. I sincerely thank her for everything she has done for me and would highly recommend Herlistic Living to anyone looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and trustworthy services.

Hi, I’m Nicole! I was born in Houston but raised in Chireno, a small East Texas town just outside of Nacogdoches, and this area has always been home to me. For the past eight years, I’ve owned and managed a cosmetic store in downtown Nacogdoches, and before that, I worked as a CNA for three years. As well as a substitute teacher at a preschool for a year. Looking back, caring for and connecting with people has always been at the heart of what I do. My love for birth work really began after supporting my best friend during her birth in 2024, but watching my sister give birth alongside her doula in March 2026 truly confirmed that this was where my heart belonged. That experience inspired me to start The Nurtured Nest, where I provide birth and postpartum doula support to families in East Texas. My goal is simply to help families feel calm, informed, heard, and genuinely cared for during such an important season of their lives. I’m so excited to continue growing in birth work, serving families in my community, and seeing where this journey takes me!

I’m so grateful for the support and guidance I received throughout my birth experience. She helped me feel prepared and confident going into my C-section, and her post-birth advice was incredibly helpful. Her knowledge, reassurance, and genuine care made such a difference during such an important time. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a compassionate and supportive doula!
