My baby had a tongue tie that got fixed in the hospital and now I need help getting him to latch. He does well with the nipple shield but not my actual nipple. He needs to be putting on weight so we want to see how much he’s actually getting each time I breast feed with the nipples shield or in general.

This is my second baby and I’ll be doing a repeat c-section. My first baby was born 5 weeks early and I was never able to get him to latch, so I exclusively pumped. My biggest regret is not finding a lactation consultant before the baby was born, and relying on the hospital lactation consultant who wasn’t very present or helpful. I’d like to meet with someone before the baby is born in case I have issues I have someone to call.

Born via creation latched great and nursed well at hospital then latched got worse when we got home. She was jaundice so our pediatrician had me pump to make sure exactly the amount she was getting because she was losing too much weight and not gaining. I do want to breastfeed directly but she caused a lot of nipple trauma and mastitis already on left side. I have cleared the mastitis and finished antibiotics. Wanting to try again but afraid I’ll have bad nipple trauma again. She will not nurse with a nipple shield I have tried. I do have tricare but do not have a lot of money to pay out of pocket. My husband is currently deployed and will not be back state side til May. We have a 6 year old lil boy as well. He nursed ok but did require nipple shield he however didn’t mind the shield and eventually I was able to take the shield away and we made it to 6 months. I have never been an oversupply person I did have to give some formula for our first cause I did not make enough for him. She has had formula already and she is finally gaining weight so I don’t want to rock the boat with that.

I am looking for an IBCLC that accepts medicaid for my 3 month old baby who is having feeding trouble. He was diagnosed as failure to thrive and was just released from the hospital. I am looking for help learning how to pump effectively and efficiently while we combine nursing and supplement with formula, with the hope of getting him completely back to the breast.
