I trained as a Nurse, specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing and in more recent years, working with post partum families within the hospital setting. Over my 23 year career, I have been fortunate enough to have worked in the UK, New Zealand and Canada, finally settling in beautiful British Columbia. I am based in North Vancouver, married, and have two rambunctious boys aged 5 and 8. Through experiences of loss and navigating bias within the medical system, my work and education began as acts of self-preservation and advocacy, evolving into a passion for supporting autonomy and community-centred care. My doula work is further shaped by a background in early childhood education and the privilege of caring for several wonderful families as a nanny. Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers.
