The cost of a midwife in Chesapeake, VA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Virginia Medicaid covers certified nurse-midwife care for Chesapeake residents because these services are required Medicaid benefits nationwide. Reimbursement includes prenatal visits, delivery, and postpartum care attended by a CNM. Coverage for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth centers depends on the Medicaid plan and is not guaranteed for every member; locally, four midwives are listed within 60 miles of Chesapeake. Private insurance coverage varies by policy and provider network, so confirm benefits with the insurer.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

My name is Jasmine, but many know me as Jas the Doula. I am a mama of two and I have a passion for women's health. In my spare time I am heavily involved in the community spreading awareness on the benefits of doulas and advocating for high quality care. I have spent nearly 6 years of my career case managing pregnant and postpartum women and providing ongoing education, resources, and encouragement through a prominent health plan in the Tidewater region. Additionally, I am a state-certified doula accepting Medicaid insurance and out-of-pocket payment plans. I have obtained my doula certification through Birth in Color RVA, a bachelor's degree in health services management from Norfolk State University and a masters degree in healthcare delivery science from Eastern Virginia Medical School. My focus is on prenatal, labor & delivery, postpartum and pregnancy loss support. As your doula, I will work with you to release any present fears, anxieties or previous birth traumas, help you plan and find the resources and providers for your ideal birth, help you create a birth plan to communicate your needs to providers, provide education on comfort measures, birthing positions and pain relief options for labor and birth, as well as assist with initiating breastfeeding within the first hour postpartum. I will remain connected with you up to two months postpartum, providing a total of four in-home visits to assist with newborn care, education and safety. I will also assist you with connecting to postpartum supports such as support groups, therapist, lactation consultants, pelvic floor specialist and more! Having Jada as my Doula was by far the best experience. Since she was on my case, she had been there physically mentally and even helped financially when it came down to giving birth and the stretching and being comfortable & believing that your body is made for this because I did have my son naturally she was on the bed with me, helping me to be comfortable. She was walking around the hospital with me helping me to be comfortable. She was helping me labor on the toilet. She had the music going. She had affirmations going. Everything about the experience was amazing and I keep on saying if I ever have another child. I will definitely have her again and I will definitely do it naturally if you're skeptical about Abdullah, I would absolutely recommend Jada.
