About me

I offer overnight support for families with newborns. Besides supporting parents in the care for their newborn I also love to ‘mother the mother’ as she needs to rest and recover in the fourth trimester. I offer practical support, such as help with (breast)feeding, making sure mom stays hydrated and rested, clean bottles and pump parts, help with baby laundry etc. I also provide evidence based information on newborn care as well as emotional support to process all the changes and offer parents encouragement where needed. I’m your biggest cheerleader to become confident in your parenting skills and style!

I’m a postpartum doula and love supporting new parents in their parenting journey! A supported family is more likely to thrive and I believe we are not meant to do this alone! To have support in the fourth trimester gives parents time to rest, bond and recover. And it has really been my joy to offer that to families in the form of overnight support for several years now.

Is overnight doula support just for families with issues?

Absolutely not. To have support in the fourth trimester is something every family can benefit from. It can be exhausting even when all goes ‘well’. Research has shown that families that have some form of postpartum support in the fourth trimester are more likely to breastfeed longer and successfully, have a lower rate of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders and are more confident in their parenting skills. So those things can benefit all families as they transition after birth.

Does a lactation educator not support bottle feeding?

As a postpartum Doula and lactation educator I love when babies can get breastmilk since research shows all the benefits for both the baby and the mother. However breastfeeding is not always the best option for every family. There are many reasons why this can be different for everyone. I support any choice a family makes in this regard. I do however want to support families to make an informed and evidence-based choice that works best for their family. Very often there is a combination, so I often help with some bottlefeeding at night so parents can get some more rest, whether that is with pumped breastmilk, formula, donor milk or a combination of those. No judgment here!

How long should I hire you?

This is so different as well for each family. Often when it’s a first baby parents choose a package based on expected need, finances, and other support they have. When it’s a second or third baby the family often knows more of what they want and know daytime sleep is more rare so the night shifts are even more desired sometimes. The way recovery goes depends on so many things. Mental health, physical health (c section? Complicated birth? Issues with recovery etc) and of course the support they have. Most families I work for start with 3-4 shifts a week for about 6-12 weeks. Many times if I am available they entend a little bit or transition slowly to 2-3 times a week also depending on how recovery went and how sleep shaping we have done has gone so far. The fourth trimester is 12 weeks so many families have 10-12 weeks of support which can also be nice if they transition back into work life or recovery takes a bit longer than hoped. I try to offer whatever works for a family with their specified needs and finances.
