I was a lifeguard for 6 years and that transitioned to the healthcare field which I have been in for the last 5 years. I have always found ways to integrate myself in the pregnancy world, I have worked on labor and delivery units in hospitals, and in an OB/GYN clinic. Hi! I’m Ashley. I’m a DONA Certified Birth Doula & Advanced VBAC Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, owner of Saltwater Doula, and an educator and agency coordinator at the Relief Doula Agency based out of Relief Parenting Respite and Resource Center in Hampton, NH. I am also the lucky mom of two sweet and salty girls! Birth is new and important every single time- I believe this with every fiber of my being. I support families in the weeks and months after baby arrives. In person, virtually, all across Hampton and the surrounding NH towns, southern Maine, and the North Shore of MA. Most nights I'm in your home while you sleep. I handle the feeds, the diaper changes, the 3am stuff, so you can actually rest instead of running on empty. Daytime shifts look different depending on what you need that day. Some families want a hand with the baby. Some want help around the house. Some just want someone there who knows what they're doing. I used to get tangled up in the idea that paid support wasn't as real as a village showing up for free, but I don't anymore. When I was in it myself, some of the people who showed up were paid and some weren't. In the moment, I didn't care which was which. I was just glad someone was there. What matters is whether the person in your house is actually present with you, not just going through the motions. That's what I try to be.

Many factors play into recovery after giving birth; total responsibility of a teeny tiny new baby, physical rehabilitation, and sleeplessness. I first trained as a doula in 2009, after the birth of my (much) younger brother. I was inspired by my mother’s experience and wanted to help birthing people own their births and find their confidence as a new parent through the birthing process. I went on to study Maternal and Child Health graduating from Boston University with a Master in Public Health. I have worked in public health policy with the career aim to transform the birthing system in this country.
