We cannot say enough wonderful things about Heidi and the role she played in bringing our sweet Mila into the world! Our story with Heidi actually began during a previous pregnancy that unfortunately did not work out. Heidi was incredibly kind and compassionate through that experience and refunded the money we had paid her. We told her that when we were lucky enough to become pregnant again, we would be back; and although it took us a while to get there, we kept that promise. Throughout my pregnancy with Mila, Heidi was informative, supportive, and involved. She held classes with us, came to our home several times, and truly took the time to get to know us. By delivery day, she felt like someone we knew and completely trusted. During labor, Heidi was incredible. I was especially nervous about the epidural, and she stayed right beside me, keeping me calm and reassuring me. She used different techniques, positions, and comfort measures to help relieve pain and stress, and when we were faced with decisions, having her there to help us understand our options was invaluable. One of the most meaningful moments for my husband came right after Mila was born. Heidi guided him to go be with Mila while she stayed with me. In such an overwhelming moment, he wouldn’t have known what to do otherwise. Because of her, he was able to be there for those first moments with our daughter while knowing I wasn’t alone. After everything it took for us to finally welcome Mila, having Heidi by our side made the experience even more special. We will always be grateful that she is part of Mila’s birth story and could not recommend her enough!

I am so grateful for Heidi! She assisted the births of both of my daughters, 7 years apart. Her knowledge of "Spinning Babies", helping get the baby into the optimal postion for birth, helped so much with the delivery of my first daughter because she was sunny side up at first. Heidi worked with me during my contractions to turn her face down and it worked! I only pushed for 30 minutes and she was born. With my second daughter, she was breech until about 37 weeks, and Heidi worked with us, hands-on, in our home and for the next few weeks to teach us ways to prompt our baby to turn head-down, and she did! We delivered at Vanderbilt, and her breadth of knowledge for the hospital process was so comforting throughout the whole pregnancy and delivery. So so grateful 🙏 Bless you, Heidi!

Heidi is amazing!! I am so glad we found her to be the doula for the birth of my second born. She is truly a wealth of knowledge. She was there to help me through my pregnancy, labor, and even after by providing me with support and resources. Heidi went above and beyond during my long labor. She stayed with me well beyond what was required to make sure I was okay. She was so patient, encouraging, kind, and gentle with me. She was a wonderful advocate for me and helped me know my options. I felt so supported and comfortable with her, especially during this precious and vulnerable time. I cannot recommend her enough

Heidi was amazing, my only regret is not hiring her sooner! She was there whenever I needed her and really gave me back the autonomy I was lacking with my OB. Heidi is a true expert in spin babies and worked so hard during my labor to get my little guy into the proper position. I truly wish I had her there from the start to help me advocate for myself, if you’re contemplating getting doula at all, you need Heidi.

Heidi was an amazing doula! From the very start, she prioritized getting to know me and my family through a home visit and online visits... So so thankful we had Heidi's support through the experience of meeting our first child.

We cannot recommend Heidi as a doula enough! She was such a gift in guiding our son earth side and we would recommend her to any friend.

I would highly recommend Heidi's birthing class to any and all expecting mothers. Her knowledge and level of care is unmatched. I started the class very scared of what labor would be like and throughout the course of a weekend she was able to dispell all of my fears and anxieties and replace them with knowledge and true understanding for the birthing process. She took the time to carefully answer all of our questions and gave us many resources to learn further on our own as well. After her class I feel a sense of confidence over my labor that I couldn't imagine aquiring without her help. Thank you so much, Heidi!

Heidi was an amazing doula during my pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum! She goes above and beyond to make sure you are supported, informed, and that your birth plan is respected by your entire healthcare team. As my first pregnancy, the birth of my twins went nothing as I would have initially wanted as I was planning for a natural birth with the least intervention as possible but due to my twins being breech, my only safe option to deliver them was a c-section. Heidi even referred me to an amazing prenatal body work specialist to attempt to safely reposition my babies into head down position. She really became a trusted voice and friend along the way for me and my husband due to her extensive birth experience as a doula. On the day of my planned c-section, Heidi advocated for me in many ways when I was nervous and apprehensive during my surgical preparation. She also was able to be in the OR with my husband and I during the delivery of our twins and then assisted with my first breastfeeding session and initial post-operative recovery time. I would recommend Heidi to anyone looking for a doula to support their pregnancy, labor, and delivery! While we have our hands full now with twins, I would definitely hire Heidi again if my husband and I decide to get pregnant again! I cannot thank her enough and am so grateful we had her support along the way even if my birth was not exactly as I would have hoped. It was still a miraculous day as I delivered two very healthy babies for which I am so grateful!

Heidi is awesome. I have taken a peanut ball class with her as well as have attended of birth where she was a Doula for one of my patients. Heidi is calm, assuring, and gives her clients the education that they need to achieve their goals. I am confident that if someone is hiring her as a Doula that they will be ready for physiological birth,as well as different types of birth in the hosptit, etc., and aware of their choices. I loved working with her.👏

I got Heidi's "everything" package, and it was 100% worth it! As first time parents--with my husband never having been around babies before--her classes were just what we needed to get a solid idea of what to expect, so when we got to the birth, we felt fully in control and nothing came as a surprise. Even though we didn't have the birth we planned for, by having Heidi's classes, I knew all of the options moving forward for an alternate plan. Having someone follow us from our home (original plan) to the hospital (non emergency transfer) was a huge blessing! Once we were at the hospital, it was nice to have someone who knew the ins and outs of everything to advocate for us, help us make educated decisions, and just be the solid support we needed. Hiring Heidi was hands down one of the best decisions we made for birth prep!

I’m 14 months postpartum and just now getting around to writing this, because I honestly don’t know if any review can truly do justice to how strongly I recommend Heidi Duncan. We first contacted Heidi while we were still living out of state, knowing we’d be in Clarksville by the time our baby arrived. It was our first pregnancy, and we were referred to her by our midwifery team—something I’ll always be grateful for. We did the private one-on-one birth coaching classes with Heidi and also asked her to be our birth doula. Every step of the way, both my husband and I felt supported, prepared, and completely comfortable. We planned a home birth, but after laboring at home longer than I could manage, we made the decision to transfer to the hospital. It was entirely our choice, and at no point did we feel judged. Thanks to Heidi’s support and education, we walked into that hospital empowered. We were able to make informed decisions about what interventions felt right for us, and we advocated for ourselves with confidence. I truly couldn’t imagine my birth—and the early postpartum period—without Heidi. In those first few overwhelming weeks, she connected us with resources that became lifelines: an IBCLC, postpartum doula recommendations, and more. I want Heidi in my corner for every future pregnancy and labor. I cannot recommend her enough. She is experienced, deeply knowledgeable, and without a doubt a key part of my dream birth team.

Heidi was beyond fantastic! Met with us several times prior to d-day and made us feel comfortable about the process (as much as possible.) However, it was during labor when she shinned. Acting as a quarterback for our birth team, she facilitated the exact birth that we wanted. She advocated on our behalf with the right amount of firmness. Can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have a Duola that has delivered 449 babies. If not for the obvious reasons, she’s already worked with everyone in town, and our midwife respected her enough to allow for the perfect teamwork. This is an immensely important day/phase, I wouldn’t want anyone other than Heidi there.

This review is long overdue! I had an amazing pregnancy, labor, and delivery experience with Heidi as my doula. This was not my first pregnancy, but after a COVID baby and a negative birth experience I was eager for a better outcome. Heidi was able to educate and give me the tools to advocate for myself. Heidi was also present at the hospital with me during labor and collaborated effectively with my birth team. They were able to position me in ways to flip my large, sunny side up baby even after I had an epidural and coach me through my first vaginal delivery. HIGHLY recommend, especially for women seeking a VBAC experience. THANK YOU, Heidi!
- Jess N
Heidi was incredibly supportive, informative and really took time to be in tune with what we were looking for in a doula. She did a great job AFTER the birth as well - checking in on my physical and mental health as well as our growing little family. HIGHLY recommend Heidi for anyone needing a doula; whether it's your first birth or several down the road.
- Emily P.
Heidi is amazing! Her classes truly prepared me for my natural labor. I went in feeling confident and had a magical labor and delivery. When we called Heidi and told her it was time to meet us, she came right away. Heidi knew exactly what I needed right when she arrived and my baby girl was in my arms within 30 minutes of Heidi's arrival. I cannot recommend her enough!
- Ali B.
We hired Heidi about 3 weeks before our son was born. Heidi was very professional, knowledgeable, and nonjudgmental in her care. Heidi made sure we were aware of our options and the evidence behind each option for both baby and Mom. She has many years of experience and it is evident. I felt very comfortable before, during, and after labor with Heidi and everything she offered. My husband was very thankful to have her assistance in labor and to offer help/guidance when needed. If we have a 4th baby, we will be hiring Heidi earlier to take better advantage of all of her resources available and birth planning. I highly recommend Heidi and will continue to sing her praise!!

Heidi is amazing!! Can’t recommend her enough.

I want to start out saying that Heidi is an amazing doula and had such a positive impact on my birthing experience! Heidi was my doula for my second birth which was a VBAC. Being active duty military my options for birthing facility were limited and I gave birth at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. My first pregnancy I delivered by cesarean section due to my daughter being breech. I was in search for a doula who could be an advocate for me and help with my goal of having an unmedicated VBAC. Heidi exceeded this. During pregnancy she would answer/support all questions and concerns I would have. When I went into labor she arrived to our birthing facility early morning and was there the early hours of the next day. She was extremely supportive of me and had all kinds of coping tools to help me with my unmedicated birth goal. We had music, essential oils, a tens unit and other tools/techniques used throughout the day. She helped advocate for my desires and would explain things to my husband and I as the day progressed. I was able to have a successful VBAC and she was a large part of this success. I would highly recommend her and would hire her again if I have more kiddos! Thank you, Heidi!

Where do I start?! I am a pelvic floor PT and understand the importance of support during labor to improve outcomes and reduce the potential for complications. As a military spouse in a new town with no family nearby, I didn’t have much of a community. Heidi has been there for me during both of my pregnancies and deliveries. A lot of my fear around labor/delivery was eased knowing she was a part of my care team. My first delivery was an induction due to husband deploying, and I pushed for longer than I thought possible. Things got a little trepid as I became fearful of a possible c-section. Heidi was by my side the entire time and I never felt out of control of the situation, and was still able to deliver my son vaginally with no tearing! My 2nd birth was predominantly in a birth tub at St. Thomas, and Heidi was once again the trusted voice in my ear when I became worried I’d push for a long time again. Fortunately I didn’t, my second born arrived 1.5 hours after arriving to the hospital, and again no tearing! No matter what your goals, Heidi is a respectful, trusting voice that is well-informed, research-based, and easy to communicate with. I want to have another baby before we leave TN just so Heidi can be my doula! More than 5 stars, 1000% recommended and worth every penny and then some.

Heidi was my Doula for my third birth, after having 2 inductions with epidurals. She is the best! I interviewed multiple Doulas, looking for virtual assistance, and she was the most competent & evidence-based, organized, and extremely supportive of my goals. She listened and coached me, and provided such great support to my husband and mom during labor & delivery. With her help, I was able to have a vaginal delivery without an epidural, even with a pitoicin induction at 39 weeks due to concerns with baby. She coached and helped our support team through 13 hours of labor. It was such a beautiful and wonderful birth. I would absolutely use her again. If you’re looking for a Doula, I cannot recommend Heidi enough!

I went through my first trimester with a lot of fear and anxiety. This was my first pregnancy and I went through a modern and traditional OB Dr who did the basics but the appointments were very short and I wasn’t able to reach out easily for small questions or concerns. I found Heidi through a friend who had a great experience with her. After hiring Heidi, I was able to call/text her with all my questions and concerns and she was able to easily reassure me and led me through my second and third trimester. The home visit and zoom meetings helped my husband learn, be apart of the process and how to go through labor with me. She gave me evidenced based exercises, stretches, and tools that I know helped prepare me and also assisted to a short labor. She came to the hospital asap after my water broke and things went fast. She helped communicate my wants/needs to the nurses and doctors. She helped keep the room calm and gave me ways to cope during labor/pushing. For me, Heidi helped me in so many ways but I would say mentally/emotionally through my pregnancy was my biggest benefit. I really could not have done it without her and highly recommend her!

My husband and I decided to take Heidi's private birth essential course prior to having our first born. To say she went above and beyond to make sure that we thoroughly understood the material is very much an understatement. This class covered everything we needed to prepare us for one of our hardest journeys we were about to take. Heidi made sure to explain in great detail, used imagery, props, analogies, to ensure that no matter our preferred learning method, we could easily follow. Not only is she a phenomenal teacher, but she is also a Doula with tons of experience which allowed her to give us first hand information and a deeper look into the bigger picture of what birth may entail. We are so very appreciative to her and all of her willingness to share her knowledge with us! We look forward to keeping in touch with her! Highly recommend this class regardless of which number baby this is for you!

I had an amazing experience in Heidi's workshop. I initially believed that peanut balls were only for women in the hospital setting who desired epidurals, but now I know that there are endless possibilities with the peanut ball during the prenatal period, throughout all stages of labor and even throughout the postpartum period. Heidi provides excellent information regarding station and position as it relates to the baby and the pelvis. I am grateful I have gotten the opportunity to take this training and I can not wait to incorporate it into my birth work. Thanks again Heidi!

My husband and I took Heidi's In-Home Spinning Babies class and it was AMAZING!! Highly recommend everything from her as a teacher, the class material itself, and also the in-home setting. Being in our own home was very helpful as we were really able to see how to use the skills taught in our own personal space! We feel much more prepared and equipped with the knowledge Heidi shared with us regarding everything from the anatomy of birth to the Spinning Babies positions to help physically cope and move along labor safely! She is so sweet and comforting while being realistic about the whole process. Would rate higher than 5 stars if possible!!!
- Hannah Ahrens
I recently attended Heidi's peanut ball workshop in Nashville, and I must say, my initial skepticism was quickly replaced with genuine enthusiasm. Being quite familiar with various peanut ball positions and pelvic biomechanics, I questioned how much more I could gain from the workshop. However, from the moment I stepped in, it became evident that this was a worthwhile investment. Not only did I acquire new insights into the versatile uses of the peanut ball, but the real gem was being in the presence of Heidi and soaking in her wealth of birth wisdom. Learning from someone with her depth of experience was truly priceless. Even if you think you know it all, Heidi's workshop proves there's always more to glean and discover. Highly recommended!
- Amanda Githaiga
Heidi’s Positioning for Success: Unlocking the Potential of the Peanut Ball class was so eye opening! I learned basic positioning in my doula certification that was foundational and has certainly served me well. However, this class totally took it up a notch! The Peanut Ball has a never ending amount of party tricks and knowing how to use it correctly - is the confidence I needed. I feel more than prepared, confident, and excited to take the information I learned into future birth settings and help my clients achieve the best birth outcomes possible. I am so thankful to Heidi for hosting this class and for her inviting teaching style. I will definitely be joining her again for future teachings on other topics!

I took the birth essentials class with my husband, and could not recommend enough!!! Every expecting parent should take this. Heidi is SO nice and informative and leaves no questions unanswered. 10000/10

I just had to come and let you all know what amazing person Heidi Duncan is. I went to her peanut ball workshop call on June 10, 2023. This is a must class for all doulas and birth workers. You should not miss this class it's very hands on and she teaches so much about the peanut ball. I definitely loved when she let us try how the different techniques feel on the ball. I never thought to try the different exercise out myself. Heidi, definitely made me look at every position different now. I will look for more of her classes in the future for refreshers as I am a birth doula and postpartum doula. Thank You so much Heidi Duncan for the work you bring to the birthing community. Took the Peanut Ball Workshop with Heidi this weekend in Nashville. Incredibly informational, every bit of what she taught can be used in every single setting as a Labor Doula. Heidi was very sweet and accommodating to me since I flew in from Atlanta. Definitely worth the trip. I’d take a class with her anytime.

Heidi is a great educator. She brings a lot of energy to the class. I took the peanut ball class and even with 15+ years experience in the birth world as a Childbirth Educator, Doula and Lactation Consultant, I learned so much about the use of a peanut ball and working with the person's individual body types.

Heidi is a great educator. She brings a lot of energy to the class... Thank you Heidi for your energy and passion in the work you do.

I can't recommend Heidi more highly. When we first learn that I was pregnant, we knew we wanted to aim for a natural birth. I was amazed to find Clarksville Midwifery (also highly recommended) in the midst of somewhat of a naturopathic desert. But we still weren't sure if we really needed a doula. A couple of months into the appointments, we decided to go forward with hiring one. This took a huge load off of my husband, who was getting an ever-longer list of labor responsibilities... Music, lighting, water, snacks, calling the midwife, etc. Having someone with tons of experience and tricks up her sleeve would be a blessing to all, we thought. And indeed, Heidi was not only a blessing during birth - finding the few things that worked to bring relief during a fast and furious labor - but also in the months and weeks leading up to the big day. We first hired Heidi for the Spinning Babies class - a huge value for understanding the labor anatomy and baby gymnastics, and providing helpful preparatory exercises. We then hired her for the childbirth education program - she uses an excellent curriculum that helped us prepared not only for our planned home birth, but also for the potential transfer to hospital, along with interventions and alternatives. Finally, we hired Heidi as our doula. Without her and the brilliant team at Clarksville Midwifery, I absolutely would have checked into a hospital for the fastest pain relief possible. Instead, they all worked together to help me know what was normal, suggested various coping mechanisms, and helped set expectations so that I could make it through the next contraction. Our healthy baby boy was born on 3/8, and Heidi was a huge part of our being able to have him safely and at home. Thank you, Heidi, for this life-changing experience!

For any couple that is interested or on the fence about having additional guidance during their pregnancy process, I hope they consider Heidi Duncan. For my wife and I, Heidi was our rock and main part of why our journey with our first child's pregnancy was so positive.

Heidi's class on Spinning Babies was wonderful! We learned about how the baby moves during the birth process and also learned exercises and daily habits to support optimal birth position for baby and mama. Heidi made the class fun, informative, and interactive for both myself and my husband. We also appreciated the option to do the class in the comfort and privacy of our own home. We would highly recommend it to anyone but especially first time parents!

I recently had my fourth baby at home and Heidi was my doula. She was absolutely amazing. I had a lot of my labor in the days leading up to the actual delivery and Heidi was wonderful in supporting me and helpful in offering suggestions that were supposed to get baby in a good position.

Heidi made our first pregnancy experience a joy! My wife and I live away from our family and felt intimidated by the waterfall of information we had to digest about pregnancy. Heidi was so caring and seemed to always provide timely advice or information to help us feel comfortable at every step. As the husband, Heidi put me at ease about my role and helped me to be more supportive of my wife by taking on the more physical related labor support. She knew just when to change what my wife was doing before and during labor to ease her discomfort. Lastly, I thought her providing Spinning Babies materials was the most important and impactful part of our process. I truly believe in the teachings and Midwifery as a whole. I couldn't imagine a different way to approach natural birth. Would recommend Heidi to be your Doula or even a dinner guest and friend! We have already reached out to her for help post birth too !

Heidi was my doula for my 3rd birth which was my VBA2C. She helped me make an informed decision on my birth keeping in mind risks and advantages. My baby was born when COVID restrictions only let one support person in the labor room and Heidi helped my support person with some hands on techniques.

Don’t know what we would have done without her! She was present every step of the way and brought both my husband and I so much reassurance and comfort. We will be using her for our next birth, for sure.

We have hired Heidi for the births of both of our children (2018 & 2021) and it is the BEST decision we could have ever made. My first birth didn't go as smoothly as I had prayed for, and through it all, Heidi was so incredibly supportive.

We have hired Heidi for the births of both of our children (2018 & 2021) and it is the BEST decision we could have ever made. My first birth didn't go as smoothly as I had prayed for, and through it all, Heidi was so incredibly supportive. She stayed with us for almost 24 hours and supported me through my drug induced fog. For my 2nd birth we joined Heidi in her Evidence Based Birth Class which helped lay the groundwork for a much smoother labor and birth. Heidi's teachings in the class were outstanding. Throughout the pregnancy she was there for support and questions. Towards the end of the pregnancy I had contractions at night for several nights in a row and she never once got annoyed with my texts updates. When the finale came I called her, she reminded me of some incredibly helpful movements and positions which enabled me to labor at home longer. She met us at the hospital and was there advocating for us, helping, and pouring out love and affirmations on me the entire time. Because of her guidance, wisdom and support I was able to labor at the hospital for less than 3 hours, pushed for 15 minutes and have a completely unmedicated delivery. I am such a complete wimp when it comes to pain and without Heidi I wouldn't have been able to achieve this! She is one of the kindest people I know! We will definitely hire her again if we have any more children.

Heidi is educated, prepared, professional, kind, thoughtful, and everything I wanted in a doula. We clicked, and she couldn't have been more helpful and supportive during one of the scariest yet exciting and definitely the best day of my life.

heidi is educated, prepared, professional, kind, thoughtful, and everything I wanted in a doula... i truly believe i had an easy labor and delivery because of heidi.

Heidi was so calm and encouraging throughout my labor. She knew different positions and pressure points to try to make labor less painful. I eventually had to get an epidural, but I have no doubt, I would not have lasted as long as I did without her help. She was also a great support to my husband by suggesting ways he could actively take part in labor by supporting me. We were both so thankful to have her as a constant, reassuring presence as hospital staff came in and out and changed shifts. We will forever be grateful for Heidi being our doula.

I wanted a doula because I was planning a natural birth and knew I’d need as much help as I could get. I chose Heidi because she is easily one of the most experienced doulas in the area, and also a big proponent of Evidence Based Birth (I had been listening to their podcast and loved it). I ended up being in labor for 36 hours - so glad I had Heidi’s support through the whole thing. By about hour 22, I called it and decided on an epidural. Heidi was knowledgeable about that as well, and supported my choice even though it was not the original plan. She was a trooper through the entire process - with me for over 24 hours! (Thankfully we all got to rest a bit after the epidural) She was an invaluable resource for both me and my husband throughout the whole thing, keeping us both calm. Thank you, Heidi!
- Emalie Lindsey
Heidi was amazing! I can't even describe what happened once I was in labor because you sort of go in to another dimension it feels.... but I felt full confidence and total trust with Heidi by my side.
- Evie
Heidi was amazing! I can't even describe what happened once I was in labor... It was an incredible experience and I wouldn't have done it any other way - Heidi is the only one I would choose for my labor.

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to enroll in a virtual evidence based birth course with Heidi due to the pandemic. Heidi was an excellent teacher; she was knowledgeable, engaging, flexible, and student-centered. Our classes were the perfect balance of instructive and interactive. We learned so much through the experience and felt about as prepared as we possibly could for the birth of our first child. Heidi was wonderfully supportive and we are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with her.

Heidi was our instructor in our Evidence Based Birth Course. At the time of our course, we were in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and all courses were online. Luckily for us, we could choose someone that was not close to us geographically (we are in IA and she is in TN). I scoured through several pages and profiles to find an instructor that I felt would guide us well. I know EBB has very qualified instructors, so I knew we would be in good hands regardless, but we got exceptional instruction with Heidi. I felt like we both could ask as many questions as necessary. I can speak for my husband as well that we felt beyond prepared for the labor and birth of our daughter. We are so grateful that we took the EBB course and landed an awesome instructor in Heidi!

My husband and I were excited to have our first "ours" baby, but had very different birth stories when it came to our existing children. It was important to us to get on the same page about expectations during delivery before we got there. I had an epidural before and wanted to go med-free this time, so I knew I needed extra support. Enter Heidi. I'd heard great reviews about her online, and we felt good and our choice from the first interview. She is bubbly and exudes confidence, which is wonderfully disarming when you're feeling vulnerable. Despite taking birth classes (also with Heidi), we would have been floundering in the delivery room without her experience. My labor progressed rapidly and I had no time to get out my references on massage and counter pressure. She directed my husband, too, which helped us feel connected in the moment. He said afterward that she was worth every penny and wouldn't have known what to do without her. My postpartum visit with Heidi was one of the highlights of the package. I was feeling lots of conflicting emotions, and felt that she honored them in a loving way. I have a good support system, but her experience went the extra mile in understanding how I felt and offering gentle guidance. In short, if we decide to have more kids, I can't imagine going it without Heidi.

Heidi is amazing. I was going to have home birth and had been having contractions for weeks, so, when the time came, I wasn't even sure if my contractions were "it" or not. She said she was coming over and encouraged me to call the midwife. I am so grateful that she did that. They arrived at 10, but my contractions were sort of "staying the same". Heidi helped me with different positions during contractions and we talked in between. It was great. After about 2 to 2 and half hours of walking around outside, they started to get tougher. At this point, we went inside and I start laboring in a warm bath around 12:30. Heidi was so supportive and called the midwives to come back. In the homestretch when it was really tough, Heidi helped me stay relaxed and helped with my breathing. I had my baby at 1:47. It was amazing, but I was still in a lot of pain afterward and Heidi was there with me and helped me feel loved and supported. She is truly an incredible person. If we have anymore kiddos, I will call Heidi to be a part of it. Thank you Heidi. <3 <3 <3

...Heidi's presence at our birth was just what we needed. She was able to take care of my wife's physical needs allowing me to be by her side to hold her hand.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 1 support person (my husband) would be allowed at the hospital during/after labor. This was my second child & during my 1st birth, I had my husband, mom, aunt, and sister all in the delivery room with me. I knew I would need the extra physical and mental support to get through another natural delivery. Doulas were allowed in addition to your one support person so I knew this was something I needed to highly consider. Best decision I could have made! I interviewed several Doulas before deciding to hire Heidi. Her disposition, calm spirit, experience, and knowledge seemed to be the perfect match for me. One of the best things about having Heidi was having her to text when I had questions or possible signs of labor. I felt very comfortable asking her advice and sharing what I was experiencing opposed to having to call my doctor. I knew she could talk me through those moments. I felt much comfort in knowing I would have someone to help me decide when would be the right time to go to the hospital. My husband and I both enjoyed Heidi coming to our house and showing us positions, moves, and exercises to help leading up to labor and during labor. I know my husband gained confidence after that meeting on ways to help and support me. I will without a doubt always recommend hiring a doula if my friends/family ask but specifically Heidi Duncan! I went into labor super quick and headed to the hospital shortly after. Heidi responded right away to my first sign of labor. Although there wasn't much time between my labor starting and arriving to the hospital, Heidi was there just minutes after we arrived to hospital. She was so helpful during labor offer physical support with massage and counter pressure. She gave position/movement suggestions. Honestly, just her attendance gave me so much peace of mind. She is so knowledgable and the best cheerleader! It is so easy to get exhausted and tired during labor but she kept me going!
- Maggie Edwards
Heidi was an incredible doula! She has a very positive and calming presence which was very welcomed on our birth journey! She was always quick to answer any questions or concerns and direct us to facts/figures to help us when we had concerns. Heidi felt like a best friend with a wealth of birthing experience and knowledge to help us through the process. We had a lot of highs and lows through my labor and I am so glad we had Heidi. She knew how to adapt to handle each challenge and was a saint when dealing with a cranky momma and a tired dad! Heidi will go above and beyond to meet your needs. I also appreciated her coming to my house to provide a more personal touch. She was by far the best decision we made in our birthing journey and I can't recommend her enough!

Heidi was an invaluable resource to my birthing journey... I would recommend Heidi a hundred times over!

Heidi is worth her weight in gold! (And then some because she is tiny;) lol! We haven’t even given birth yet but have benefitted SO much from the knowledge, wisdom, and hands-on training her prenatal visits and birthing class have provided. My fear has been mostly replaced with excitement about birthing my first baby and I credit so much of that to her. Totally recommend hiring her for both the class and her doula services based on what we have experienced thus far!
- Carli Smith
Heidi gave me the calm confidence I needed to get through a long labor... Best of all, her support continues even after the birth!
- Mary
This was my third baby, but my first time working with a doula... I highly recommend Heidi!
- Liz H
Over these nearly 4 months since our child was born, I've reflected on my birth experience and I know I wouldn't have had such a positive experience without Heidi's guidance and teaching! Your teaching was invaluable! One thing that sticks out in particular, is you saying an epidural is a tool. Throughout my pregnancy I was adament that I didn't want an epidural. But as I neared 12 hours of labor and falling asleep between contractions and countless times of turning down an epidural from the nurses. My husband and I had that "real talk" at the 12 hour mark and we decided that getting an epidural was my best option to avoid exhaustion and delivering a healthy happy baby girl.
- Kendyl Brooks
Heidi was very friendly, knowledgeable and comforting during my wife's pregnancy... We're thankful she was there to help us deliver our son.
- Jeff Hyde
I've always known I wanted to hire a doula to attend my first birth... I am so grateful and would definitely consider hiring her again.
- Elise
I was referred to Heidi through a connection from my Chiropractor. We met for coffee and immediately my husband and I knew that Heidi was going to be a great fit to help us achieve our childbirth goals.
- Ceth Stocchero
My birthing experience with Heidi was nothing short of magical. This was my second baby, but it had been 10 years. Heidi helped ease my contractions with different positions, counter pressure, and incredible words of encouragement.
- Magdalena Moore
From day one the experience and conversation with her was everything I needed (even if I didn't know it). Heidi was a blessing that I do not think I can put into words how thankful I am for her.
- Courtney Smith
Absolutely loved the evidence based class. I learned so much that I’m able to now take away and teach other families in the birth world.
- daisy schwenke
Wonderful, informative instructor! I use the skills I learned over and over, and I love how passionate Heidi is about evidence based information and practice in the birth world.
- Jessica McGilvray
My wife and I attended Heidi's 5-week course. Needless to say, my wife asked me several times about attending this class and I really never showed a lot of enthusiasm. But, after agreeing, I went in with an open mind. Truth of the matter, I never expected to learn 90% of what I learned when I finished this course. Here are a few things that we did; Open classroom discussion, listened to first hand experiences, watched videos, heard pros and cons of multiple scenarios, given handouts and guides, and talked to others that are in the same situation as we were in to name a few. When this course was over I was confident in my ability to be there for my wife through everything and have her be confident in my abilities. Many, many eye openers for me during this 5-week time frame. Guys, don't be negative about this, it is very educational and you will be glad you attended in the end. Heidi is a very experienced professional. Her knowledge in this field was very impressive. Thank you, Heidi, for the experience! My wife and I enjoyed it! ~Cameron and Erin Crouse
- Erin Crouse
I was late to the doula game- finding Heidi in my third trimester. Let me tell you....if you are on the fence about hiring a doula- DON'T BE! It is the best support you could have before, during, and after birth. Heidi was so respectful of what I wanted my birth to be and brought an immense doula bag full of knowledge to every interaction we had. I felt as prepared as I could be. Of course, things don't always go as planned during childbirth and when my birth plan went out the window Heidi was there for every step. It may not have been what I planned for or expected, but it was memorable and great. I owe that to Heidi!
- rebecca chick
One of the kindest people I've ever known. Places personal bias aside and truly advocates for mama. I appreciate that while she holds her own strong convictions, she does not allow that to bully or judge the mother of opinions clash. I got a henna tattoo done on my belly for a maternity shoot near the end of my pregnancy and even though I had an older (10yrs older!) child I was scared about the impending birth. Heidi prayed with me and lent me courage to seek out the birthing experience I deserved. She is a true asset to the birth community as a whole.
- Jeremiah Aleah Downey
Heidi did my henna belly painting party. We had so much fun and she was fabulous! Very kind and professional. She even took time to do a henna painting on the hand of each of my 10 kids. That takes patience! I would definitely hire her again.
- Bliss Birth
There were only a few contractions I remember having without Heidi as labor progressed, and through those I remember staring into my midwife's eyes and saying, "I. Need. Heidi." and to this day, I don't know what I would have done without her! Heidi is amazing in every way, and she was every bit of support, love, wisdom and reassurance that I needed throughout my birth. She supported me in so many ways my entire pregnancy, and when labor came she guided me through each contraction, every stage of labor, and advocated for me the entire way to ensure I had the birth I longed for. She has such a calming presence, and aided in creating the most peaceful atmosphere to bring my baby earth side. Her care and support is truly invaluable and I cannot imagine giving birth without her there in the future!
- Morgan Jones
Heidi was our Doula for my second daughters birth. I was trying for an unmedicated VBAC, which I was able to accomplish with her help. She involved my husband in every aspect, when we found something that worked she encouraged and handed the job to him. She helped him know what to do and be more relaxed. She encouraged me and was exactly what I needed for my healing second birth. She was very supportive post-pardum and helpful with advise. Heidi is worth her weight in gold. Both me and my husband recommend her 100%!
- Deanna Hume-Cheatwood
As a first time mom and with no family near me (military family) I was looking into classes and a possible doula. After looking up a few local people I found Heidi and knew she was the one. One of the best woman I've ever met. She is sweet and professional and completely there for you. So supportive of your decisions really works with you. I took classes and hired her as my doula. Best decision ever. I highly recommend her to anyone, first time parent or not.
- Jenna S.
Heidi was my doula and delivered my first child. She was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout my entire pregnancy. When it came time to deliver my baby girl, Heidi was quick to arrive, super supportive, and altogether invaluable. When my birth plan took a turn, she quickly and calmly explained my options and kept advocating for me through my entire time at the hospital. We adored her and loved every moment we worked with her! She is a treasure and she is truly passionate about birth, babies, and mothers.
- Jessica Tinnesz
I leaned on Heidi heavily during my last (and complicated) pregnancy and labor... even though we were almost 600 miles apart! Obviously I was unable to hire her as a doula (but trust me I would have!) but that didn't stop her from being my advocate and wise advisor. I truly believe that I would have ended up with a cs if it wasn't for her expertise. Heidi gave me the words and education (and confidence) to get trough the end of my pregnancy and birth.
- Jenna Angelo
We utilized the one on one birth class offered and it really helped both my husband and myself feel at ease going into a natural birth. Even if you don't intend on having a non medicated birth the birth class is a great learning opportunity for new and expecting moms and dads! Super recommend!
- victoria Holiday
Heidi was my doula for my second birth. I wanted a doula because we knew my husband would be deployed and I didn't have the birth experience I wanted with my first. I was hoping for a VBAC and was nervous about my doctor "letting" me try. Heidi armed me with all sorts of facts and figures so I could go into my doctor with knowledge about how a VBAC was right for me. Knowing someone was in my corner was very helpful. And I felt like even if my birth plan totally fell apart she would be there to help me and wouldn't push me into something I didn't want. Everything happened to turn out the way I wanted (except for my husband missing it) but it could have been otherwise and having Heidi in my corner was a huge help for peace of mind.
- Jennifer Boyd
Heidi was my doula for my breech birth that was ultimately a scheduled c-section. I was anxious and heartbroken to have a c-section (which was medically necessary because of a uterine abnormality keeping my son from entering the birth canal) but Heidi kept me calm for the hours before the surgery and remained with me for several hours afterwards to be sure I recovered with my sweet baby boy. She advocated for me several times and made sure my wishes were heard and met. I can't say enough. We were very glad to have her.
- Ashley N
Heidi is one of the most knowledgeable and caring doulas! She does not push opinions or stances on anyone, but instead is a fantastic source of information on all sides. She supports and helps moms (and dads!) learn, form their educated opinions, and supports those decisions during birth and beyond. You couldn't ask for a better doula or educator!
- V Henning
Heidi was a blessing during the birth of our second son. I WOULD SUGGEST HER TO ANYONE IN THE LOCAL AREA!! Given the negativity associated with military hospitals I was impressed with Heidi's experience with the Blanchfield medical staff and creating a positive environment and birth experience!! My husband is not comfortable when it comes to medical situations of any sort and Heidi was able to help keep my husband involved in ways he was comfortable while she provided the emotional and hands on support I needed to labor. Heidi provided great prenatal support giving me as much evidence based information she could on any issue that came up during my pregnancy. She has so many resources and has a solid knowledge base of all things related to birth. Heidi and I met for our initial meet and greet and our personalities just meshed so well. I knew she would be the Doula I chose as she was easy to talk with about anything and so knowledgeable. Heidi helped me prepare a strong birth plan that I was able to discuss with me provider in advance as well as meeting to go over labor positions. She met to provide me with the tools to cope with my labor pains as I wanted to go 100% natural. She had so many techniques to try I knew I would not run out of things to try when the big day came. THE BIG DAY.... I started with my active labor contractions in the middle of the night. I called Heidi at 2:30am to let her know this was the big moment we had been waiting for and discussed that I would like for her to meet me at my home so I could continue to labor as long as possible (which we had already planned in advance). When Heidi arrived she calmly entered into my home and stepped in immediately. She suggested different positions to tolerate the contractions and very much let me lead my labor. Once I decided it was time to go to the hospital Blanchfield Heidi met us there. When we arrived I was already 9cm dilated. I knew I would not have been able to stay at home that long without Heidi's presence. Once I had the urge to push Heidi was at my side the whole time and she suggested the hands and knees in bed position to push which was most comfortable. She was able to advocate for me to be able to push in this position as the midwives were not as on board with me pushing in this position. This was the hardest part of labor for me to get through and Heidi really stepped up keeping me positive with affirmations and letting me know this was the shortest part and I would be holding my son soon. My son was born after 10 mins of pushing 9lbs all natural no tearing. I know that this was only possible with Heidi present at our birth. Heidi stayed for about 2 hours after the birth to ensure my son was latching and to just rejoice that I was successful in my birth plan. She helped advocate to have the lights dimmed to make it a more calming environment for my son and I after delivery. Heidi came to do a postpartum visit 9 days after delivery which we discussed how I felt the birth went and how we were adjusting to a newborn. She and I chatted for a while about how grateful I was to have her at the birth and how pleased I was. I would recommend her to anyone within the local area! Not only was she helpful before and during labor but she was present after delivery to help with issues that arose with my sons breastfeeding and weight issues. She is so resourceful land was able to get me the information I needed to be successful with breastfeeding and other issues. She suggested different white noise links to help my son sleep which worked amazing. I was so nervous to deliver at BACH as they don’t have the best reputation for all natural delivers and typically create unnecessary interventions on births. I am pleased to say with Heidi's help I had a wonderful birth experience there.

My husband and I attended Heidi's one-day "crash course" birthing class- and it was so beneficial! She had specific data to cover, but also geared the class toward the level of experience, questions, and concerns of attendees. Very welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. While we did not choose to have the support of the doula for this birth (our first child) seeing now how much knowledge she has, how beneficial the extra support is, and knowing now how fast your own birth can "get away from you" and things begin to happen the you didn't prefer... if we are still in the area if there should be a child #2, I would hire Heidi in a heartbeat!! Highly recommend!
- Tracy Mann
I cannot put into words what a huge blessing Heidi was, and continues to be, for my family and me. During the pregnancy she was a source of constant knowledge and reassurance. During the labor, she was a calming presence with the wisdom and peace I needed as a first time mom when my birth plan was rapidly in shambles. She gave my husband the ability to enjoy the birth process and experience which has given him the ability to have an amazing bond with our daughter. We never once felt pressured, guilted, or felt belittled for our options and decisions. She simply provides all of the tools and resources for you to form opinions and is an excellent sounding board for your questions and concerns. My husband started out extremely skeptical, calling her a "witch doctor". By the end of labor, he leaned down and whispered in my ear "you were right about Heidi. She was worth her weight in gold." He continues to talk about how she needs to be there for all our future births and how impressed he was by her. She is simply the best!
- Christina Zegler
Heidi was my doula for my attempted VBAC. Based on our meetings, she and I were very clear about my goals and wishes for my birthing experience. She was incredible during the actual birth, really helping me work through decisions as each came along so that I could stick to my goals and adapt when I couldn't. When I was finally advised by my OB-GYN that the VBAC wasn't working and I would have to have a c-section after all, Heidi really was there to help me be at peace with the decision; she was never judgmental or pushy about natural birth. After my surgery, I had complications requiring an additional procedure, and in that moment, Heidi became our birth story hero, staying with me along with the medical staff through a very traumatic procedure while my husband held our baby. She stayed with me after that for an addition hour or two, beyond the usual amount of time she stays with new moms. Our post-partum meeting was beneficial as well, she made notes and heard things I didn't in the middle of everything, so I have a much clearer picture of what happened. My experience with Heidi makes me a firm believer in having a doula for birth and if you can hire her- DO IT!!
- Skye Brasher
Very good and interactive class! By the end of the day I felt fully prepared to deliver naturally and reaffirmed in my decision to deliver outside a hospital.

Heidi was my doula for the birth of my first baby this past May. My husband works a crazy schedule, so she came to our house and did prenatal classes and even did a beautiful henna session for me. She is so knowledgeable and is passionate about educating and impowering women to make informed decisions regarding birth. She was such a valuable resource of information before baby was born and was such a blessing to have during the birth of my son. Whatever I needed in that moment she provided, from counter pressure to encouragement to guidance... the list goes on. She not only provided support for me but also my husband and that took so much pressure off of him. I had a hard transition and there were points during labor were I doubted my ability to continue - but she was there to hold my hand and give me the encouragement that I needed. Her love and support were invaluable and if we ever have another child I want her by my side. Whether you plan on a natural birth, medicated birth, hospital birth, home birth, birth center birth- a dula is invaluable. She can provide you with evidence based information to help you make informed decisions about your care- so many people just go with whatever their OB says or suggests, but in actuality, there are usually many options to choose from. She is such a great source of knowledge from the different policies and procedures of hospitals and care centers in this area, to what the evidence says about certain interventions, etc.....the list goes on and on. During labor, most care providers aren't in the room constantly with you- but Heidi IS- she is with you every step of the way and can provide valuable support and insight. If you are thinking about getting a doula- DO IT! If you are thinking about using Heidi for a birth educator, or dula, or for a henna session..... DO IT!
- Britney Taylor
I am so glad I chose Heidi to work with me for my third birth. My first birth ended with a cesarean and my second birth was a vbac with forceps assist. My goal for my third birth was to have a natural delivery. Heidi struck the perfect balance between listening to me and encouraging me toward my goal while also hearing my doubts, helping me face my fears and giving me evidence-based information. She helped me figure out how to manage some really difficult sciatica pain around 36 wks. I had prodromal labor for a few days and she seemed to realize before even I did when my real labor actually started. She met us at Vanderbilt in the middle of the night and it was such a comfort to have her beside me, helping me through each contraction. She worked really well with the hospital midwives and staff. She used some essential oils at the exact right moment. She was right there to help and support me physically and emotionally during the pushing phase. In my past births I pushed for 3-4+ hours and I was so afraid it would happen like that again but was ecstatic when I pushed my baby out after pushing for only 30-40 min. Baby and I were both healthy and were able to go home after one day. It is such a special memory and I will always be glad that Heidi was there to help me achieve a beautiful vbac birth. Thanks, Heidi!!
- Christa Campbell
When I hired Heidi for the birth of my second child, I thought I was hiring someone for just the birth. But I got so much more! Heidi was a huge blessing for our lives! Rewind to the birth of my first child in 2013, I had a very traumatic csection and had severe post partum depression. When I got pregnant with my second child I knew I wanted to try for a vbac, but didn't realize how much fear and anxiety I still had in me from my first birthing experience. Heidi helped talk me through my traumatic experience and help me move forward. Heidi helped calm both my husband and my nerves with going forward with a vbac and experiencing labor for the first time. Heidi was there to answer my questions and concerns my whole pregnancy and never once made me feel as a burden or a bother to her. When the time came for labor it started very slow and over a couple of days, but when my labor kicked into full gear it was 1 in the morning, I called Heidi and she was there to talk me through until I was ready to head to the hospital. She met us at the hospital and never left my side. She helped reassure me when my mind would get ahead of me and my fears would take control. I unfortunately ended up in a repeat csection but it was no reason of hers, baby's heart wasn't handling labor anymore. Heidi was there to talk to my husband and I and reassure us that the csection was truly needed and wasn't being used as a easy way out for the doctor. Heidi was there in my room waiting for me when I was wheeled out of surgery and stayed for a while to help with my comfort and breastfeeding. She made sure I was good emotionally too before she left for the day, and then came back unexpectedly to me the next day to check on us. We are expecting our third child now and it was a not even a question for us on if we would hire Heidi again or not. I would highly recommend Heidi to everyone I know who's expecting in this area!
- Shira Stockard
Heidi did an amazing job, she helped me to have the birth experience I wanted. Without her I would not have had that encouragement and support in all stages of labour. I can highly recommend her doesn't matter if you decide to have a hospital assisted birth, birth center or home birth. She really is exeptional in what she does (counseling, massages, intervention). For example my baby decided to flip head up 2 weeks before the delivery she came with another Doula to my house and they helped with certain positions and gave useful advise what I can do, so that the baby can rotate head down. A few days later the baby turned head down;) without an external version. So many people go to a hospital to have the baby, I did not. The policies there (like monitoring, fixed positions like lying on back and no drinking of water etc...) are against a natural birth that I believe is in most cases possible. So I was not brace enough to have a home birth eighter so I decided to have a birth center delivery in Nashville. After arriving there the baby boy was born healthy and 8 ponds 3 ounces heavy only 3.5 hours later;) I was fit and had no complications at all I nursed him and we all could leave only 4 hours later. So not like in hospitals where you can't go outside with the baby for at least 24 hours.... for me it was worth everything. Thanks Heidi for all the confidence you had in me and all your support!!!
- Flotte Biene
If I could give 6 stars I would. Heidi is amazing. She was our doula for both our births... Please trust me. Heidi is the best and I wouldn't use anyone else.
