We cannot say enough wonderful things about Heidi and the role she played in bringing our sweet Mila into the world! Our story with Heidi actually began during a previous pregnancy that unfortunately did not work out. Heidi was incredibly kind and compassionate through that experience and refunded the money we had paid her. We told her that when we were lucky enough to become pregnant again, we would be back; and although it took us a while to get there, we kept that promise. Throughout my pregnancy with Mila, Heidi was informative, supportive, and involved. She held classes with us, came to our home several times, and truly took the time to get to know us. By delivery day, she felt like someone we knew and completely trusted. During labor, Heidi was incredible. I was especially nervous about the epidural, and she stayed right beside me, keeping me calm and reassuring me. She used different techniques, positions, and comfort measures to help relieve pain and stress, and when we were faced with decisions, having her there to help us understand our options was invaluable. One of the most meaningful moments for my husband came right after Mila was born. Heidi guided him to go be with Mila while she stayed with me. In such an overwhelming moment, he wouldn’t have known what to do otherwise. Because of her, he was able to be there for those first moments with our daughter while knowing I wasn’t alone. After everything it took for us to finally welcome Mila, having Heidi by our side made the experience even more special. We will always be grateful that she is part of Mila’s birth story and could not recommend her enough!

Hiring Doula Odessa was one of the best decisions we made. She helped me create a birth plan and shared evidence-based resources that made me feel informed and confident throughout pregnancy. As my due date approached, she was always available and supportive. When winter weather threatened her travel, she arranged a backup doula just in case, but thankfully it wasn’t needed—Odessa drove through difficult conditions to be there early that morning and stayed with us through labor and even after my C-section. She advocated for the birth experience I hoped for while also supporting my husband and me when doctors said an emergency C-section was necessary. Although my birth didn’t go as planned, I felt heard, cared for, and supported by Doula Odessa. She gave me confidence and strength during a difficult experience, and I’m so grateful to have had her by my side.

Nikki is an incredible doula, helping me achieve the birth experience of my dreams. Highly recommend! At 40, I became a first-time mom. As a later-in-life mom, all my childbearing friends have had kids before me, which means I’ve heard a lot about the many ways birth can go sideways. I hoped hiring a doula would help prevent some of the worst, especially as a “high risk pregnancy.” Nikki has a long list of qualifications and previous successes that made her the best candidate for the job. Nikki was a godsend who listened to my preferences, helped me build a birth plan, provided thoughtful information to help me prepare, and held my hand through labor. Her advice put me in a great frame of mind for my induction and her hands-on guidance helped me get through a largely unmedicated labor. She snapped a series of incredible pics as I pulled my son into the world. From start to finish, my whole experience with Nikki left me feeling empowered and powerful. I’m one of the few women in my life who’ve had a phenomenal birth experience, and I know it’s a huge credit to her. Thanks, Nikki <3

Hi, I’m Nikki Avila—Certified Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Cofounder of Three Moons Doula Collective. My work is rooted in the belief that birth is sacred, transformative, and deeply personal. As a Latina birth worker, I’ve spent the last 16 years walking alongside families during one of life’s most vulnerable and powerful seasons—offering care grounded in compassion, cultural wisdom, and advocacy. Three Moons Doula Collective is not just a training program—it’s a movement. A space where doulas of color rise in their power, find their voice, and reclaim the knowledge that lives in their lineage. Our mission is to ensure that Black, Indigenous, and Latino families have access to skilled, culturally conscious birth support—because our communities deserve nothing less. Birth work has always lived in my spirit. Even before I had the language for it, I was holding space for pregnant friends as a teenager—offering a supportive hand to hold and an open heart to listen. That calling was modeled by my mother, who was a constant presence of strength and care in our family and community. I learned early on that showing up for others is powerful—and that’s where my passion was born. In 2018, I began formal training with Doula Trainings International and went on to earn certifications through Cornerstone Doula Training in birth and postpartum care. In 2021, I became a Certified Hypnobabies Instructor and Hypno-Doula, offering tools for calm, confident birthing experiences rooted in the power of the mind-body connection. My continued education reflects a deep commitment to both evidence-based care and ancestral wisdom. In 2022, I began training with H.E.R.B.A.L. Doula. In 2023, I trained with La Mujer de Tierra in Ceremony of Birth, deepening my connection to traditional and ceremonial practices. In 2024, I trained in Spinning Babies® with Midwife Tema, expanding my knowledge of physiological birth and body-based support. In 2025, I continued my holistic path by training in Reiki for birth with Mitra, integrating energetic support into my care. From belly binding to energy work, my approach is holistic and intentional—honoring the entire person, not just the process. In 2019, I founded the Bakersfield Doula Circle to unite birth workers in sisterhood and solidarity through monthly gatherings where doulas come together to share, learn, and lead with collective wisdom. I actively collaborate with community partners like Save a Mom, Save a Family, Inc., and since 2024, I have been part of the Maternal Healthcare Committee in Kern County, contributing to local efforts that aim to improve maternal health outcomes and expand access to culturally responsive care. In May 2024, I traveled to Ecuador with Wombs of the World, where I had the honor of sitting under and learning from Parteras Mama Mila and Partera Martha, a powerful mother-daughter duo. Their teachings deepened my understanding of birth as sacred lineage, passed down through generations, and strengthened my commitment to honoring traditional wisdom in my work. In February 2026, I continued this journey in Mexico City and Oaxaca, Mexico, where I sat with and witnessed the work of traditional midwives and healers—Doña Queta, Partera Paula, Partera Yuu, Curandera Norma, Partera Rosa of Valenzuela, and Partera Mariela. These experiences further shaped my understanding of birth as ceremony, community, and ancestral remembrance. I am deeply grateful for the work and mission of Wombs of the World and for Charlotte’s leadership in creating these transformative spaces. In 2025, through Three Moons Doula Collective, we trained our first cohort of doulas—many of whom are now actively working with managed care plans, providing essential support to mothers throughout Kern County. As of 2026, my colleagues and I continue to expand this work by training Native American Indigenous birth workers, strengthening culturally rooted care within our communities. As a Certified VBAC Link Educator and Medi-Cal Doula, I’ve supported over 130 births, including more than 28 Medi-Cal births in 2024 alone. Each one is a powerful reminder of how informed, respectful care can transform outcomes and empower families. In June 2026, I will be releasing The Wisdom of Waiting Birth Method™, a childbirth education course designed to guide families back to trust, knowledge, and the innate power of birth. Through Three Moons Doula Collective, I’m committed to shifting the paradigm. This work is about more than teaching skills—it’s about nurturing leaders. Doulas who are deeply rooted in their culture, confident in their knowledge, and ready to create generational change. I hope every person who trains with us feels seen, held, and empowered—and that every birthing person they support feels the same. This is the legacy I’m building: one of advocacy, ancestral remembering, and powerful community care. We are creating a future where birth is safer, more just, and deeply sacred. I am here to support you, IN THE WAITING, Nikki Avila

The one thing I regret is not hiring Nikki earlier!! I reached out to her when I was 36 weeks pregnant and I am so lucky she was willing to take me on so late in my pregnancy. Nikki not only helped me prepare as best as I could in the short time frame we had before I gave birth, but she also connected me with the women in her team who were incredible resources as well. When it came to my L&D, Nikki was with me in the hospital for a complete 24 hours. She helped me navigate challenges to my birth preferences, consider tough decisions, and advocate for me when dealing with some difficult healthcare professionals. I truthfully think my birth experience would have taken a horrible turn if i did not have the support I received from Nikki. After I was released from the hospital, My son had difficulty with his latch, and i had a hard time with pumping. I shared my issues with Nikki, and she quickly put me in touch with her lactation consultant in her group, and they were able to counsel me that same day. I truthfully believe if it wasn't for this help, i would have given up on my breast feeding journey prematurely. Although I reached out to Nikki late only because i found out my insurance would cover a doula, My husband and I both have determined if we no longer could hire Nikki through our insurance, we would budget for her services if we decide to have another baby in the near future. Nikki is kind but also direct, gentle but also strong, informative but not condescending, and she is patient but not avoidant. She is sensitive to the needs of the individual client, and accepting to all walks of life.

We are so grateful for Stacey’s help. Our baby went from waking 7 times a night to sleeping through the night much faster than we ever expected. What stood out most was how personalized her approach was. Her recommendations were evidence based, but always tailored to our family’s needs and comfort level. As nervous first time parents, having Stacey check in with us nightly and help troubleshoot in real time made all the difference. We trusted her completely after working with her as our postpartum doula, and hiring her as our sleep consultant was one of the best decisions we made. Highly recommend!

I had an amazing experience with this doula service. As a first-time parent, my nerves were all over the place, but they were kind, patient, and very informative throughout the entire process. When my birth plan had to change last minute, they were incredibly accommodating and supportive. I truly appreciated their care and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a doula.

I began my career as a birth professional in 2013 as a registered nurse, specializing in Labor & Delivery. I am also a certified doula and home birth midwife. I have worked as a travel nurse in different states, which has allowed me to learn a variety of useful methods and introduce them where beneficial to my birthing moms. It has been my pleasure to work with families of diverse backgrounds, helping them welcome their new baby into the world and fulfill their best possible pregnancy & birth experience. I enjoy working with women who labor with or without epidurals assisting them with massage, positioning, and breathing techniques to achieve a calming labor experience. I have attended over 2,000 births including water birth and cesarean deliveries. I completed my training and certification as a birth and bereavement doula through both the DONA International and Stillbirthday (bereavement) programs. I have also obtained certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to assist women in their breastfeeding goals. As a Chocolate Milk Cafe facilitator I hold monthly meetings to provide Black women and their families with breastfeeding support and resources. I have received training as an Evidence Based Birth Instructor through Evidence Based Birth. Additionally, I have completed training to become a fertility and pregnancy and infant loss (PAIL) advocate. As a registered nurse I hold certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), AWOHNN Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate & Advanced), and Safe Sleep. My goal is to help educate mothers and families to be as prepared as possible for the childbirth experience and help them to adjust thereafter. I offer hands-on support, as well as help mom understand each step of the labor/birth process so she may better voice her desires to her provider (MD/CNM). I am very open and willing to answer mom/family questions and address any expressed concerns. Sharing the birthing process and miracle of life is my passion. I know that the birthing process can be very overwhelming and my focus is to help diminish any sense of fear and replace it with knowledge and empowerment. I highly recommend! Lydia is a midwife, experienced, and completely trustworthy midwife. She and her entire team do a fantastic job; they have been like my support system throughout my pregnancy and childbirth journey. I will definitely return to them in the future. My overall pregnancy birth and experience is happy and satisfied. I share my experience with my family and it has changed how they think about natural home birth. I came to Lydia at the beginning of my pregnancy and enjoyed everything about the whole process. All of the preparations we did with Lydia were important beginning to end. Having a midwife at the birth made me feel safe and more comfortable.

I initially struggled with my milk supply and breastfeeding form, and I’m so grateful for Chelsy and the work she does/her expertise. She was extremely thorough and took the time to do a full oral exam on my baby, where she identified a tongue tie that had been affecting a sustained latch. From there, she gave me the tools and techniques I needed to overcome that challenge. With her guidance, I was able to improve my baby’s latch, establish a strong milk supply, and ultimately breastfeed successfully without needing to supplement. She was knowledgeable, patient, responsive and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. I highly recommend her to any new parent.

Safety, support and compassion are the keys to healthy birthing. As a somatic birth practitioner with over 16 years of experience as a Full Spectrum Doula I am honored to hold this loving space for you and this beautiful gift you are bringing into the world.

Recent review

This is honestly a difficult review to write… not because there is any shortage of reasons to praise Cherish, but because no amount of it can truly do justice to explaining just how meaningful her presence was in my journey from pregnancy through childbirth. As a headstrong person intent on going about a “natural” birth within the healthcare system, I knew I wanted to have a doula to help campaign for me, to provide me support and tools through one of the most vulnerable and raw processes a woman can go through. I interviewed many doulas, and while many seemed qualified on paper, I just knew something was missing. Then as fate would have it, I came across Cherish. We had an initial call to discuss the variety of services she offered. Already then, speaking with her felt natural, like meeting someone who you knew could be a friend. It was easy to sense that she genuinely cared, and exuded passion (and compassion). We had meetings and check-ins throughout my pregnancy, to discuss logistics such as my birth plan, generalities like how I was feeling and how certain tests went, as well as address more spiritual matters like my feelings around becoming a mom or subconscious fears that were surfacing for me. Every time I was filled with awe and gratitude for the perfect alignment of her complete holistic support that I knew I had been seeking all along. To make matters more complicated, I went over my due date and with each passing day, my doctor (and the healthcare system) started to tout medical fear mongering to push me into an induction that I knew I did not want/need to do. After every check-up, Cherish and I would connect to logically discuss from a place of knowledge and trust. It was not simply “We are not inducing”, but rather “We are trusting all positive signs of the monitoring and taking an educated stance on it not being medically necessary at this time.” To make a long story short, at 41 weeks and 6 days I finally gave birth to the most perfect, healthy and beautiful baby girl. There was no epidural, no cascade of interventions, no “emergency c section”. If it were not for Cherish’s support, I have no doubt my story could have gone very differently. Instead, when I think about my labor, even with all the variables I could not control for (and that is childbirth at the end of the day), I feel like I had as perfect of an experience as I could have wished for. Not because it was without its share of complexity, but because I truly felt I was in the best hands. Cherish’s presence carried me through every minute of labor’s pain and challenges. I wanted my labor to be intimate with just my partner and myself, and having Cherish did not distract from that in any way. (She had also met my partner in advance of my labor to provide him with tools to help support me in the process.) I ultimately felt more comfortable with her presence in my delivery room than I would have been with my own family. She truly has a place in my heart for life, and there is no question that if I were to go through this process again, I would hope (and be so lucky!) for Cherish to again be by my side.

I am so grateful I found Anita as my doula. She responded quickly to my inquiry through insurance, which meant a lot because I was trying to secure a doula as soon as possible and learn more about the process. From the beginning, she made me feel at ease, calm, and truly understood. She listened to what I wanted for my birth experience and respected my preferences. During labor, Anita was incredibly responsive—always quick to answer texts and calls—and she arrived at the hospital right on time. She was professional, supportive, and fully present throughout the entire process. I had a natural birth, and the pain was intense, but Anita made a huge difference. She used techniques like applying pressure, guiding me into helpful positions, and placing cold towels on my forehead and chest to keep me comfortable. Her support helped me get through one of the most challenging moments of my life. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend Anita to anyone looking for a caring, attentive, and skilled doula.

Hey! I'm Nandi, and supporting families during their birthing journeys is not just my profession, it’s my calling. My passion for birth work stems from witnessing the strength and resilience of birthing people and my desire to create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered. I’ve had the honor of working as a doula in various settings, from hospitals like Wellstar to community-based programs like Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, home-births and birth centers. Each experience has deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, personalized care that honors each family’s unique story. Here’s what you can expect when we work together: - Connection: I take the time to get to know you and your family, so I can support your physical, emotional, and informational needs. - Advocacy: Whether it's navigating hospital policies or exploring comfort techniques, I ensure you feel confident and supported every step of the way. - Holistic Care: As a certified yoga instructor specializing in prenatal yoga, I incorporate movement and mindfulness to help you feel calm and prepared. One of my most meaningful experiences was supporting women in recovery through Motherhood Beyond Bars, where I saw how vital nurturing care and a nonjudgmental presence can be. That philosophy guides me every day. I am trained as a Full Spectrum and Abortion Doula, so I can support you through any reproductive health journey with respect and compassion. Birth is unpredictable, but my goal is always the same: to help you feel empowered, informed, and cared for, no matter what. If you’re looking for a doula who will listen deeply, support you fully, and celebrate your strength, I’d love to connect with you.

I truly cannot say enough amazing things about Nandi! 🤍 Although she was my backup doula and I didn’t get to have her throughout my entire pregnancy, I felt like I knew her instantly. From the moment we met, she made me feel so comfortable, supported, and cared for. I had a previous C-section and was praying for a VBAC with this pregnancy. With Nandi’s help, support, and encouragement, I was able to have the redemptive birth I had been praying for. After 12 hours of labor, we welcomed our sweet baby girl into the world—and we also had the sweetest surprise of finding out her gender at birth! 🥹🎀 Nandi exceeded every expectation I had. She made my entire birth experience so positive, peaceful, and special. I felt supported, encouraged, and reminded that I was capable, even during the hardest moments. She was such a blessing to me and my family, and I’m so thankful God placed her in our birth story 🩷

We interviewed a few doulas before choosing Damiana, and she immediately stood out as someone who really understood us and made us feel comfortable. She was warm, thoughtful, and even offered a reference, which was really helpful in making our decision. We started working with her about 2.5months before the birth, and she was incredibly supportive throughout. She met with us weekly, helped us put together a solid birth plan, and really took the time to make sure we felt emotionally ready (not just prepared for labor, but ready for the whole experience). Also, she met us at the hospital shortly after we arrived at the hospital when I went into labor and was incredibly supportive. It was our 1st birth, and having her there to guide both me and my husband through everything made a huge difference. She was so reassuring and helpful. I honestly can’t imagine doing it without her. So grateful to have had Damiana as part of our birth team. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful and truly supportive birth doula.

In May of 2022 my husband and I witnessed the birth of our second baby girl, at home in total bliss. My husband was involved in hands on appointments in our home, tailored to us where he got to learn about maternal health, how to support /affirm your partner during pregnancy—and he delivered our baby alongside Midwife Kim, confident with her guidance. Not only did Midwife Kim-deliver an outstanding beside manner, traveling to and from our home for detailed, hands on visits where we discussed healthy habits for the type of birth we have in mind, birthing options, birthing challenges etc but she also saved my life. Following my peaceful, serene water birth at our home-a 12 hour labor, I encountered an unforeseen medical emergency where Midwife Kim stood 10 toes down to ensure that I made it through. She acted swiftly to cover the basics and make sure I was comfortable, ensured our baby was well and then made a call to 911. Here is where her policy came into place-we can’t have a baby unless we can get you to hospital quickly if something happens. And it did. Her actions while awaiting the ambulance saved me from bleeding out, panicking and going into shock. It didn’t end there, her team cared for my family while I was away being cared for at the hospital post birth. She stayed with me through an uneasy procedure and became my advocate. I would not be here if it were not for the fierce compassion and the wisdom of Midwife Kimberly. I am grateful for her work and the knowledge she fed me as a mother and the ways she supported me post birth and into my postpartum period. She is a true pioneer in the birthing world and if you are medically able to-this is an experience you’ll definitely want to have.

I highly recommend Esther and her company. She exceeds expectations. She was compassionate, kind, caring, and extremely knowledgeable. Childbirth is a highly personal and important part of your life. Esther was right there for the family to support this precious journey. She was always available and connected us to others in the community, which was helpful. Fun facts 1. She graduated top of her class at a rigorous pre-medical program in high school 2. She also attend University of Miami on a scholarship 3. She is a mother of 4 very healthy boys 4. She speaks multiple languages 5. She has connections all throughout Miami Dade, which is helpful for a new mom 6. She's not just available before and during birth, she is available AFTER birth as well. 7. She has connections to midwives, physicians, and community leaders 8. She will support you throughout the entire birthing process. This is critical. 9. She is highly communicative - if you message her, you will get a response 10. She has a deep understanding of the human body given her background as a UM grad and high school medical program. She is a sweet and kind person as well. Her work has been featured throughout the country, and she is considered an expert in her field. She mentors other doulas and is a successful business woman, but she will still make you feel like a priority despite her busy schedule. You will never feel like a number. In your most intimate moment of life, you want someone who is there for you. Your child is your most important asset, do not leave it to chance. As I close this, I want to mention that Esther understands breastfeeding. Breastfeeding and pumping takes intention, strategy, and planning. Having a doula who is also a breastfeeding expert is extremely helpful and saves money down the line (no formula if that's your desire). As someone who is extremely discerning about services, I whole heartedly recommend Esther and you won't be disappointed.

"Most of us did not learn when we were young that our capacity to be self-loving would be shaped by the work we do and whether that work enhances our well-being." – bell hooks. This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my training to become a certified perinatal educator - meaning I can provide childbirth education, prenatal support, labor and delivery support, lactation support, and newborn care support. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born with my mother being hospitalized for 2 months postpartum from an avoidable mistake during an emergency c-section. I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.

Tricia was a helpful, knowledgeable face from the very first call we had with her during my pregnancy. She provided us with great resources through the pregnancy and was amazing during the labor process. A handful of things about my labor didn’t go the way I had wanted or had planned but having her by my side meant everything to both my husband and I. We felt safe having her by our side advocating for us and making sure I remained safe through the process of everything. We highly recommend Tricia and are so thankful for her impact during the pregnancy and birth.
