About me

Hi! My name is Joefin Peter. I am a certified sexual health educator & certifying reproductive-spectrum doula (labour/birth, postpartum, fertility, loss/abortion). When we say it takes a village to raise a child, we often forget that it actually takes a village to support new parents. I hope to be a part of your community! In my opinion, creating community starts with a "home away from home". I have a passion for supporting diasporic families, third-culture kids, and immigrants like myself. My specialty is blending science and cultural practices. Racialized individuals can feel isolated and helpless as a result of immigration, acculturation, and individualization. These feelings are then magnified when dealing with sexual & reproductive health. This is where I come in! I aim to be a reliable source of education, support, and comfort. I operate from a feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens.

Joefin was the backup doula provided at our birth as our contracted doula was unavailable. We met her on the day of our little one's birth. Prior to the birth, she was easily reached and professional in her communication. When she arrived during our labour, she was very personable and supportive, making it easy to work with her despite never having met her prior. I felt at ease with her presence. She also made good recommendations for moving labour along, but always provided me agency in whether or not I take those recommendations. I never felt pressured into doing something I wasn't comfortable with. Additionally, she was an excellent supporter for my partner who is very squeamish around blood. Both of us were very grateful to have her there during the labour and in the few hours after while we got settled. If I were to have another birth, it would be a no-brainer to have Joefin there again!

As first time parents, we were very impressed and grateful for Joefin’s vast experience and knowledge as a day doula. Her passion for all things babies shines through, and she used a lot of patience and curiosity to learn what our household and baby needed to thrive. She has a very bright energy and we always felt comfortable around Joefin and leaving our baby with her. She was also an excellent communicator and always showed up a few minutes early to get settled and see how we were doing. Thank you for being our baby’s first friend!
