About me

Julia Byrum is the founder and sole proprietor of Selah Birth Services. Here are a few fun facts about her. Julia and the love of her life, Benaiah just celebrated their first year of marriage. A graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, she majored in Music and Theology and minored in Family Science. She has a deep passion for worship and plans on incorporating that into her doula career. Julia loves spending time outdoors, exploring nature, and traveling to new places around the world. At home, she finds joy in the everyday: cooking, baking, decorating their new home, and keeping a warm, well-loved space. Above all, she loves and serves the Lord with her whole life, and counts herself deeply blessed to step into this new calling as a doula and childbirth educator. Selah Birth Services is a Christ-centered Doula and Childbirth Education business and ministry. Since she was a young girl Julia has had an interest and love for birth. She is now fulfilling her dream of being doula and bringing the Lord into her work. When choosing a name for her business, Julia landed on the word "Selah". Selah is a Biblical word which appears mostly in the Psalms and means, "to pause and reflect." In Scripture, this gives the reader a chance to contemplate what they just read. In worship, this allows space to be still and silent to listen intently to the Lord. And in labor, this applies to the break in between contractions; a chance to pause, a chance to breathe, a chance to rest in the presence of the Lord. Julia is not only equipped with the knowledge to be a professional and educated birth worker, but she also sees birth work as a ministry. She desires to bless and support families as they emerge into parenthood. Bringing life into this world is a gift from the Lord and Julia would be honored to support you in your journey.

Packages
Birth Doula
The Birth Doula Package includes two in-home prenatal sessions designed to prepare you and your partner for birth. These sessions will cover birth preparation, creating your birth preferences, and learning practical comfort and support techniques. In addition, you will be given an exclusive client workbook to help you mentally and physically prepare for labor. Your doula will be present throughout the entire birth, offering continual support to the mother, father, and care team. She provides a steady, calm presence in the room, attentive to the small but important details — handling them so everyone else can stay focused on their roles. She is constantly in tune with the mother's needs and will provide support in any avenue. After the birth, your doula will remain with you for up to two to three hours, helping you clean up, tidying the space, and offering nourishment, hydration, and comfort as needed. About a week later, she will conduct an in-home visit to check in on the mother's mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing, help process the birth experience, and bring a home-cooked, nourishing meal and snack.
