About Katherine

Hi! My name is Katherine (Kate), and I am a certified birth & postpartum doula primarily offering postpartum support. I have a Masters degree in Public Health with a focus Maternal and Child Health Services, and nearly a decade of experience in this work. I first became certified as a doula in 2020, and have since worked in various family serving roles in education, public health, and nonprofit. Through all of my experience, I got to uniquely understand the needs of families and the resources available, always striving towards building a pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting experience for all. When I welcomed my first child, I felt the impact of this work in a whole new way. My own experience seriously rocked my world, and I realized I needed to be back in doula work, directly supporting others going through this amazing and life-changing transformation. We weren’t meant to do this alone. And you don’t have to. I would love to support you during this time, and cheer you on as we figure this out.

Overnight postpartum support

Overnight support prioritizes getting you some much-needed rest. And that is truly priceless! While you rest and recover, I watch baby, bottle-feed, clean, sterilize, & deliver clean pump parts, and, if time permits, tidy up a bit to make your space more peaceful. If you are breastfeeding, I can bring baby right to you, and when you are done, you hand baby back and get back to snoozing! You wake up feeling ready to greet the day and your baby.

What to expect

I approach my work with an open heart and hands, ready to help however I can. For example, I often help with infant care and feeding (including bottle-feeding and lactation support), sibling support and integration, light meal prep, nervous system support, mental health check-ins, and birth story processing.

I met Kate during our doula training, and she immediately impressed me with her approach and communication style. When I became pregnant, I knew exactly who I wanted as my doula, and I was so thankful that Kate was available. She was working on her certification, but for some reason I didn't expect to be treated as a regular client. Kate knew better and showed her professionalism by setting up a meet-and-greet, asking questions that mattered, and providing a thorough, well-prepared agreement. As a doula, I had all the important-to-me birth preferences identified, and I didn't consider that I needed the same care as any first-time parent-to-be. Choosing Kate as my doula meant that I not only got the care that I needed, but that I got more than I expected for myself. Nothing goes exactly as planned during a birth. I had to adjust my plan based on my hospital and what my birth experience presented - no water births allowed and an epidural that made my desired birthing positions impossible. Kate was there to offer support through each adjustment and helped me navigate past ideals and through the birth experience I was living, but also helped my husband through his stress. She was calm, a soothing presence, and an advocate holding space for what I wanted and needed. Kate truly made a difference in my birth story, but her postpartum care also made a difference. Again, despite my training, I didn't expect to be a regular client; however, Kate was an excellent doula. She checked in and came by to make sure I was healing and that we were all adjusting to life as a family of three. I am so glad that I chose Kate as my doula. I wish she had been available for my second birth, but she set the bar for my second experience, and it was better as a result. Finding the right doula is an important part of your journey. If you match with Kate, I can promise that you will have the privilege of working with a truly excellent care provider.

Kate came into our lives just a week after our son was born with a genetic condition that required extra appointments and medication. We were exhausted and having Kate help us with some food prep and few nights of Doula services was a game changer. She was an exceptional cheerleader for us and helped us figure our systems that made our lives easier. I feel like we would not have made it through the first few weeks without her. Additionally, I loved chatting with her and hearing about her experience as a mom. I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who needs postpartum doula overnight support in the PNW!

Hiring Kate as my doula was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancies. After surviving a near death experience, every pregnancy that followed came with a lot of fear and uncertainty. As a Black woman, I also carried the very real concerns that so many of us have about Black maternal health and being heard in medical settings. I knew I needed someone who understood the weight I was carrying and who could advocate for me when I wasn't always in the best position to advocate for myself. Kate made me feel seen, heard, informed, and supported every step of the way. She had an incredible ability to explain what was happening, answer my questions, remind me of my options, and help me make decisions that felt right for me. Just knowing she was in the room gave me a level of peace that is hard to put into words. I never questioned whether she would speak up if something didn't feel right because she had already earned my trust long before labor began. She also helped my husband feel confident in how he could support me, which made the experience even more meaningful for both of us. Her presence allowed us to focus on welcoming our baby instead of navigating every unknown on our own. Birth is one of the most vulnerable experiences you'll ever have, and having Kate there made all the difference. She brought a calm confidence into the room that helped me stay grounded, and I always knew I had someone protecting my voice and honoring my wishes. Years later, I still tell expecting parents that hiring a doula is one of the best investments you can make. For me, Kate was more than a doula. She was an advocate, a steady presence, and someone who helped me feel safe during one of the most important experiences of my life. I will always be grateful for the care, wisdom, and compassion she gave our family. If you're considering working with Kate, I cannot recommend her enough.

Frequently asked questions

Am I ok with pets in the home?

I am very OK with pets being in your home. In fact, I used to be a professional pet-sitter back in the day. Just let me know if they have any behavioral issues I should be aware of. Bringing home a new baby can be challenging for many pets.

How do I know how much support I’ll need?

You might not, and that’s OK! Decision fatigue is real, especially when planning for birth and postpartum. I can offer some “starter” packages, and we can always talk about adding as needed.

What if I had a loss, am a surrogate carrier or had my baby via surrogate, am an adoptive parent, or my baby is in the NICU?

I would be honored to support you. I have experience supporting several of these situations and firmly believe you deserve postpartum support too.

Do you offer flexible packages?

Yes. I only take 1-2 clients at a time, in order to prioritize flexibility for my clients, as I know needs change!

Katherine's Daytime postpartum support package is $50 USD, per hour. Katherine lists 3 packages in all.
