I have been with my very supportive husband since 1999 and we just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. Our family loves going on new adventures. We do lots of things like hiking waterfalls, mining for gems and minerals, and we love seeing the world by cruising. As far as birth work, it has always been in my blood. As far back as I can remember I have been passionate about infant care, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and parenting. I am passionate about empowering birthing families to actively prepare for childbirth. Through my own experiences, I felt that there was a gap in labor support between healthcare professionals and labor partners. Many birthing people I have interacted with describe fear and apprehension as they approached their labor. Even more tragically, many birthing families have expressed disappointment or even trauma from a birth experience that felt poorly communicated, emergent, and out of their control. Part of my mandate is to know the limitations of the healthcare system and to educate families to advocate for their own birth using current and evidence-based information. Not knowing what you do not know can lead to overwhelming decisions and out-of-control situations. Hello there! My name is Jess Harrell and I am an RN, IBCLC in the northwest Georgia region. As an IBCLC I am experienced with both in-person, virtual, and telephone lactation consultations. A little about myself! My journey in healthcare started in the ER as a patient care tech, and I became an RN in 2010. Shortly after obtaining my RN I stepped into the world of Women's Health. I have practiced in multiple arenas of Women's Health such as: mother/baby, newborn admission and nursery, labor and delivery, OB-GYN office, and lactation consultation. My journey with breastfeeding was brought on when I faced my own personal struggles with breastfeeding my first baby. I struggled with postpartum depression during that time and I did not feel that I had enough support from personal relationships nor from clinical providers. Because of this experience I became very passionate about providing support to other breastfeeding families. I never another struggling family to feel that they do not have the support and resources to reach their breastfeeding goals! I am married and we have 2 children and 3 pups! I enjoy nature, crochet, and reading. I love working with breastfeeding families and being a source of support and camaraderie with my families. I look forward to working with you!
