Hello everyone! My name is Marissa Monteiro, and I am a trained birth doula proudly serving families throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. My passion for caring for others has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. With over seven years of experience in healthcare, my background includes working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medication Technician (CMT), and experience in surgical services, alongside training in phlebotomy and EKG. These experiences have allowed me to care for individuals from all walks of life during some of their most vulnerable moments. As the founder of Mama Rissa’s Birth Garden, I believe that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are more than medical experiences. They are deeply personal, emotional, and transformative journeys deserving of compassion, patience, education, and genuine support. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that every birthing person deserves to feel heard, respected, empowered, and actively involved in their own care. I strive to create a warm, judgment-free environment where families can ask questions, express their fears, celebrate their milestones, and navigate their experiences with confidence. As a woman of West African and Puerto Rican heritage, I also recognize the importance of culturally sensitive care, representation, and advocacy within maternal health. My goal is not to tell families how their birth experience should look, but to help them discover what feels right for them while providing continuous emotional, physical, and informational support. To me, being a doula is more than a profession. It's an opportunity to build meaningful connections, nurture families, and make sure no one feels alone during one of life's most significant transitions. My Basic Birth Doula Package provides compassionate, personalized support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. This package is designed to help expectant families feel informed, empowered, supported, and confident throughout their journey. What's Included: 🌿 3 Prenatal Visits — $300 Value Three personalized prenatal sessions ($100 each), typically lasting approximately one hour, with flexibility when additional time is needed. Sessions may include birth preferences, childbirth education, comfort measures, emotional preparation, advocacy, and preparing for labor and postpartum recovery. 🤍 Continuous Labor & Birth Support — $900 Value Dedicated physical, emotional, and informational support throughout labor and delivery. This includes comfort techniques, positioning assistance, encouragement, advocacy support, and helping maintain a calm, reassuring birthing environment. 🌸 3 Postpartum Visits — $300 Value Three personalized postpartum sessions ($100 each), typically lasting approximately one hour. Support may include emotional well-being, postpartum adjustment, newborn care education, feeding support, recovery guidance, and helping families navigate their transition into parenthood. Additional Benefits: • Complimentary initial consultation to discuss your needs, expectations, and determine whether we're a good fit. • Individualized, culturally sensitive, judgment-free care. • In-person and virtual visit options when appropriate. • Additional prenatal or postpartum sessions available for a separate fee. Do you offer virtual doula support?

Yes! Virtual support is available for consultations, prenatal education, birth preparation, emotional support, and postpartum check-ins when appropriate. I understand that every family's circumstances are different and strive to make support accessible and flexible.

Will you make decisions for me during labor and delivery?

No. My role is to support and empower you, not make decisions on your behalf. I provide education, emotional reassurance, comfort measures, and assistance communicating your preferences so you can make informed choices about your own birth experience.

When should I hire a birth doula?
