Location: San Diego, CA 92101, USA
Due date or baby's birthday: January 01, 2025
I plan on giving birth at Mary Birch hospital late December and am searching for a doula within the SHARP network. I have a high risk pregnancy due to my age (41) and gestational diabetes, and am preparing myself for what feels like an inevitable early induction/c-section and would like an advocate for that process. This is my first child and many of my friends have expressed how helpful it was to have a doula for the postpartum adjustment period. Because this service is covered by my health insurance, my budget is very flexible. |

Hello! We are expecting our second child, due date is September 19th, 2025. I plan to birth at UCSD Jacobs Hospital in La Jolla. My first child was born vaginally at 41w +1d. I had strong contractions the week from due date to delivery, but not close enough to time anything. My water broke right as I was going to bed, the night before we were scheduled to go in to be induced. As soon as my water broke I had really intense contractions and we arrived at the hospital within an hour of it breaking. I arrived 7cm dilated so it progressed quickly, pushing was 2+ hours long. I ended up having an episiotomy which I realize is apparently rare. I did not have an epidural with my first. The healing of my episiotomy came with complications which made for a tough postpartum, and I'm hoping to avoid this and excessive tearing with my second child. I'm looking for a doula to help be an advocate for me during labor and delivery, and then potentially someone to help with postpartum. Given there was no early laboring at home with my first, I'm concerned about getting to the hospital on time! I do have low platelets, so would like to deliver at a hospital should interventions need to be made given I am described as somewhat "high-risk". Thank you, Georgina |

Hi there! We are 26 weeks pregnant with our first and exploring if having a doula as part of our birth team is right for us. I’m on TRICARE Select and will be giving birth at Scripps Mercy in Hillcrest (we live in Ocean Beach). Dr. Bhoomi Brahmbhatt is my OB. My philosophy right now is that I’m reserving the right to change my mind about literally anything at any point in time and my priority is health and safety and me and baby. As of right now, I’d really love to avoid any kind of medical intervention unless medically necessary (no induction, no epidural, no forceps or vacuum, no c section). I really just want to be able to move around to get baby into an ideal birth position and listen to natural my urges and not be stuck on my back in bed. I think having a doula present will help us decide in the moment if an intervention really is necessary or if it’s still just an option. Ideally I’d like to have those conversations before anything becomes emergent so having someone around who’s seen it all would be really comforting. I want to go into labor spontaneously and would like to avoid pitocin if possible, but I’m open to pitocin for placenta delivery. I plan to have my husband, Jake, and mom, Suzette at the hospital with me. Intermittent monitoring and limited cervical checks is ideal, but I’m open to wireless monitoring. I do NOT want to labor or push on my back with feet in stirrups. This is important to me. I like the idea of delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin if possible. The standard newborn care with regards to vitamins/antibiotics is fine, but I’d like to delay the bath as well. I really want to breastfeed and would like as much guidance and support with that as possible. We’re still doing research so I’m open to having conversations on all of these topics to make the best decision for us. Ideally we’d like the doula to accept TRICARE so we can use the available benefits but we’re willing to pay out of pocket up to $2500 (negotiable). |
