Hi y’all, For those interested in using a doula for your next pregnancy I highly recommend Juanita Lewis-Jones. She offered prenatal, delivery, and postpartum support and has been an absolute blessing to my husband and I. Doulas provide emotional support and work along side the medical providers. Juanita attended my first delivery at BAMC, helped me understand my options, and allowed me to make critical decisions in the labor room when it was most needed. She has such a calming presence and I felt comfortable leaning on her for guidance and support. Juanita is retired military and is very familiar with our particular needs as we are here on military orders and do not have any family in the area. She met with us virtually which made our meetings so convenient for our busy schedules. I would recommend requesting a doula early in pregnancy as their services are well sought after; however, they give priority to military, teen moms, and low income families. We have Christian and Buddhist backgrounds. If you’d like to incorporate belief into your journey, she will accommodate the request, but won’t push any particular sect which was perfect for our bi-cultural family. I recommend to every pregnant mom I meet to allow a doula to be part of their birth story. Juanita made all the difference in our experience. We have a healthy baby girl and I have healed both mentally and physically more quickly than I ever thought possible and I full heartedly believe it was due to her influence and support. We are better prepared as parents and partners to each other moving forward. We do and will always love Juanita like a family member Sincerely, Erika & Alex Rattanatay

Howdy! I’m so glad you’re here! Birth and postpartum are some of the most vulnerable times in someone’s life and if we work together I’m likely going to see you naked to some degree, so it’s only fair you know about me too! I grew up in the Dallas area and have been in Austin since 2014. I came for college and south Austin has always been my home. I was a nanny for a family while I was working on my undergraduate degree in social work with minors in psychology and women & gender studies - they introduced me to what a doula was. I am one of the lucky people on this planet who has truly found their calling and can honestly say they love their job. I’m also a Licensed Social Worker in both Texas and Colorado and focused my studies in graduate school on perinatal mental health and mood disorders and the mind-body connection of somatic therapy. I believe the birth of a child, and rebirth of humans in the transition to becoming a parent, are sacred and beautiful experiences. Knowing birth is strenuous on the physical body as well as requiring an immense amount of mental strength, I bring in knowledge from regulating your central nervous system while still focusing on mind-body-soul-connection. Having a strong support to provide knowledge, hold space, and honor the process is key, and what I love most about birthwork. I am also passionate about the postpartum period to help families navigate the transitions of a new parental identity, preparing parent’s relationship for changes, caring for themselves, and setting up realistic expectations for what the future will bring. I come into the birthing space with no judgment, and am fully present for whatever decisions you make during this process. You can catch me around Austin climbing rocks, crocheting at Barton Springs, reading at West China Tea Company, and traveling with my partner, Haley, and our 2 dogs, Norman and Elio. I look forward to working in community with you!

At Rooted in Care, we believe families deserve honest information, steady support, and the space to make decisions that truly align with their values. We understand that navigating pregnancy and birth can feel complex, especially within healthcare systems that don’t always leave room for meaningful conversation or clarity. Our role as doulas is to walk alongside you with calm, knowledgeable support. We provide evidence-based information, emotional reassurance, and practical comfort so you feel confident in your choices—whether you are planning a hospital birth, navigating medical complexities, or exploring alternative care options. We believe in balance. Rooted in Care supports collaboration with medical providers while also centering your right to informed consent and respectful care. We don’t approach birth from fear or from blind trust, but from understanding—helping you feel grounded, prepared, and supported through each stage of the process. Families often choose Rooted in Care when they want a doula who listens closely, communicates clearly, and remains steady in moments that feel uncertain. We are committed to showing up with integrity, presence, and compassion before, during, and after birth. Rooted in Care offers a hybrid program to be more flexible to all moms, no matter where you live! A hybrid doula care program blends virtual support with in-person elements (where possible) to support moms through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period — especially useful for out-of-state moms who can’t have a doula physically present for all phases of care. Virtual (Online) Support This is done through: Video calls (Zoom/FaceTime) for education and planning Phone/text support for encouragement and questions Remote labor support where the doula coaches you and your support partner in real time during early labor Education sessions on pregnancy, birth plans, comfort measures, and postpartum topics Virtual doulas help with birth planning, emotional support, and postpartum adjustment through screens, messaging, and scheduled calls. In-Person Support (When Safe/Possible) In-person visits during and after birth Hands-on postpartum help if the doula travels or partners with local doulas (This depends on the provider’s location and travel policies.)
