About me

Hello. My name is Shanaée Walker, proud owner of Rooted in Birth located in the DMV area. I’m a certified birth and postpartum doula with specialized experience supporting twin pregnancies and families welcoming premature infants. I’m also a certified placenta encapsulation specialist and a trained newborn care specialist, offering comprehensive, evidence-based support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. As a military spouse and a mom of three, I understand the importance of adaptability, compassion, and strong support systems. My passion is walking alongside families during one of life’s most transformative seasons, providing calm, informed, and nurturing care every step of the way.

I offer full-spectrum, family-centered support including birth and postpartum doula services, twin and high-risk birth support, and specialized care for families with premature infants. My services also include placenta encapsulation and newborn care support, all designed to nurture, educate, and empower families during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period with compassionate, evidence-based care.

Birth Doula Services
In-Person Birth Doula Services include: • 2 prenatal visits, at your location, to get to know each other • Positions and tools to ease discomfort and help labor progress • Review of medical interventions, options, risks and benefits • Help writing a simple birth plan (if interested) • Unlimited support by phone, text or email upon hire • On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, starting at 37 weeks until birth • Continuous support during your labor into the immediate postpartum​ • Assistance with establishing breastfeeding, bottle feeding or both • 1 postpartum follow-up home visit, for processing labor experience

Postpartum Doula Services
Postpartum Support includes: • One prenatal visit of 1-2 hours to discuss your potential postpartum needs. • Availability by text in-between visits for questions about the postpartum period, breastfeeding & baby • Non-medical physical and emotional support • Breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding support • Helping you prioritize your postpartum healing • A listening ear as you process your birth and ease into parenting • Assistance with infant care, feeding, soothing and coping skills for new parents • Assistance with adjusting to new family roles, supervising other children • Household organization support: light meals, running brief errands, laundry, tidying and dish-washing • Referrals and resources to support groups, caregivers, etc.​​ ​Each visit is 4 hours and can be scheduled between 7:00am and 7:00pm. These visits must be conducted within the first 8 weeks home with baby.

Placenta Encapsulation
Our Placenta Encapsulation Package includes: • Personalized pickup and delivery • Professional preparation using the Traditional Chinese Method • Encapsulation in vegetarian capsules • A keepsake umbilical cord charm (optional) • Detailed usage and storage instructions Our Placenta Encapsulation Process: • Pickup placenta from birthing place within 48 hours - please be sure to properly store on ice or in a freezer away from food/drinks at 41 degrees F or less • Placenta is carefully inspected for infections and abnormalities - if placenta cannot be consumed, you will be fully refunded minus $50 for travel and inspection • Placenta is properly given a vinegar rinse, the umbilical cord is removed, it is steamed, sliced, dehydrated, pulsed to a fine powder, and then capsuled and packaged The average placenta makes about 100-200 pills depending on size.
