Hello. My name is Shanaée Walker, proud owner of Rooted in Birth located in the DMV area. I’m a certified birth and postpartum doula with specialized experience supporting twin pregnancies and families welcoming premature infants. I’m also a certified placenta encapsulation specialist and a trained newborn care specialist, offering comprehensive, evidence-based support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. As a military spouse and a mom of three, I understand the importance of adaptability, compassion, and strong support systems. My passion is walking alongside families during one of life’s most transformative seasons, providing calm, informed, and nurturing care every step of the way.

Postpartum Support includes: • One prenatal visit of 1-2 hours to discuss your potential postpartum needs. • Availability by text in-between visits for questions about the postpartum period, breastfeeding & baby • Non-medical physical and emotional support • Breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding support • Helping you prioritize your postpartum healing • A listening ear as you process your birth and ease into parenting • Assistance with infant care, feeding, soothing and coping skills for new parents • Assistance with adjusting to new family roles, supervising other children • Household organization support: light meals, running brief errands, laundry, tidying and dish-washing • Referrals and resources to support groups, caregivers, etc. Each visit is 4 hours and can be scheduled in 4 different shifts; 8:00am to 12:00pm, 10:00am to 2:00pm, 12:00pm to 4:00pm, 2:00pm to 6:00pm. These visits must be completed within the first eight weeks home with baby. Your doula maintains flexibility in their schedule to best accommodate the changing needs of your family. If it isn't possible for a doula to be at your birth or you already have enough support people in the the room, a remote birth doula is just what you need. The Remote Doula Package package includes: • Free phone (or in-person) consultation. • Unlimited support by phone, text or email upon hire. • Assistance with questions to ask your heath care provider. • Review of medical interventions, options, risks and benefits. • Positions and tools to ease discomfort and help labor progress. • Help writing a birth plan and emailed resources. • 24/7 availability via phone or text from 36 to 4 weeks postpartum. • Calls to discuss inevitable questions during fourth trimester. - Two Prenatal Phone or Video Calls - Birth Support Video Call - Two Postpartum Phone or Video Calls
I offer full-spectrum, family-centered support including birth and postpartum doula services, twin and high-risk birth support, and specialized care for families with premature infants. My services also include placenta encapsulation and newborn care support, all designed to nurture, educate, and empower families during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period with compassionate, evidence-based care.

Our experience with Shanaée was everything we were hoping for and more. She supported us before, during, and after birth. Before birth, she met with us to create our birth plan and to answer our burning questions as our due date neared. She followed our lead at every step And listened authentically, making sure that our birth plan felt like “ours” while also guiding us towards questions and topics we didn’t know to ask! When I was induced 3 weeks early, Shanaée brought a sense of calm and direction to navigating contractions with movement, counter pressure, and distraction (hello birth comb, my best friend) techniques. She worked seamlessly with our medical team, serving as amplification for my voice when needed (always following my lead and my wishes as they changed throughout my unexpected induction process). She even supported the first latch after birth! She came over the day after we returned from the hospital with postpartum support, a listening ear, and an extra set of hands to guide us in starting off on the right foot! I highly recommend Shanaée, she will forever be one of the main reasons I will look back on my birth experience and feel empowered rather than helpless, and brave rather than scared.
