About Sooo-z

This mother of 3 has experienced a lot and I'm here to support you as a birth doula. DONA Certified for Birth and Postpartum support, Certified Lactation Consulting, Certified Childbirth Educator, Reiki certified, Body Ready Method and Spinning Babies Trained for labor prep and comfort measures. As long as I have walked the earth, I have been perceived as a creative to the core, a visual artist, and a classical musician. My BFA in Fashion and Textile Design from FIT helped commit that identity but I was always attracted to helping people and understanding how the body works. A few years later, that curiosity challenged me to enroll in a course that was the complete opposite of what I had always been. I survived, flourished, and was 1 of 7 people to graduate from an intense 40 week program when I became a Certified Surgical Technologist. My graduation coincided with becoming pregnant 3 months later, and 9 months after that I graciously took on my next job, being a mommy! Along the way, I worked on my art, let my CST lapse, picked up my bass to occasionally play in orchestras, and had 2 more babies. My family was my focus but as children got older, I found more flexibility to explore the other facets of myself. I have had the luxury to develop my own body of fine art, play in an international orchestra, and discover the incredible gift of being a doula! My background as an artist and musician has taught me how to improvise and individualize every situation based on essential evidence-based ideals. My focus is to give each family a positive, special birth experience. I utilize professional resources, analogies, images, stories, and humor into our time together. My first support opportunities were with three very gracious young ladies at the Malta House. It was through their need for education that I learned how to teach about childbirth, their right to a beautiful birth experience taught me commitment, and their desire for unwavering companionship taught me how to support. I have since earned additional certifications in lactation consulting, childbirth education, and body preparedness for labor in order to better support women in the perinatal space. I am proud to support women in a variety of environments to help advocate for their desired birth!

For labor and birth support, I am in your ear and then by your side providing emotional inspiration, positional ideas, advocating, explaining, and keeping you in your intended headspace. Postpartum support begins at birth and includes a strong focus on breast/bottle feeding, overnight support, discussing new roles, partners, and keeping an eye on emotions.

Working with Soooz was an amazing experience. She was there to educate me on both pregnancy and labor and delivery. She was able to be a support person throughout my pregnancies, answering questions and making me feel confident and educated going into delivery. I worked with Soooz during both of my pregnancies and can say she was an integral part of my birth teams. She is kind, caring, empathetic and I would reccomend her to anyone looking to work with a doula.

If you are looking for a doula - stop and look no further, you've found the best! Sooo-z is one of the most special people I've ever met. The perfect blend of science, medical expertise, decades of experience, holistic wisdom, and the most generous, compassionate heart. Our first birth was 36 hours of difficult decisions and it was because of her presence that despite nothing going as planned I felt completely protected, empowered, knew what to try, and was able to clearly make the right choices for me so that the experience was a treasure. Her ability to communicate and advocate on our behalf with doctors and nurses was also invaluable. For our second birth, she showed up miraculously at the last moment in a miracle of generosity and again her talents, tools, and wise council gave me the confidence to easily make decisions that would have been so challenging otherwise. Sooo-z has shown our family so much love and compassion postpartum as well when unexpected events arose. She is a true angel that you will be so grateful you welcomed into your life, and she does it with authenticity, heart, and pizazz. Choose this upright base playing, claymation making, walking heart as your doula or for any baby needs. You will be so thankful you did. We are forever grateful.

Frequently asked questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a non-medical support person who educates, advocates, and motivates during the prenatal, labor and birthing, and                    postpartum stages.

When should I hire a doula?

A doula can be hired in the very beginning of pregnancy or late in the third trimester depending on your needs and thoughts. Most people hire me after the 20 week scan in the second trimester.

What makes you different from other doulas?

I have many years of experience raising my own 3 children and I apply the most current evidence-based research. I approach each birth as a unique experience and make each person feel like a special individual. I also welcome laughter!

How do you help the partner?

A partner can be one of the most essential constants so I teach them comfort measures and communication techniques to help during labor. Helping them feel involved and staying calm is part of what I do. If there is a sensitivity towards details, I try to honor that as well.

What if my birth plan changes?

Birth is unpredictable and we discuss alternative situations ahead of time to be prepared. While a birth vision helps organize your thoughts, focus on your priorities, and convey these elements to the supporting team, we can figure how to navigate a change up in order to reduce stress maintain ownership of your birth.
