What is a doula?

A doula is a member of the birth team, supporting expectant people and families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. That support is usually categorized as emotional, informational, and physical.

How do I find the right doula for me?

We often say that there is a doula for every family and it might not always be us! Bringing a human into the world can be an intense and vulnerable experience; finding the right support to accompany you on that path is important. It ultimately comes down to a personality fit. Does this doula make you feel safe and understood? Is this a person you might hang out with under different circumstances? What is important to you? Is that important to the doula?

Why hire a doula?

Evidence shows that unbiased support and continuity of care during pregnancy and birth improves positive outcomes and reduces the likelihood of interventions. No matter how or where someone will give birth, the presence of a doula benefits the birthing person and (if applicable) their partner.
