The cost of a night nanny in Ann Arbor, MI can be influenced by several factors:

  • Experience and Qualifications

Nannies with extensive experience, certifications (e.g., newborn care specialist), or specific training often charge higher rates.

  • Number of Babies

Caring for twins or multiples typically costs more than caring for a single baby due to the increased workload.

  • Hours and Duration

Rates may vary depending on the number of hours per night, the total number of nights required, and whether the arrangement is short-term or long-term.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities, such as bottle preparation, light housekeeping, or sleep training, can increase the cost.

  • Time of Year

Demand during peak times, like the holiday season, may drive prices higher.

  • Agency Fees

Hiring through an agency often includes placement fees or additional charges for their services, adding to the overall cost.

  • Overnight Rates vs. Hourly Rates

Some nannies charge a flat overnight rate, while others charge hourly, which can influence costs depending on the length of the shift.

When considering hiring a night nanny in Ann Arbor, MI, it's advisable to research and interview several night nannies to find one who aligns with your preferences, needs, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs. Greetings! My name is Christine Scarlett. I am a former pediatric nurse and now a certified birth, sibling, and postpartum doula. I am also a Certified Perinatal Patient Advocate, a Certified Lactation Counselor, Certified Educator of Infant Massage, and Gift Registry Advocate. Perhaps my best credential is being the mother of seven adult children and grandmother of many. I have had one cesarean, six VBAC’s, and sadly, one miscarriage. My personal experiences run the gamut of hospital, home, and waterbirth. I have many years of breastfeeding experience and do volunteer work in that field. I homeschooled for many years and still teach in a co-op one morning per week. Other specialties include cloth diapering, babywearing, healthy cooking, and even just laundry services. Contact me for a free interview to see if I can help you meet your unique goals.

We hired Chris Scarlett for the birth of our 7th baby. We were returning to the hospital after home births and I wanted to make sure there was someone who could advocate for my desires in a hospital setting. Chris was everything we could hope for and MORE! She is encyclopedic in her knowledge of birth, breastfeeding, hospital policy, and postpartum health (she is also a postpartum doula). I felt so confident asking her to help educate me on any topic. She came fully prepared to show me all the options available for a wide variety of birth plans. I felt totally free to develop my own birth plan and that she would advocate for my desires. She helped me as my due date approached know what kind of exercises and movements could help get my baby in position and provide relief from undesirable pregnancy symptoms. She helped keep me calm and focused on my desires for this birth when I went 9 days overdue! When I was in active labor, she came to my home and helped me get dressed, pack the car, time contractions etc. Once in the hospital, I was already in transition and almost non-verbal. Chris knew exactly what to do (parking, check-in, making the attending aware of my birth plan, preparing the birth room, preparing the hospital's stool, ball, CUB, bathtub). She is an incredibly clear communicator - firm, but respectful to hospital staff. She was with me and my husband in every contraction, letting him know how he could help me. She suggested position changes, made sure I had adequate hydration and nutrients. Once the baby was delivered, she helped protect my “Golden Hour” based on my desires, helped establish breastfeeding, get clean and changed, and stayed until we were settled in the recovery room. We both recommend her 100%!!!

Choosing a doula is about finding someone you feel safe with, supported by, and truly listened to. I believe every family deserves to feel respected, informed, and cared for during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. My goal is to create a calm, steady presence so parents can focus on welcoming their baby with confidence. I am a DONA Certified birth and postpartum doula, a Lactation Specialist, and VBAC certified. I also have training in techniques such as Spinning Babies, the Miles Circuit, and a variety of labor positions and comfort measures that can help support progress and reduce discomfort during labor. My role during birth is to help create a calm environment, offer practical comfort techniques, and support both the birthing person and their partner so they feel informed and empowered throughout the experience. After birth, my focus shifts to helping families rest, recover, and adjust to life with their new baby. Postpartum support can include newborn care guidance, feeding support, emotional encouragement, and helping parents find their rhythm during those early weeks. Every family is different, and I meet people where they are and support them in the ways that feel most helpful to them. I proudly accept Medicaid as well as private pay so that more families can access doula support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Supporting families during this time is truly meaningful work to me, and I feel honored to be invited into such an important moment in people’s lives. When I am not working with families, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and visiting the beach where I love collecting rocks along the shore.
