Azure Hurd

About me

Azure is a Southern California native with a deep commitment to supporting women and families through pregnancy and birth. Motivated by her belief in the blessing of every new life, she began her academic journey at UCLA with plans to become an OB/GYN. After graduation, she volunteered in labor and delivery units and worked in medical offices, where she gained valuable experience while also recognizing gaps in care — particularly for Black women. That realization led her to become a doula, where she supported her very first client through a successful vaginal birth after three cesareans. This experience deepened her commitment to advocacy and highlighted the need for care models that offer more informed and personalized support. Seeking to expand her knowledge and scope of care, Azure pursued midwifery. She is currently a third year student midwife at the National Midwifery Institute. She is committed to providing compassionate, informed, and culturally grounded care, and views birth as a transformative experience that deserves respect, intention, and support. Azure is especially passionate about honoring ancestral traditions in birth work, studying botanical medicine, and improving maternal health outcomes within her community. Outside of her studies, she mentors foster youth through Promises2Kids’ Guardian Scholars program. She also enjoys spending time with family, recharging at the beach, reading, and hiking.

Service introduction

As a student midwife apprenticing in a high volume birth center, I have much experience serving women in all stages pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I offer Childbirth education classes, placenta encapsulation, placenta prints and keepsakes, labor/birth support in home, hospital or birth center and Postpartum doula support
